I wouldn't classify 6 weeks of training as "training" more like a quick summary course of what the job pertains before kicking you out the door and expecting you to fill in the blanks later down the road.
A cop stopped me for a speeding ticket when coming down from an overpass (radars dont work well at an angle). First question was "Do you know how fast you were going?" Any number I say could be used against me so I said "Dont know. I was driving the flow of traffic" In California you cant be given a ticket if you are driving flow of traffic. Cop still gave me a ticket for a 65 in a 55. Now this was an expressway which had been recently widened, repaired and recarpeted and after the improvement all traffic was traveling faster than 55. So I went to the court and requested a traffic survey in writing. In California after an Highway is modified in a significant manner, the city needs to do a traffic survey to set a new legal safe speed for the road. The city did not respond. On the day of traffic court I told the judge I had asked for a traffic survey and the city had not responded. Case thrown out.

I'm a retired LEO. My field training officer taught me on the first day to NOT ask the violator if they knew why they were stopped. That is unprofessional. I was taught, and agree, that you approach the violator and greet them, then tell them why they were stopped, request their drivers license and insurance card, explain that they are getting cited or a warning, and then go back and write the paper. Also, you could ask why they were doing what they were doing and possibly let them go if the reason made sense. I felt my job was not to screw with the public, but to keep everyone safe.
Reasonable! I was stopped because I went through the light entering the freeway. She said it was red but I swore it was not even on. She said it was. I said I am so sorry and she let me go. To this day I really believe it wasnt on but I am glad she just gave me a warning. I noticed that recently they have a yellow flashing light first so that is helpful
LOL, oh very good. That has always angered me. Where are you going? Where have you been??? How about: hey officer, where have you been? Where are YOU going???
"Do you know why I pulled you over?" That question is now illegal in California - The officer must state the reason for the traffic stop before asking any questions.
'Bout time. The time for positive evidence of proof of reasonable stop rather than fishing is at hand. Having the reason for the stop up front means they can't manufacture it later.
Okay, an officer of the law can make false statements to you without penalty, but making false statements to an officer of the law will land you in jail! What's wrong with this picture?
I think that's not too good. There is no reason for a police officer to lie to the public. There are truthful methods for police to get the truth out of us. If necessary. It should be pretty cut-and-dry if they clocked us going over the speed limit they should write us out the ticket and be done with it. Just keep in mind if the conditions of the road were foul then the officer can ticket you on their own discretion even if you were going the speed limit or below it. If you were going 2 fast for the conditions of the road they have it within their power to do so.
On a viral video, a Woman answered the door for a cop and her panic alarms ran off in her head as she realized she was being interrogated(Cop has been told she broke into this house) She said something like,"I don't want to answer any questions. I'm closing the door. She tried to close the door but the Cop put his foot in the door to prevent her from closing the door. She recorded the entire transaction saying something like,"You're harassing me and making me uncomfortable. I want you to get your foot out of my doorway and leave. IIRC, she filed a lawsuit against this Officer. 🤔💡
That’s why people no longer have fences in their front yards. Cities worked at the behest of the police to make city ordinances banning them because it prevents police officers from approaching your house

@ToadieBog Idk where you live, but in my state, it IS illegal to lie to the police. That's the problem. People want it to go both ways Edit for clarity: People just want it to be illegal for police to lie if it's illegal for you to lie Also to add, Florida Statutes 837.055 and 837.005 regard reporting false crimes, providing false information to an officer, and lying during an investigation. Now, tbf, they have to prove you knowingly gave the wrong info and weren't simply mistaken, but it still means you can't lie to the police
RIGHT!! Police should be required to reveal that they are Police if they are asked if they are Police before selling them drugs, stolen stuff, or soliciting them.😂😂😂😂
@@jl8617 I think you're missing the point. Stopping someone that is suspected of a higher crime isn't the same as stopping someone driving safely that just happens to be going A LITTLE faster than the posted speed limit. I'm talking going 65 in a 55, not going 80 in a 40.

This is because the police do not belong to the public any more. Under George W. Bush as POTUS #43, in 2010, the police were purchased by the Heritage Foundation, a private, right-wing organization, dba the Department of Homeland Security. Their official title is no longer Police, rather it is Task Officer. They are salaried by the federal government but owned and managed by the Heritage Foundation. They are not tasked with protecting and serving We, the People. They are tasked with guarding and protecting the interests of the oligarchy. (This is why they ask you for your car insurance. They are making sure you are paying to make the rich richer because any accident claims by you result in higher premiums.) As any insurance company will tell you, they are not in the business of giving money away. They are in the business of making a profit (and they accomplish this by denying claims, and charging you ever increasing premiums.) Hitler was the first to have a Department of Homeland Security. This is where the Heritage Foundation and George W. Bush got it from. Hitler's DHS was also known as The Schutzstaffel aka The SS, and Gestapo.

A few years ago I stopped to rescue a tame cat that ran in front of my car, on a quiet street around midnight. I put the cat in the car and was trying to look up if the cat had been posted as missing. I was debating with myself that I could take the cat home and call the vet and animal control etc in the morning when the cops drove up and asked why I was pulled over . I told them the truth( my mistake) They told me I had no right to take the cat because it was someone’s “property” but they said they wanted me just to let it go on the street, where it could be hit by a car. I said no to that and pointed out the absurdity of their demand. They threatened to arrest me ( that was their lie). I knew they had no valid reason to arrest me. It was an amusing standoff between 2 young guy officers who didn’t want to have their authority questioned by a frumpy middle aged woman who was trying to save a cat at midnight. They knew they were wrong but didn’t want to admit it. They finally called their supervisor who came and said he would keep the cat in the station until morning then hand it over to animal control, ( I followed up, they did that). What a waste of time and energy while real crimes may be going on. They just don’t like to admit they are wrong. I should have told them I pulled over because I was having a sneezing attack or something. It is amusing in retrospect but also a bit scary how they try to throw their authority around.

I said i would have to have proof of that and he took me back to his car, to show me, but his radar was showing zero... He said he must have cleared the reading when he got out and let me go with a warning. Jerk liar...
I was pulled over in Lake Oswego, Oregon a year ago- was asked if I knew why he pulled me over. I did nothing wrong- and he pulled me over where we were blocking traffic. If I continued forward, the options for pulling over were non-existent, and was afraid he’d think I was evading. I told him I had no idea why he pulled me over. He said I ran a red light a couple lights back, which wasn’t true- not at all! There are 3 lights in 3 short blocks downtown where I was. Each light I was with the flow of traffic, absolutely did not run a red light. It felt like I was in the twilight zone- then I knew he was gaslighting me. I was so angry, still am. I went to city hall to ask for a video from the traffic lights of me running any red light. They said I’d have to file with the police etc, I got tired of trying so gave up and paid. I know, I should have insisted as it’s pure extortion. What a racket.
I once was driving to pick up a friend at 2 am on a super icy night. Going 5-10mph in a 35 zone I had a traffic light turn yellow on me after I had already entered the intersection. It turned red as I reached the other side of the intersection and a cop pulled me over for "running a red light" The judge literally told me that it didn't matter that I was already in intersection when the light turned yellow, I wasn't clear of the other side before it turned red so I "ran a red" and I had to pay $200. Pure corruption. They are basicslly thugs extorting money from the public by writing bogus tickets.
@@randomjoe3941- Yep! Get this: about 18 years ago I was driving in Beaverton (SW of Portland) when I found myself entering the intersection as the light turned yellow. I wasn’t worried til I saw it almost immediately turn red and a flash from the automated camera on the sidewalk. Went to court to tell the judge the light went to red in a very unusual short amount of time: he just laughed. I paid the ticket. 3 yeats later I read in the paper that same light on Allen & Lombard was deemed faulty for turning red too fast. I called the court office to see if they’d refund me for the error, maybe reimburse my auto insurance that went up- of course they said no. It is one corrupt racket.
So this is my take. I got stopped by a cop one day for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. He asked me: do you know why I stopped you? I said: I think I did a poor job on that stop sign. He smiled and said: correct. I was on my motorcycle at the time. He told me he was a bike rider too and suggested I try harder to make a complete stop next time. He knew I was not in a Heavily traveled area. He gave me a warning and I thanked him. It’s not always a mean exchange. Generally the cops in Canada aren’t always mean. They do try to balance their work with measurable latitude.
Don't listen to this guy so closely, there are certain things law enforcement can't lie to you about. They are also a lot more restricted than people know. Cops can't go digging through pockets or manipulate an object in clothing when patting down for safety but aren't arrested a person. If they do, any incriminating evidence can be thrown out. Fruit of the poisonous tree is the term that describes evidence gathered from or related to illegally gathering of evidence which then makes the subsequent evidence inadmissable in court. Cops also need probable cause or reasonable articulable suspicion for many things such as stop, search, and seizures. I would definitely recommend taking some criminal justice classes to understand what cops can and can't do. Educating oneself is definitely the best option in staying safe and knowing when your amendment rights have been violated as well as when a lawsuit is potentially possible.

This very straight forward explanation without this attorney pitching his law firm is why I’m now a subscriber. No, a verdict of not guilty is not the same as innocent. Saying someone is innocent is an affirmation that they didn't commit a crime while a verdict of not guilty means that the evidence presented doesn't allow the jury or judge to conclude beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. Source- Google 🤷🏻♂️
Because you can plead not guilty even if you did the thing. It just puts the onus on the prosecution to prove it. This is not truly the same as being innocent, and the law doesn't make a distinction. Guilty plea means 'you got me and no trial is really necessary' (though the courts have to beware false guilty pleas to cover for someone else)
I'm pretty sure Innocent means you ACTUALLY didn't do the crime like if you were in a DIFFERENT COUNTY than the County where the crime happened but Not Guilty means that you MIGHT have done the crime , but the Prosecution can't PROVE that you did it. For example, let's say you mug someone but had a full disguise on. The Prosecution can't PROVE that it was you since you were wearing a full disguise when you mugged the person. So you would be acquitted as Not Guilty. Let's say someone got mugged on the street in Miami Florida at 2:55 PM. You are in West Palm Beach at a Cousin's INDOOR Party at 2:55. You are arrested and booked for the Miami mugging. You show proof that you were in West Palm Beach INDOORS at a party when the person got mugged on the street in Miami so you have an airtight alibi that proves that you are not the Miami Mugger and you are found Innocent. 💡( A real life thing happened to a Woman where someone got robbed in a different County when she was at a Cousin's Party and inexplicably got arrested and booked for a crime that happened in a different County than the one she was actually in. She was found Innocent because she showed proof she was at her Cousin's Party in a different County and wasn't the Robber. 💡)
Great advice! Let me add, if it's a crime you're being accused of, remain silent. Even when you didn't do anything wrong. Your side means nothing. They'll arrest you either way and the DA will either drop the charges or you'll go to trial. I learned this the hard way.
I live in Sweden, and I've been pulled over once in 10 years - and that was at a stationary "checkpoint" for "routine breathalyzer check". Don't know the ins and outs of police law here, but never have I been pulled over by a cop car on the go. Keep in mind, here people aren't generally that ego-driven, so things like cut-offs, lane-weaving or break-checking don't exist here. Everyone is just driving really well.
I have no doubt that drivers in many countries are much better than the typical American driver. You require much more training and have a much more rigorous performance test and written exam than Americans. Commercial truck drivers require much more stringent training, but ordinary American drivers are terrible at driving at anything but the most basic level.
You’re telling me that Swedes have NEVER weaved in and out of traffic, or tailgated, or cut another driver off? You said it doesn’t exist in Sweden. Come on. People are people, wherever you go.
@@dejavu666wampas9 Thanks for answering, man. As a retired l/e i have witnessed a few cops lie on a traffic stop or contact in order to extract a truth in reference to a crime or even an admission of crime committed. I never did this myself. I could always find another way however the officer is not required by law to be honest except when asked his name, proof of status, and badge number. A citizen is only legally required to do nothing more than that. Dont lie about your name or dob and you have broken no law unless you are lying in order to aid a criminal to escape justice. Its not as bad as you make it sound , but everyone should know their rights on a traffic stop. As a retired cop i would never consent to a search of my vehicle or residence either
I personally lost any and all faith in Law enforcement as a whole here in the United States of America due to the fact that police officers are not legally required to protect people even though their whole motto is "to protect and serve" and because of that I am all for armed and trained neighborhood watch all across our country
Never talk to cops. Give them you 🆔 and remind them you have the right to remain silent. Deny searches and don't answer any question other than to say i declare my right to remain silent. If that doesnt work invoke your right to an attorney. At that point police can no longer question you without an attorney. Refuse searches demand counsel.

Sounds like a coworker of mine. He worked two jobs and was in college, dead tired one night. He stopped and bought a burrito at one of the real Mexican places, where the tortillas were fresh on the spot and had a bit of flour on them. He was a little slow leaving a green light in front of a cop and got pulled over. He had flour around his mouth from the burrito. The cop kept accusing him of doing cocaine!
I’ve watched way too many body cam videos to know that answering “I do not consent to a search unless you have a search warrant”, DOES NOT WORK. A lot of people use that line and they end up going to jail for obstruction and their vehicle is searched anyway because of “reasonable suspicion”. Know your situation and don’t just blindly repeat what someone tells you to say. Choose your battles wisely. It could be the difference between getting back on the road or sitting in the back of a police cruiser.

Your field training officer taught you well.

The judge literally told me that it didn't matter that I was already in intersection when the light turned yellow, I wasn't clear of the other side before it turned red so I "ran a red" and I had to pay $200.

I know a fucked up country when I hear that a Cop is allowed to lie to you
Don't listen to this guy so closely, there are certain things law enforcement can't lie to you about. They are also a lot more restricted than people know.

Stay safe and have a blessed day!
I'm so happy that I live in a country with the exact opposite system of the one in the US. Cops are not allowed to lie to me without a warrant.
I tell the officer I’m not answering any questions and I do not consent to a search of any kind.
Former cop/fed/attorney…know your rights.
Absolutely. But like, actually know what they are and what they mean for your situation. Too many times I saw people claim they knew what their rights were when in fact they did not. Been watching too much TV/RUclips lawyers
I was stopped twice on false pretexts, but defeated the officer's lies with irrefutable facts both times, despite their tenacity defending the lies.
It’s powerful to see facts and evidence stand strong against false claims. Great job!
The only time they are allowed to lie is interrogation and should get them 10 million dollars lawsuit plus 10 years for lying when not in a interrogation room questioning a suspect
This very straight forward explanation without this attorney pitching his law firm is why I’m now a subscriber. What would great is for a retired cop to start making videos of how to deal with aggressive officers and what tricks they’re going to use to intimidate you into thinking that they are correct.
Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Guilty until proven innocent.
Ever wonder why in court you have two options... guilty or not guilty. Why isnt any of those options innocent?
Not guilty = innocent.
Did you fail English?
I went to traffic court once, and the options were "guilty," "not guilty," or "guilty with an explanation."
I'm saying that people merging in front of you is a basic event on the road that just has to be routinely dealt with by maybe letting off the gas a little. Most of the "cut-off" road-rage videos I see is just people with anger management issues who can't control themselves. They are the ones that need to be corrected.
I have never seen break-checking in 30 years. The very rare event of tailgating can get me annoyed, but what can you do except try to drive more carefully. Getting furious and reckless is just a sign of stupidity.
And I'm saying that this is the way people handle traffic in Sweden. The "ego-drivers" (those who get mad when being "cut off") don't seem to exist - for good reason.
@@JM-lk6wo - What did that comedian used to say years ago, “Hey, I resemble that remark.”😀
@@waperboy - Well we could use more roadside civility and attention to good driving here.
Which leads me to thank you for your internet civility. Most often, by now, people are name calling, YELLING, and being complete asses, this deep in an internet conversation.
Internet civility is a thing to me, and I appreciate our civil discourse. Thanks.🙏
Certain people refer to them as heros.
We also have the legal right to lie to them 😂
When I was younger, the same cop would stop me on my way to work and make me late.
I personally lost any and all faith in Law enforcement as a whole here in the United States of America due to the fact that police officers are not legally required to protect people even though their whole motto is "to protect and serve" and because of that I am all for armed and trained neighborhood watch all across our country
I agree.
Never talk to cops. Give them you 🆔 and remind them you have the right to remain silent. Deny searches and don't answer any question other than to say i declare my right to remain silent. If that doesnt work invoke your right to an attorney. At that point police can no longer question you without an attorney. Refuse searches demand counsel.
you don't even have to give your ID unless its a traffic stop
Good points on knowing and asserting your rights.
The other is " How much have you had to drink " instead of " Have you had anything to drink "
A whole lot of nothing 🫗
And some will plant stuff in your vehicle to be able to make an arrest
Nah. He's just telling me my light is out.
Most importantly, admit you are guilty if you are and Don't back down if you are not
Whenever a cop pulls me over and ask me if I know why he pulled me over, I can't help myself and always respond with ( if you don't know then I can't help you and I'll just wait till you figure it out ). Talk about getting some stirred up in a hurry. Some just chuckled and let you go with a verbal warning.
do you know why i pulled you over?
what you have forgotten and you need help to find your meds
Great....thank you and others for putting these videos on internet.
Video recorder your entire engagement with any and all police officers.
The land of freedom and opportunity 😂😂😂😂😂
"Do you have probable cause to search my vehicle?"
"They have the legal right to lie to you" should not be a thing....
Honestly right now at the age I am 5, 5 and living in America all this time. Why isn't law taught in school from kindergarten up?
Because the education system is designed to make people compliant and ignorant.
I was pulled over on a highway one time in southern Louisiana on my way to work. I was driving myself and an apprentice out to a fuel dock where we would board a boat to go to work in the Gulf of Mexico.
A police officer pulled me over. She approached and had her hand on her gun. I rolled the window down. She asked me if I knew why she stopped me. “No.”
She asked me if I knew how fast I was going. “No.”
“Why do you not know how fast you were going?”
“I was not paying attention to my speed.”
“Do you know the speed limit here?”
“Yes. 70 mph.”
“Where are you headed?”
“Fourchon.”
“Are you headed there for business or pleasure?”
“😂😂😂Who goes to Fourchon for pleasure?😂”
I was let go with a warning to watch my speed.
U shdnt answer questions even with an attorney.
I've honestly never had a problem with a cop. I've always been kind and respectful toward them. And they always have been toward me. I think my non-defensive mannerisms toward them played a big part in theirs towars me.
When I was like 18 or 19 one of my friends moved like 2 hours away and I was at his house staying there for like a week, we were drinking at his house and he asked if I wanted to go to his friend's house with these girls. We both were like we should just stay safe play Halo but ended up deciding to go, we get in their car and get pulled over, there's way to many people in the car and girls sitting on everyone's lap. I tell the cop idk where we're going and idk anyone besides my friend and that I'm staying at his house. The cop asked the same question like 5 different times just worded slightly differently, I'm assuming trying to get me to slip up on something. My friends eyes were so bloodshot and the cops kept asking him how many marijuana cigarettes he smoked lol, he didn't smoke weed at the time so he was just drunk and I was the one smoking and drinking earlier, after getting asked how many marijuana cigarettes he smoked for like the 10th time he just goes "are you guys that fucking dumb, you can't tell that I'm drunk as fuck, I didn't smoke shit.".
So.. you mentioned a cop asking “ do you know why I pulled you over” but now what?????
This is true. I speak as a former LEO who never compromised my Christian values. I neither personally lied to people ever nor did I violate their constitutional rights. However, I witnessed numerous fellow officers do that and more, that's why I left LAW ENFORCEMENT. My fellow officers did not enforce the law, they did whatever they could to advance their own crooked agendas.
Do what this gentleman says.
Most of them are jerks...
It absolutely should be against the law for them to lie.
Thank you Sir! Keep making these shorts PLEASE!
