- Here's what Halo Combat Evolved looked like on my old CRT TV. Recorded in 4K, 60 FPS with my Samsung Galaxy S20+. I plan on re-shooting this again in the future with a better camera and sound quality.
"GAME DEMOS"
When you wanted to break up the FPS action with a little Fusion Frenzy.
Nostalgia intensifies
The scanlines and amazing intricate contrast + motion detail all made the graphics of games from this era look soooo much better than they actually were... They tricked the brain into perceiving more subtle texture detail, more organic/higher-poly models, less jaggies, more shine, perception of more natural colours from blending, better shading, more image depth... All these things we took for granted and it's taken me years to finally realise. People were too distracted by the the higher resolution and sterile look of PC's & LCD's to realise what they really had...
It's 480i right?
4k 60fps is what I uploaded it as. As far as what was on the old TV, not sure.
@@LarryTanng ok i mean did you use composite , s video or component ?
@@rjameslower Used composite (red, white, and yellow cables). Also, the TV is a 27" (I think, or close to that), RCA brand, manufactured in 1999.
@@LarryTanng try svideo or component if is posible. it will be awesome!!
@@rjameslower is svideo on par with component quality wise?
PAL or NTSC?
NTSC
It looks better than the mcc
It is better! The OG Halo was never ported correctly!
@@redcat608 Oh... I didn't know that... but that makes sense!
@@pwnedd11 That information has been outdated for a little bit, they've massively fixed Halo in the MCC a lot of effects and graphics have been restored to match the OG Xbox look but that's for unremastered graphics
@@WednesdayMan yes but far to be perfect still
It’s because old games were designed for CRT tv so they just naturally look better on old tvs. On a modern hdmi set up it looks more plasticy if that makes any sense
The way it should be played
Wake up bro! It’s 2002!
Cell saga is on afterschool tv and a ridiculous amount of good movies, music and videogames are casually flooding the world!
Something about CRTs is that it felt like the game was actually taking place inside
