I really love Ben Reilly. I had a couple of the clone saga issues when I was a kid and really loved it. Then again I was 8 and couldn’t tell a good story from a bad one. It wasn’t till recently that I found out people hated the clone saga. I have to say that Ben is my fav spider-man/scarlet spider. I just love his spider-man costume way more than peters. I even rep my boy Ben when I play ultimate marvel vs. capcom 3. There even is a video of me playing against Justin Wong in a tournament and we both pick spider-man and of course I was using the scarlet spider alt. Thanks for doing this video

Strangely enough, the first issue of any Spider-man comics I read and began collecting issues was where Ben was "revealed" to be the original and Peter "the clone"... My reaction was "Okay, so let's see where this goes." And I had no problems with the Clone Saga. Yes, it went on longer than it should have, but I was there for the ride through to the finish. I wish Ben had lived, though; I really liked his Scarlet Spider and Spider-man costumes.
It's sad it went so bad, because the first scarlet spider stories were pretty badass, I'd still recommend the exile returns and web of life, Ben vs Venom, the Grim Hunter and Kaine are something to remember
Scarlet Spider was actually my first introduction to the Spider-Man character in general even before the Fox Kids TV show. I first found out about it though a series of comics called the Cyber War Saga that my aunt bought for me where Ben Riley was the primary Spider-Man while Peter Parker was off with Mary Jane. It featured crazy villains like a Lady Doc Ock and some chick named Joystick. It was weird but I really enjoyed the series and since then the blue hoodie wearing Scarlet Spider has always been my favorite version of Spider-Man.
Ben Reilly remains my favorite Spider-Man version, including the costume design. I realy wished they kept him as the Spiderman. Stopped reading a few issues after his death. Only thing that might be interesting is Kaine as scarlet spider and spiderman 2099.
Agree it went way longer then it should it, however this is what made Ben Reilly a fan favorite, he's always teased with a return or something of that nature and it creates a hype. I have been a comic reader/collector since I was between the ages of ten and twelve. My mother was a Marvel and DC fanatic, and er comic were given to me in that time. I am 30 now, and my comic collection is absurd. I will have to go back and read them, but I remember thoroughly enjoying the original Scarlet Spider run from the 90's. Maybe at the younger age the over the top story arcs you mention went over my head. So now it's time to pull out the boxes, and revisit these stories! Great videos by the way!
yeah but what happen really to the art. Todd Mc farlane was and is still a fantastic artist. Now he left drawing for marvel to create Spawn. Which Stan lee supported him in doing.And I think we all can agree spawn did very well so Todd never ned to return to marvel for a artist job he had is own comic. Stan lee and Todd Mc Farlane remain friends to this day. after all this. ok so he left understandable i got it. But he what i don't get people that still work the marvel company like Andy kirby. (not Jack Kibby which was the co-creater of the X-men.) He's a fantastic artist i still look at his work in wonder like the cover of next generation. fantastic the marvel cards many of which where his drawings, also great. But then suddenly somewhere other artist picked up where the great master of marvel comic art left off and the drawing just went down the crapper. With big flush. This is some of the reason i think they went bankruped and lost may of it readers. (however recovered from it well by merging with Disney)Marvel art was a staple of the industry. It was truly one of kind art. When you saw the marvel logo stamp of approval on a comic you know you where holding something special to enter another world that was a escape from the frustrations of life. To a world with good and evil with unperfected heres which is a rare thing in comics. this made them more human and could relate to the feelings (like for example being different) this is where navel most of all stands out. Unlike a DC characters such as superman which was harder to relate to because he is a alien from a destroyed plant. So it was harder to relate to him. (Other then being a little different), that is unless your a alien that loses your parents on a destroyed planet, and wound up a elderly couples farm. now don't get me wrong Im not trying to rag on the DC world. i also read DC and enjoy many of there heroes and villains. And the sagas they put out. (Zero hour being a good one that involved the Whore DC Universe no jut ones indival comic issue like batman,superman,sleeper,ect. what have you,kind of like marvels Onslaught issues involving the Marvel universe.the X-men,spider man, the hulk, ect. and many others) i felt it was really inventive when the two companies did the cross over and had people vote on how they wanted to win the fights with the two worlds good and bad. (Then they mix the two worlds morphing the characters together creating a whole new world entertaining millions world wide. Now if you didn't like this or not, is not my point i thought the combination where interesting to say the lest. And being computerese in the same makes or both world to think of a story line and think of background in of the issue heres names and charter issues and backgrounds side stores the list goes on.you have to admit it was prety remarkable and inventive ) there the are was prety good i my self, my personal feelings of the whole thing was good. I didn't always agree with the fight issues out comes i though some of the other characters should of won, but all and all like it. but I'm need to get back on track. Basically the point i was making by bringing up DC, was that there art work for the DC comics have (detective comic incased you did't know believe it or not some avoid comic reads don't know that. Thank you for mentioning the MC2. I wish that in an MC2 story they brought Ben back, but in a different body. That would've been so cool seeing May's reaction to her uncle she never met, also part of the reason she was rescued (Kaine rescued her because he owed Ben Reilly went after who killed him, and found that they kidnapped May) so May kinda owes him. I also think it'd be cool as Peter compared her approach to web-swinging as his, both light hearted and enthusiastic. I would especially love to see his face when he learns (or knows) his "niece" wears his costume. Plus as Ben and Peter have the same memories it'd be cool to see how Ben would've reacted to his killers grandson being friends with May (Plus Reily Tyne's reaction, priceless or vice versa). I thought it'd be cool to share this idea with you all.

I am sure most people already know his origin and early story and a recap of the last several years would be more interesting

Ben Reilly is literally my favorite marvel character his story was poorly written sure ill admit that but hes always put the best interest of others, mainly peter before his own. hes got all of the tragic memories of peter in addition to his own and having to accept the face that he shouldn't even exist and only dose because of the most tragic thing to happen to peter but still mages to be a selfless hero
The Clone Saga was an exciting time to read Spider-Man, i never missed it as a kid. I reread it as an adult recently and it doesn't hold up like i'd like it to but i won't bash it.
I had every issue of the clove saga as a kid. I always enjoyed though parts was dry. But it made Ben/Scarlet-Spider one of my favorite s because I just loved that costume.
They need to add Ben's Scarlet Spider outfit in the ps4 game. Was super bummed it was Kaine when I found out, cause they did that one in previous games. Scarlet spider's hoodie could flow around in the wind. Damn that would be dope. Fav spider man suit, always has been.
I still over the Scarlet Spider. His fights with Venom and Kane in old 90's issues I would buy from the flea market are still probably the main reason I love Comics today. The execution of the Clone Saga maybe terrible, but looking through the comments, the impact it left on younger readers is still a worthy legacy.
Honestly, there are so many villains, they should make Spider-man a Netflix series. Some people might disagree, but I think the character development for all these villains plus peter's life needs way more time. Unless they can create the movies like they wrote the Harry Potter movies.

yeah his outfit was cool from all the other but they could have developed his character a little more. Even being a clone being just like peter soon clones develop there own personality. Example- think of Dolly the sheep they clone some years ago. One like budlite but the clone like regular budwiser. think of it like this everyone knows white eggs taste better then brown eggs. Both are high in colsteral and both can be cooked the same way but both are different even those both are eggs. So when you think about it Ben Riley and Peter Parker are just two different eggs...... Damn i'm hungry now... i got to go.
um...i actually liked Scarlet Spider. its a shame his clone story dragged on WAYYYY to long and the writters couldnt decide what to do... but essentially the character is still cool. he had alot of potential and delivered! but i guess some people just hated his guts. what a shame.

Arden DeMarco Spiderman in the 90s was Spiderman at it's absolute worst. I can also say the same for X-Men books.Matter of fact, the only storylines I liked from Marvel during the 90s was Peter David's Hulk, and Scott Lobdell's Uncanny X-men. Spiderman instantly became crap after Todd Mcfarlane and Eric Larsen left Marvel. Marvel ruined Captain America in the 90s also. Captain America's stock was at an all time low in the 90s mainly because the comic was garbage and that movie that came out in the 90s was even worse. Tamentonen Hageshi wow that costume sucks. I read maximum carnage and it drags on too long. I liked the premise in the first issue but you could play a drinking game with how often spiderman begs them not to kill carnage, who simply regenerates and kills more. And don't get me started on the hippy Rays to pacify him lol. I did like Firestar too. Carnage had good lines, even being a family man with shriek, Demogoblin and doppelgänger and his torturing of venom was insane. The LJN video game surprisingly did it justice even with its flaws of recycled characters matched the comic.
I hate how much people hate on Ben Reilly I mean really he has sacrificed him self to save spidey and destroy that cloning facility so cut him some slack guys seriously
Spiderman is my 2nd or 3rd favorite hero, depending on the day. Batman is my no1 then Wolverine and Spiderman interchange in my list alot but can't deny that after the 90s there ain't so much good Spiderman stories or even good Wolverine stories which makes me real sad. Back in the 90s, there are abundance of great Spidey and Wolverine archs. Spiderman and Xmen comics saved Marvel from bankruptcy.

TBH i really liked Scarlet Spider, i was sad back in the day when they killed him off, i liked his style more then Spidey's...

Just an idea, can you do a video about Hulk's more recent story (post-WWH)? Like Banner and Hulk becoming separate entities, reunion, Doc Green and Kluh? I am sure most people already know his origin and early story and a recap of the last several years would be more interesting

Ben Reilly is literally my favorite marvel character his story was poorly written sure ill admit that but hes always put the best interest of others, mainly peter before his own. hes got all of the tragic memories of peter in addition to his own and having to accept the face that he shouldn't even exist and only dose because of the most tragic thing to happen to peter but still mages to be a selfless hero

The Clone Saga was an exciting time to read Spider-Man, i never missed it as a kid. I reread it as an adult recently and it doesn't hold up like i'd like it to but i won't bash it.

I still over the Scarlet Spider. His fights with Venom and Kane in old 90's issues I would buy from the flea market are still probably the main reason I love Comics today. The execution of the Clone Saga maybe terrible, but looking through the comments, the impact it left on younger readers is still a worthy legacy.

Honestly, there are so many villains, they should make Spider-man a Netflix series. Some people might disagree, but I think the character development for all these villains plus peter's life needs way more time. Unless they can create the movies like they wrote the Harry Potter movies.

All of Ben Reilly has been told. I am happy. Wish we knew about the MC2 Ben Reilly.. is he alive? Or did Morlun visit him first then Kaine? At last, I can say he is a good character and very unique. So far, the only place he didn't die is in the animated series.

yeah his outfit was cool from all the other but they could have developed his character a little more. Even being a clone being just like peter soon clones develop there own personality. Example- think of Dolly the sheep they clone some years ago. One like budlite but the clone like regular budwiser. think of it like this everyone knows white eggs taste better then brown eggs. Both are high in colsteral and both can be cooked the same way but both are different even those both are eggs. So when you think about it Ben Riley and Peter Parker are just two different eggs...... Damn i'm hungry now... i got to go.

um...i actually liked Scarlet Spider. its a shame his clone story dragged on WAYYYY to long and the writters couldnt decide what to do... but essentially the character is still cool. he had alot of potential and delivered! but i guess some people just hated his guts. what a shame.

I can also say the same for X-Men books.Matter of fact, the only storylines I liked from Marvel during the 90s was Peter David's Hulk, and Scott Lobdell's Uncanny X-men. Spiderman instantly became crap after Todd Mcfarlane and Eric Larsen left Marvel. Marvel ruined Captain America in the 90s also. Captain America's stock was at an all time low in the 90s mainly because the comic was garbage and that movie that came out in the 90s was even worse. Tamentonen Hageshi wow that costume sucks. I read maximum carnage and it drags on too long. I liked the premise in the first issue but you could play a drinking game with how often spiderman begs them not to kill carnage, who simply regenerates and kills more. And don't get me started on the hippy Rays to pacify him lol. I did like Firestar too.
Carnage had good lines, even being a family man with shriek, Demogoblin and doppelgänger and his torturing of venom was insane. The LJN video game surprisingly did it justice even with its flaws of recycled characters matched the comic.

Spiderman is my 2nd or 3rd favorite hero, depending on the day. Batman is my no1 then Wolverine and Spiderman interchange in my list alot but can't deny that after the 90s there ain't so much good Spiderman stories or even good Wolverine stories which makes me real sad. Back in the 90s, there are abundance of great Spidey and Wolverine archs. Spiderman and Xmen comics saved Marvel from bankruptcy.
