Another equation to expression hack that can be very helpful, for example the 3x-y= 12, you can give x a value and y a value so that the equation can be true . Ex: x=4 and y=0, the next step is to replace x and y with the previous values on the fraction and you’ll have 2 power 12 as a result
Guys, for the first hack.. my sat tutor taught me that when you get those types of questions don’t do any math! If it says 3x-y=12 then the answer will be the one to the power of 12! Quick, easy, and simple.
I LOVE CAT TOES that might not work in all situations. I would be careful applying a rule like that as it seems a bit too specific. It works here but the SAT loves to throw curveballs
You are very helpful. I take my SAT tomorrow and I'm just getting my last minute review in. I can tell you try hard to help your students. Greatly appreciated!

1:31 LOL I had this question on my practice test the other day and I was like "I'm overthinking this so hard." As it turns out, I was really overthinking it.
Swear I took that practice test last week and got 19 wrong. I didn't know about the equation to solve it without thinking a lot, and the explanation a teacher gave me didn't make much sense. My mind has literally been blown I feel so stupid now lmbo
@@ahmadyassin1955 I think you didn't understand when she placed a 3 in a side. She placed it there because 3-4-5 is a pythagorean triplet Im just saying this because I hope I can make math easier for everyone else.
For the first question you showed us, question 13, you could have taken the expression (8^x)/(2^y) and simplified it such that (a^m)/(a^n) = a^(m-n). Since 2^3 = 8, substitute that value for all values of 8 in the expression. Finally, you get 2^(3x - y). Because 3x - y = 12, we know the final answer is A.
Ok, you're actually dumb. There's only going to be 2-3 trig questions on the SAT(very easy, not trig graphs and identities) and you're going to get this one confused?! smh
I'm so happy because i have never done an SAT in my life, but now when i need, i discover it's not too difficult how i imagined. Thanks! I intend in few months a brazilian guy like me could stay in a american university!
The first one has a much easier solution (which is mentioned for half a second on the video): Just make the bases the same FROM THE BEGINNING. So 8^x/2^x becomes 2^3x/2^y and then use the rule shown, so it becomes 2^(3x-y) and you can see that you have 3x-y=12, so the answer is 2¹²
You made example 1 so much more difficult and harder to understand then it had to be. On the SAT that would take 2-3 minutes tops, when you can get it done in 15 seconds.
uh for the question on 4:36, I'm a freshman rn but that transferred from a different educated school. Will we have questions like that on the SAT if I plan to take it this year?
For reference there is an exponent rule that says you can subtract exponents of two numbers with the same base that are being divided. Meaning if you have a^5/a^2, you can subtract 5-2 and get a^3 becuase a is the same base and they are being divided. Having the same base is important. You can’t subtract exponents in something like 3a^5/a^2 because 3a doesn’t equal a. On the same logic since the goal of the problem is to simplify the expression and find its value, we have to subtract the exponents. However, we can’t subtract exponents from 8^x/2^y because the bases aren’t the same. So we have to make the numerator and denominator have the same base. In this situation it’s good to know that 8=2^3. With that we now know that if we make 8, 2^3. Then the new base for the numerator is 2. We can’t forget the x though. So we have to place it back. Here’s how we’d do that. 8^x=(2^3)^x. Exponent rules allow us to multiply the exponent 3 and x. This would give us 3x as the exponent. So with the new base in place 8^x= 2^3x . This would allow us to subtract exponents of the numerator and denominator because now they have the same bases.
for someone who didnt understand the first question, consider x = 1, and make a solution set, so u get x = 1, y = -9, substitute 2^y with -9, then use the exponents rule which is 2 ^3x+9, we know x = 1 so we get 2^3+9 = 2^12
