      RedYellow Blue
      This one is one of the most brilliant script of the show.
      Was all about masturbating, making fun of the subject, but letting clear that is a natural activity for men and women.
      But the magic touch is that there's any mention of the word "masturbation" or anything sexual, but they use a lot of expressions not related at all to sex to say something sexual, and you get it, and it's fun.
      Genius.

    • @onigireee
      @onigireee 4 года назад +16

      I think Golden Girls was the same. Despite most of the trio's conversations revolving around sexual relations, they _never_ used the trigger words and danced through the topics with such grace that we knew _exactly_ what they were talking about, without them saying a straight word.

The show at that time was still on Wednesday and it's ratings were in the 30s. So he could still marginally engage in normal activity.

    I love Curb at least as much as I love Seinfeld, but I think I'm glad that the Seinfeld writers had to work under broadcast-network restrictions, as it forced them to become creative in ways that brought us scenes like this one.

    • @drrockkso8882
      @drrockkso8882 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, network censorship rules usually make comedy more bland, but sometimes they actually force the writers to come up with creative workarounds that make the jokes even better. What makes "The Contest" so genius is that they wrote an entire episode about masturbation without once ever directly mentioning masturbation. The humor comes from the gang constantly dancing around the topic and letting the audience fill in the blanks. If they'd written this episode for like HBO with no language restrictions and just explicitly talked about masturbation the whole time, it wouldn't have been nearly as funny.

    Back when George was giving his case for the apartment, I hadn't seen the episode where he tried to sneak the marble rye up into Susan's parents apartment using the fishing pole. So when he said "And there it was, the marble rye hanging from the end of the fishing pole...", I thought he was refering to THIS moment using euphemisms

    As many have noted below, one of the best parts is watching Jason Alexander trying hard not to burst out laughing after saying "It's not funny, Elaine!" Here he is, playing a character over the age of 30 who was caught "self-gratifying" by his own mother in her house. Of course it was funny!
