Attorney Accused of Murdering Mom: Defendant Takes the Stand

  • “This monster took this dumbbell and proceeded to bludgeon my mother right in front of me…” Defendant Richard Merritt testified that two gunmen were responsible for her brutal murder of his mother, not him. The disgraced personal injury attorney is accused of beating and stabbing his mother to death.
Merritt was supposed to report to prison for cheating clients the day he allegedly killed his mom, jumped bail, and led police on a nationwide manhunt.

he's not even attempting a Mark Seivers, aka "the crying man", nor Anthony Todt, with his fake sniveling, nor the "traumatised" stuttering of Todd Kendhammer .. he doesn't waste time trying to act sad or effected - cos granted, that does take a bit of effort - but he's got it wrong thinking the jury wouldn't see right through him if he didn't put on a good theatrical performance . But this is a MINUS F in effort. But how no one in the courtroom is yelling out "are you SHITTING ME?" or bursting into fits of incredulous laughter, I'll never know.

I haven't been following this trial but he is too smug and matter-of-fact to think it was a good idea to take the stand in his own defense. I do not see the jury believing him, I'm having a hard time with his answers and I don't have any background knowledge that has undoubtedly been presented by the prosecution already.

This is just my own opinion but , if I were to be accused of something like this and I was absolutely Not Guilty, well I wouldn’t have took off running from law enforcement to the point that I am the suspect that there’s now a nationwide manhunt for. I don’t think I would have jumped bail for any reason and I don’t know but I feel like I would have stayed close and especially until I was removed from a list of suspects. I’m just thinking things like that don’t make you look all that innocent

What exactly happened when he was 3 years old. We need more details! It’s just too important! And then the jump from 3 to 5 years. What ALL happened when he was 4? Let’s concentrate on the crime. It’s totally unimportant, how the neighbors weht to bbq’s together and the kids had sleepovers. He is not looking one bit more sympathetic as well after this life story.
