      The so called smart meters can only keep track of the amount of electricity in the power line, it will show you if there is a decrease which is either cause by damage or electricity stealing but it wont tell you which one it is however if you have enough smart meters you can pin point the location
      -
      That saod to steal electrity all you need is a cable made of an electricity conducting material (most metal are conductors) you attach it to a power line (dangerous since you can die from electric shock if not wearing the stuff that i wont tell you) and attach the other end to a battery or whatever electric device you want to power and thats it

      Tusk u wear all rube boots and gloves and the Electricity should go through it that’s what u wear so stop people need to understand that they shouldn’t have the power to just turn people off like that

    • @tusk3260
      @tusk3260 4 года назад

      Like i said: I won't tell you what you need to wear. I won't say if you are correct or wrong, all i will is that: Its very dangerous not only because of electricity but because you can get caught. So you shouldn't do it unless your life depends on it.

      To: Stepside1986,
      If you can truly prove by showing years of past records of your usage during specific months of the year that the meter was reflecting improper usage, you can take them to court and win... It has been done!

    the old ways are still the best ways
    make a jumper in the service entrance to your breaker box
    use a 300 amp disconnect and a "bleeder" breaker to power the meter when you feel like you having a little free power (just remember to use the meter for real a little or they will figure out what you did)

      No one can lose something that was not in their prior possession.
      And trust me on this one: The energy you and I pay for is not made of the sweat of honest men and women at the electricity factory. It is stolen. From nature.
      Oil and coal, buried tens of thousands years ago now keep our climate cozy, ain't it?
      Rivers dammed and mountain valleys flooded.
      The company actually steals the energy from you, me, your kids and the rest of the living creatures on this planet and selling it back to us... for a mind boggling profit.
      If you like math, check the numbers. How much it costs the company to produce one kilowatt and how much you pay for it.
      Then try to find out how much cost's *you* for one kilowatt produced by the company.
      Don't forget to add VAT.
      ;)

      Oh yeah, I forgot engineering, research and development, property, construction, paying employees, where all free. With your thinking, farmers are stealing from you because the food is taken from the ground, Metals we use in our every day life like gold, silver, copper are all being stolen from us right? because no one is investing time, effort and money to produce those resources. Fuck it, honey is free, beekeepers are stealing from us by harvesting honey the bees produce and selling it right back to us!

    Having remote turn off would be risky as hackers could turn off hundreds or thousands of meters at once and the switch will be another failure point.
    Though the tear down of one I saw there was no switching hardware in it just shunts and transformers.

      You'd wear (or would be asked by your employer to wear) that sort of equipment installing any kind of meter, smart or not, on large commercial or multifamily installations as seen in this video. We're talking about electricity here after all. As for why it's better, the utilities don't have to pay a bunch of folk to read every meter, which also eliminates inaccurate billing, and they can get live data whenever they, or the consumer, need an update, just to name a few benefits.

    • @55dpc
      @55dpc 10 лет назад +14

      If electric meters are more efficient to read, why isn't my price gone down?

    • @qtrtilldawn
      @qtrtilldawn 10 лет назад +1

      David Chambers
      BTW, that was required safety gear so the workers family doesn't sue the company for so much it raises our price. It protects you!
      It was save millions upon millions of dollars by getting rid of meter readers that had to walk into every yard with all kinds of hazards, let alone the house dog, and the insurance required.
      Then the time it took to personally read every meter. And not raise the cost of electric. It may not have gone down, but it will be longer before it can go up.
      Problem is, most large Power Companies probably laid off thousands of meter readers. Good for us but sucks for them.
      As for remote turn off, the meter is not strong enough to do it from a localized location. They would have to drive down the street anyway. And even with the old meters, I could do that with parts from a normal home parts & pieces.

      @frederiquezug5938 10 лет назад

      Ron Rold 4 ways to lower your electrical bill.
      This is how your electrical company is going to save money and lower your rates.
      #1 Installing smart meters is a HUGE INVESTMENT for the power companies. Remember your new smart meter is worth about $400 each and has to be replaced about every 10 years.
      #2 The vast meshed network of other radio's and other communication facilities are needed to move the ton of customers private billing data.
      #3 The huge new “billing” computer required to store all of this customer private billing data.
      #4 The amount of additional power being stolen will double or triple because a smart meter can not detect an electrical bypass. The meter readers have now been fired and no longer will be doing the meter readings and looking for illegal power connections

    yes. Look up dipole and you'll see how it works. Wave hit both sides and AC voltage flows through both sides of the antenna. For something like an earth battery, half of the antenna is grounded. + in open air and - side in the ground. They're pulling 110 volts AC. So look up Earth Battery, and Dipole Antenna. I tried it and was getting under 50 volts but it takes copper to do it. Egyptians used lots of copper and they even had wireless electricity.

      They won't let you keep it for long, and if you tell them that you won't let them exchange it for a smart meter when they want to they will charge you a penalty fee, and if you don't pay that they will turn off your electricity!
      The only way to win is to somehow prove the smart meter is harming someone in the house,... Good luck with THAT!!

  • @defhead2

    Because I work during the day, sleep during the night most of my activities are during 'peak' time.
    I don't want to cook my dinner at midnight, I don't want to have to wash during the weekend (my only time for relaxation).
    I don't want to have to wait until 2am in the morning before I can switch my tv and dvd on.
    I'm generally not at home during off-peak times so why would I want to run my air-conditioner then?
    It's cheaper to travel by rail on the weekend (off-peak), well great, just a shame I work Monday to Friday like the majority of people.
    The introduction of a 'smart-meter' regardless of what any agency says will end up costing me more money than what it does now.

      Sad part is that, peak power is a myth. It doesn't actually cost a power company any more money to start up another turbine/generator. Peak power is just a way to scam people out of their money.

    • @Jimmeh_B
      @Jimmeh_B 6 лет назад +1

      Def Head : So buy some batteries, an inverter/charger and a timer... charge them in the "off-peak" times and use it like normal.... Ride a fucking bike to work and stop ya fucken bitching!!
      David Ramsey : It actually has nothing to do with bringing up another turbine, there is one sitting there spinning anyway and that energy is sent to load resistors that waste it to heat 24/7... that's to ensure there is surplus power available so they can maintain voltage under high demand transients. They can't just "bring up another turbine" that weighs thousands of tonnes and then bring it into synchronicity in an instant. There are REAL concerns when it comes to the distribution network, look up capacitive reactance, reluctance and impedance. Educate yourself instead of making wild assumptions and just running with that.
      You probably switch all your lights off for "earth hour" every year too... Do you know that when the grid "suffers" a massive off-loading like that of a couple of hundred thousand people all turning shit off at once the power companies to take action to keep the turbines from speeding up and the 50/60Hz going off the Richter??? What do you reckon they do?? "Just turn a coupla turbeens orf"???
      Where do you reckon all that power goes??

    • @joshhayl7459
      @joshhayl7459 6 лет назад +2

      To: Def Head,
      Your statement that, in the end a smart meter will cost you more money, doesn't make ANY sense!!,
      the smart meter is going to read the same usage of kilowatt hours as the old analog meter, no matter what method is used for reading it they are still going to get the same numbers and you will still be charged for the same amount of kilowatt-hour usage regardless of the type of meter used to record the usage.

      Humberto Alanis Where we live they sent out a notice stating they were going to ‘upgrade’ our meter. Before they came out to install the smart meter. The day they came out to install it, a man knocked on our door and told us he was going to install it and we told him we didn’t want it. We also printed a piece of paper, (which we water-proofed), and attached it to our meter, that stated no smart meter zone. After we told the man this, we seen him call on the phone and was on the phone for about 7-10 min before he left.

    The utility Companies survived very well for a 100 years with analog meters . They didnt like the fact that the consumer could alter it , turn it upside down etc. Now with the smart meters we can no longer mess with the meter as well as there no longer is an analog wheel and dials that documents the usuage . so now the power companies can fudge with those numbers all they want. Is the average home owner ever going to catch an $.25 cent extra usuage on their bill? not very likely and how would they even prove it . So when i power company does shit like that say times 2 million monthly customers do the math thats $500,000 they just stole from us when nobody even noticed or can prove a thing. Think i am wrong? I am so telling the truth it makes my stomach turn

    FACT: What they will not tell you.. Electric generating turbines have been installed in water pipes everywhere. The water AND power companies are very, very combined with each other. One flush of your toilet will power a light bulb for a whole year. Electric companies are also deeply invested in solar power companies! Also gas companies! BASICALLY anything that can be used for power is property of the power company! Free power is everywhere, but they are to greedy to share...

    Let's look at why we need TIN FOIL HATS.
    #1 A smart meter will hurt or even KILL disabled homeowners who have disabled medical implants. The average of deaths by smart meter radiation and smart meter fires is almost 100 every month in North America.
    #2 Did you know if your power company “turned off” the power to your home when they did a smart meter install, your chance of a smart meter fire increased by a factor of 10,000.
    #3 Your power company has access to all of you private power information. Eg When you make tea, when you turn on your alarm etc. This private information is sold to Google for huge sums of money. Ask your power company what the second radio transmitter in your smart meter does. (ZigBee)
    #4 A smart meter will cause cancer to return if your family members who are fighting cancer at home. If they come home from the hospital and sleep near a smart meter, they will die. Check with the US Cancer Society website.
    #5 Smart Meter RADIATION will turn off breakers in your home. Both AFCI's and GFI's get turned off by the radiation from the smart meter.
    #6 You smart meter is very accurate, BUT, the software (firmware) is programmable. Your bill has nothing to do with the power you use.
    #7 Smart meter radiation is breaking Ionic Bonding.
    #8 A huge expenditure for a huge loss. Billions of dollars to purchase something that does not general generate any power and each smart meter need 4 watts to operate. One million smart meters use 4,000 KILOWATTS of energy to operate.
    #9 The second radio transmitter is for ZigBee. If you want your power company to MONITOR your home 24/7, then you are in luck. Don’t forget, this private information will be sold. Why do you think your power company spends BILLIONS of dollars and does not generate one watt of extra power to sell?

    Why aren't the meters inside? Most homes in UK, not all, have their meters in a cupboard inside. Does this make it more difficult for others to steal your electricity? I know the home owner can still be duping the system but at least they can't say it was someone else!

    It's all "A circus of values!" Just get a few solar panels a month and grow your own production till you don't need them anymore. One 80 to 120 watt PV panel per month is cheap and affordable and before long you will gain enough power to run MUCH of the things in your house. It will however show you just how much power you are wasting very quickly. Lights actually don't take much power at all to run if you switch to LED. When you get to about 1KW, things start getting easier.

    So you are not the electric company but you can go into the meter anytime, anywhere and see what’s going on or turn it off. What is to stop a hacker from doing the same thing?
    Why would a hacker want to do that? How about for kicks, to steal power (mask their use and make it seem like the person they choose is using the energy and this make them pay the bill), revenge.
    The old way allows the electric company to turn on off the power from their office, you can see when your power has been hacked into. Usually it is a neighbor and you can follow the cable to their home. These meters allow someone from miles away to steal your power and you have to pay for it while you dispute the bill.

    • @Jimmeh_B
      @Jimmeh_B 6 лет назад

      Auntie M : It simply doesn't work that way. The best you could do is reprogram your own smart meter to change the tariff so you pay less for your own power until you get caught.

    • @joshhayl7459
      @joshhayl7459 6 лет назад

      To: Auntie M,
      You misunderstand, there is no way hacking a smart-meter can allow someone from "Miles away" or even next-door to steal your power without using wires to do so, and a smart meter will neither help nor hinder that.

    • @joshhayl7459
      @joshhayl7459 6 лет назад +1

      To: Auntie M,
      That is not how the system has EVER worked, even back many years ago, they could not turn your electricity off "From the office", they would have had to send someone out to connect or disconnect you somewhere outside your house.
      Even now, someone has to come out within range (several hundred feet) of your smart meter to send it a signal to turn off the electricity to your house.
      They still can't turn it off "From the office",
      but it IS coming to that soon!

    They can't really monitor power the same way you do water or other goods, which is why they use a meter to track your usage.

    This video says nothing. He states that with a code you can control the meter (yeah, duh) and then makes several references to "do these kind of things" without ever saying what these things are. This is creative editing. He never says people are breaking into meters or that anyone ever even has. He never says your security is at risk. In fact he states that the worst thing that can happen is that a single house will get turned off. This article is paranoia BS and all of you are eating it up.

    A good way to reduce your power bill is to find another way to produce your own power, separate from the power company. Everyone should educate themselves on how to do this. There are many methods. Wind turbines, Earth battery, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal electric, RF coil to electric, and a whole lot more types of power harvesting and absorbing and converting schemes exist out in the web and other places. You all have to consider for yourselves which one or more of them is it going to be worth it for you to do, make, and to start to produce your own power. WELL, DON'T. JUST SIT. THERE LOOKING. AT THAT SCREEN, GET AFTER IT !!!

    People wouldn't steal power if power companies had some humanity. My electric is off cuz the previous tenant didn't pay their bill before they died. I called to get it turned on again in my name and PECO said they had to do an investigation to make sure I'm not associated with the previous tenant and it takes a minimum of 3 business days... I have to have my kids stay at my in laws cuz PECO doesn't care that I have a 5 year old on a breathing machine all they care about is getting their bill paid by a dead guy that I have never met before.... Wtf. My landlord lied and said utility bill is included in rent but didn't tell me it meant just water bill until the day after I move in the power gets shut off...

    In the 70's we used to just turn the meter upside down making it run backwards for 10-15 days. After awhile they got wind of what we were doing and put heavy duty rings on them that prevented removing the meter in order to flip it. Damn, I was frustrated!

    So who pays for the electricity to keep a meter on every second of an individuals life? You cannot turn off the electricity which is why a criminal is sent to trespass on to your property to steal your meter in hopes you are dumb enough not to go buy another meter. No meter = No Power. Meter has no switch no batteries and is always on. A device that has no switch no batteries and always on might be called a free Energy machine?

    The so called smart meters can only keep track of the amount of electricity in the power line, it will show you if there is a decrease which is either cause by damage or electricity stealing but it wont tell you which one it is however if you have enough smart meters you can pin point the location
    -
    That saod to steal electrity all you need is a cable made of an electricity conducting material (most metal are conductors) you attach it to a power line (dangerous since you can die from electric shock if not wearing the stuff that i wont tell you) and attach the other end to a battery or whatever electric device you want to power and thats it

  • @davidlisney2059

    People feeling that they have a right to steal electricity are not exactly rare in the UK. Smart meters are not going to make it much more difficult, obviously some people will be unhappy about them. Much of the information presented on RUclips is done by people who have no knowledge of RF at all. The physiological effects may be up for debate but radio fields obey inverse square law, that is not a matter for debate.
