    I feel like snakehead fishing is Maryland’s equivalent to Burmese python hunting in Florida. We as humans are the only ones who can effectively take out these monster invasives and help out our buddies the native predators. Great tips! I’ll have to pick up some of the right gear and give it a try myself. I’ve only ever seen snakehead splash swim in front of me when fishing or kayaking, which makes me want to catch one even more!

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  Год назад +1

      It’s definitely similar. I don’t think Snakehead are having the degree of impact that Burmese Pythons are in FL, but it’s true that the largest snakehead have very few natural predators outside of humans. Perhaps only Blue Cats and Flathead cats.
      They’re a blast to catch though and taste great, so good luck on the water Nick 🎣

    These are excellent tips! To piggyback off of having the proper line, make sure your line doesn't have any nicks in it either. I found out the hard way after flying all the way to Thailand and losing my first giant snakehead due to broken line!

    After fishing hard for snakes on a Maryland river that’s loaded with grass I finally got one on a frog.
    Next month I’m moving my boat to an eastern shore creek that’s looks very promising in the back, tons of quiet shallow water with timber and reeds… but there is no submerged grasses. Should I switch from frogs to something else like a chatter bait or big Mepps?

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  2 месяца назад

      Frogs should still work fairly well around those reeds, especially around matted, floating reeds.
      I’d also add some subsurface swim frogs or chatterbaits to your arsenal.

      If you have the itch really bad and want to brave the cold and a possible skunk, hit the 2nd or 3rd day of a warming trend and target the afternoon 1-5 PM.
      Use 1-2 rods with large minnows 12”-30” under a float and fan cast a #3 or #4 Mepps spinner. No guarantee, but it’s your best shot for the winter.
      The best time though probably won’t be until mid-March depending on weather. Mid to late March is when the spring prespawn bite usually starts to heat up 👍

      The best time of year is debatable, but right now is a good time since the first spawn is wrapping up.
      I personally prefer April-May because this is often the prespawn period. I’ve had my best days during this period because the fish feed heavily in preparation for the spawn.
      That said, I’ve had some 🔥 days in July, August, and September.
