Now blossoms a tree on the lands of Karelian
Now thickens up the birch forests of Karelia,
cuckoo cuckoos there and it's spring,
take my endless longing to there.
I know your hilly forests and mountain belts,
and the smoke of your swiddens and the slumbering nights,
and the untouched trees of your forests,
and your looming straits and the mouths of your fjords.
To there I often take my trips
took my path through the forests and the spruce seas,1
I stood hatless on the hilly forests,
from where I saw the beauty of Karelia ahead of me.
Or I went to visit the men of the villages,
at the great hilly forests where they lived.
I saw the men of proper and joyful work,
and saw where the heart of Karelia beats.
