  • I thought it might be fun to show everyone what my husband thinks of some international snacks. While we have traveled quite a bit, and generally sample the local cuisine, we don't always get a chance to try snacks.
This box was purchased with my own money (not sponsored) from Universal Yums www.universalyu... which is a monthly international snack subscription box service. This particular box cost $25, but they also offer a smaller sized box for $13.

+Will Fitzpatrick Turkish delight that is actually sweet for starters. Vegan? Really? There was no Eti (the brand) in the box. No chips. None of the classic chocolate bars like Choconat etc. Torku is like the poor mans brand in Turkey and ironically the thing he liked the most is a rip off of Eti Cin. I could go on.

    • @CyrusBluebird

+Will Fitzpatrick my guess is they sent him the cheapest stuff instead of the popular good stuff, see also the UK box.

You are right about dryness of Turkish snacks, but there is a reason for that. You see, Turkish people are the number one tea consumers of the world. We drink tea with almost every snack. Apparently that shows in snacks we make too. We can't possibly notice dryness since we are always drinking tea :)

    • @needlessToo
      @needlessToo 8 лет назад +1

+Jokeritu Also you should try fresh halva at least once in your life. Even most Turkish people don't know how epic fresh halva is, but once you try it, the regular packaged stuff tastes like dirt.

+David Guerrero Marquez I think he's just not clean shaven. Usually he's more clean shaven and sporting a goatee. He might also have greyed some due to the stress of work and his health. As he's said, he has issues with anxiety. I'd say keep comments like that to a minimum since it is inevitable that he may eventually not look like his old self, and he's just trying to live life as best as he can. I don't think he'd want stuff like "Dude you look like shit" being said to him. It's sort of a reminder of the state of his health. Not saying you were being rude or anything.

the bit TB read on the pizza sticks i'm VERY confident was actually german. it sounded like "Knuspriges Snackgebäck mit Kräutern" which would be crunchy baked snack with herbs. Because we have a significant turkish population in germany, there are turkish snacks being made for the german market.

One thing that being part of this Universal Yums program for a year has taught me is that America has arguably the worst food in the world.
Everything here is additive-loaded, overly processed putrescence. And even with all that, snacks taste like pond scum compared to so many others these countries have to offer.

Just gonna ask this now, am I the only one who was going into this video expecting it to be 20 minutes of TB eating a turkey sandwich? Though I guess that humor would have been about as dry as a good chunk of the box.
I kid, but thanks to your videos of you two getting a good bit of enjoyment (and sometimes even John/TB's dismay), I've had a growing interest in this box service and may jump in to share this with my family.

the banana flavour on the wafers isn't necessarily "fake", its just like a banana that has gone almost extinct due to a deadly fungus, so we arnt used to it. the banana mention is called the gros michel, if you can ever find one, upon eating it you'll find it very similar and " artificial" tasting just like the banana flavoured pudding and candies. not exactly the same, but that's more or less why they taste so strange to us,its just not the normal banana flavour we are used to in the fruit.

These are cool videos..... this is my first foray into your TB tastes series.... I may order a couple of the items from Turkey.... And you save us the pain of trying the sesame cardboard crunch..... lol...
Can you tell me How you get all these snacks from the different countries?
Please reply and enlighten me as to how.... if you don't mind revealing your secret.
I wish the best to both of you Genna and Total Biscuit....
And your cat is quite articulate....... lol....

You really need to revisit Finland with a box entirely dedicated to that. I'd literally pay to see TB eat the truly awful Finnish "goods" like some extremely strong Salmiakki and the Turkish Pepper variations.

It would be cool to see an episode where you have the cats sample different kinds of fish and chicken in order to get their commentary.

Pretty certain the first package-thing he read wasn't turkish. Sounded very german to me. Which I wouldnt be surprised. A lot of products here in Austria/Germany are made in turkey.

The Turkish delight I got in my box was a mix. It came in a box, covered in sugar, wrapped in tissue paper. It had rose, lemon, nut, and mint. 4 cubes of each. It's weird that you got something so different :-/
