A fantastic effort by Choice TV. Let me flesh out some bits. 1. The bust of the Marquis de Castries is set, ironically in the George V Park, then the King of England. Its original location was in Constitution Park. 2. Castries Library is never mentioned. It is a Carnegie Library built in 1924 which means that in 2024 it was 100 years old. If you stand by Johnsons Hardware and look up you can still see the original name. 3. The section of Castries between Brazil St and the Castries River survived the Castries Fire. Therefore, the Saint Lucia Development Bank and the rest are not housed in the original buildings. What has happened over the decades is that new buildings have been erected in the colonial style. 4. In 2024 I turned 60 years old and Jn Baptiste Street already existed. I grew up knowing Jn Baptiste Street. Located there was Crick’s Funeral Home, the Blind Welfare Association and a Lumber Yard. Recent it is not. All kudos to Choice TV on an excellent effort!
What an educational presentation Hats off to you both. But the former Supermarket on the corner of Chisel and Micoud St. was Elwin Marcellin's, and not Philip Marcellin
Thank you for this fascinating and informative presentation. You didn’t tell us the origin of Jn. Baptiste Street though. I’m thinking, perhaps it was named after Jean Baptiste Bideau? I grew up on Chisel St. and always had doubts about it being named after the tool. I guess it’s still a mystery. 😂 Also, will you kindly consider the origin of the names of our 10 districts? That should make an even more interesting story.😊
Can you also mention, old cable and wireless, old M&C building before the fire etc.... so much history.... prince Albert basin and greasy pole before joined to faux a chaud, the old cemetery history , the ice factory, the coal market. If you got some old photos that would be the icing on the cake !!! Good job guys!!
Thanks for sharing this history and very informative as well as educational information, I find it very interesting as well as stimulating, ST 🇱🇨 Lucian watching from the U.S.A with admiration and amazement you both did an awesome job touring the city educating us on this special touring of a walk back into our history 🤔👏👏👏👍👉long Live ST Lucia 🇱🇨 👈🙌🙏
Very good!! I just wished that you had spoken to some old folks who would have reminded you of Nato book stores, next to the cathedral, and on Maryann Street, old Modern Funeral home, in the exact spot of the senior RC school on Brazil Street, Odlums shop and the crusader newspaper(St.Louis street), Normal photographer( first communion pictures) etc. And where does bridge street start, as well as Manoel street. I forgot, old Williams Bakery, the old ice factory etc. Please do this again!! I enjoyed and I'm sure others did, but take us back a little further. Thank you
Thank you for expanding my knowledge. I will definitely be using this information. Can't wait to learn about more street names, district names and by extension family names.
Next Up, I would like to see the history behind the names of the various Districts and villages, towns and communities. That would seal it. Thanks much.
What about Hospital Road? I grew up on Hospital Road …The New Road…The Morne..I am feeling some type of way about all these Europeans naming all these streets.

Very interesting, great job
Keep up the good work
Nice idea, its years no one ever thought of doing this. Very impressive. How bout Vieux fort and Soufriere and some other communities
They should have the names written both in french and English like →2:44 !
Continue the good work
Again Ya'll forgot to point out the St Lucia Fire Service which was directly right behind Ya'll Manoel Street
William Peter was known as 'Old King Coal'.
Question, on what parcel of land "Castries" is located"? As we know Castries is a reference to something on a map sheet .
What did the Caribs and Arrawaks call these places
What about Hospital Road? I grew up on Hospital Road …The New Road…The Morne..I am feeling some type of way about all these Europeans naming all these streets.
