    Awesome vid brother! I understand the reasoning behind hiding your location. I don’t create any content but if I did I would do the same. Nothing against other snake hunters but I’m very limited to the spots I fish at and don’t want it crowded or pressured!

      @KambotroutFishing 4 часа назад

      Thanks David! I’d love to share my locations, but I’ve seen too many areas ruined by publicity on social media. I like to teach and help others, so my compromise has always been showing people how to do something or letting them know about online resources which they can use to find waters for themselves.

      @@KambotroutFishing agree! What you are doing is great! I’ve been a hunter since 2016, ETS back to Pennsylvania and I started hearing about the crazy fish in MD waters where I was doing my Drills! So I went and fished the area but never really targeted them, caught them usually by chance and luck lol Your videos have helped me so much in recognizing the patterns, cycles and techniques on how to catch them! So a big thank you for how you cater your videos to helping others not just catch snakes but educate as well! Hooah!

    Just out of curiosity, why are we releasing any of these back into the water. They are an invasive species that threaten native fish species and aquatic ecosystems, huge pain here in Maryland. At one point a handful of years ago, MD DNR was offering $50 Bass Pro Gift Cards for each one caught and killed, lol!

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing 17 часов назад

      Legal requirements on Snakehead vary by state, but in most cases, you’re allowed to release them immediately after catching them back into the waters in which you caught them. That’s the case in MD, DE, and VA (this was in MD). It’s usually only illegal to possess live snakehead or to transport live snakehead (which makes good sense in my opinion). I often harvest them, but it usually depends on whether or not I have room in the freezer or know someone who wants them. They’re the best tasting fish in freshwater and have an excellent meat to body ratio. They’re also easy to filet, so if I need meat or know someone who does, I’ll often keep them. With that said, I’ll release them if I don’t have a need to harvest. Many people take an issue with this because they’re labeled as an invasive species, and most fisheries managers do highly encourage their harvest. The peer-reviewed and published science thus far has not shown invasive impact. I’ve actually done an interview series with John Odenkirk, a VDGIF fisheries biologist, in which we review the most recent science and legal requirements on the species (link below if you’re interested). ruclips.net/video/lceYaOj8P9M/видео.html Still, invasive impact sometimes takes several decades to manifest, so if someone does harvest intensely, I understand their position. My personal opinion is that the degree of their impact will depend on the waters involved. In uniformly shallow waters with no established large predatory species (like Blackwater), they’ll likely have more of an impact (though I do think their impact is overblown and the snakehead scapegoated for our own impact). In deeper waters though, they’ll likely have less of an impact, especially when those deeper waters have large, established predatory fish. For me, they’re an admirable species, excellent parents, and incredible sportfish. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing День назад

      I love how these fish can wreck gear. For spawning, the science demonstrates two main peaks in spawning: May-June and Aug-Oct. That said, more study is needed and timelines will shift due to conditions, not calendars. My opinion: most fish spawn at most twice a year.

    I was hitting snakehead hard a few years ago at a spot by me. Had to move from Baltimore to Phillyfor girlfriends grad school and now I’m back two years later and a place where a dozen a day used to be the norm it’s been good to get more than one. This place sees a ton of pressure but it’s so convenient for me I’ve been too stubborn to move. Time to find a new spot but it all takes so much time it took me a lot to find years ago and now doing it again is both exciting but a pain. I’ve never explored the eastern side so using these sites now. I appreciate you putting all these tools together. I’ll be out paddling somewhere new come Monday. I have Mondays off work so it makes it a lot less crowded when I go at least. Thanks again bro it’s all appreciated.

      That’s a rod float. I’ve had snakehead knock my rods into the water more than once. One of these will keep it on the surface for you. That said, the straps on them wear out over time and your line will occasionally grab it those strap ends when that happens.

    I just had one break my line too. First time in 3 years of fishing for them, also first time with some new brand of line. Two breaks on that in the same day. I don’t know what was up. With the Bangkok hooker knot how often do you re-do them? I just started using that this last week and am wondering how much life it has generally

      I usually retire that not at least every other trip just out of precautionary measure. What new breed did you switch to? Also, have you checked your guides for any types of Knicks or abrasions? I’ve had those damaged guides havoc on my line before.

    Releasing invasive species, especially something as deadly to an ecosystem as a Snakehead? Interesting choice.
