Fast and full recovery to THE MOST ELECTRIFYING SPORTS ENTERTAINER IN ALLLLL OF RUclips - and thank you for reviewing this marginally better than Heroes of Wrestling WCW Nitro - I'm grateful I don't have your job now 😐
Since we are in rumble season I would like to suggest the Royal Rumble 2003 (mostly because it features both one of the worst and one of the best World title matches on the same show).
I swear the best part of watching some of these old reviews is knowing that its bad and Simon know its bad, but yet we still get a review only to watch simon implode on almost every part ultimately ending in what can only be described as manic depressed laughter. Oh simon you do give me warm feelings in my tum tum sir!
Lmfao it damnn sure didn't age very well it's almost unbearable to watch now especially the shit they did with women pathetic The wrestling itself was medicore at best bunch of jobber with 5 main event guys lmfao made no sense
@@DatBoiChris420 so ... The attitude era roster is the modern roster? Mostly jobers with 5 main event guys? At least back in the attitude era the women were bearable to look at. These days it's like looking at a gallery of acid attack survivors and botched plastic surgery jobs.
Yo Simon, you're the only reason I tune in to this channel! I hope you have a quick recovery and I hope everything goes well for you brother! You are the glue that keeps this flubbing ship together!
Indeed. And if you want to take it deeper and more subtle maybe, in the "worst wrestling shows ever" list, there is one RAW said to be 28.01.2000. In 2000 January 28th was a Friday. They probably meant February 28 and the RAW with the infamous yet greatest moment in sports entertainment history: Mae Young giving birth to a hand!
Met Konnan after a Saturday Night taping around this same time. He was signing autographs and answering questions for anyone that had one for him out in the parking lot on the way to the bus. I got my ticket to the show autographed and still have it in a lucite holder with my old basketball card collection.
This is hands down my favourite Retro Ups and Downs i've seen. Seeing Simon suffering through late 90's-2000 WCW is just a treat for everyone. I get to rewatch it everytime while being occupied because it's THAT enjoyable. Keep up the great content pal ❤
Please do ROYAL RUMBLE 1988. The first ever Royal Rumble. That ppv also had a great womens tagteam match (The glamour girls vs The jumping bomb angels.)
Wrestlemania X...(Macho Man vs. Crush, Bret vs. Owen, HBK vs. Razor Ramon ladder match IC Titles, Luger vs. Yoko / Yoko vs. Bret. Doink/Dink vs. Bam Bam/Luna And MORE!)
Props to the editor of the video because he fixed the number of UPS from 0 to 2 at 14:53 because Simon gave the DDP promo and up prior to that..., respect
I remember I was so entrenched in anything wrestling in 1998, I thought everything was great. Loved The Warrior shit in WCW then. Looking back now, I was not a very wise 15 year old.
1998 wcw uncensored needs a retro ups and downs....... please Simon, before i die..... legendary card (hart vs henning 3, their final match ever on a premium live event)
Being a Millenial i love aew but I will always have a soft spot for WWE in my heart. Never watched an episode of nitro and after watching this up and down I can understand how some people say WWE is becoming nitro towards its end
WCW actually did the same tag-team main event match in late 1999 of Hulk & Hart Vs Sting & Luger but I've always really liked that match. Hulk was back in red & yellow, Sting was in black & white and he was also the WCW World Champion. Supposedly Sting had turned heel but the fans still loved him so it was almost a babyface vs babyface match. It's no masterpiece but much better fun than the 1998 version.
This was around the time I was actively checking out of Nitro. I would watch for the first hour, then switch over to Raw. I’d go to Nitro during commercial breaks.
Back in the 80s and very early 90s , the NWA/ WCW had some great wrestling , Dusty Rhodes, Barry Windham, Arn Anderson,Tully Blanchard, Nikita Koloff, the Midnight Express, the Rock n Roll express. the Steiner brothers, Ricky Steamboat,Sting, Lex Luger ,the Road Warriors , Doom and of course the man not Becky Lynch the Nature Boy himself , they had a superior product compared to the cartoonish WWF it’s so sad to see how things fell apart in the late 90s😢
Yes!! I've asked like 5 times for this. The survivor series matches were on point. Who didn't like taker destroying Vince with that first punch etc rapper cena was funny
We should normalized sitting down Simon I get we used to him standing up for most ups and downs but life can alter our usual routines I appreciate Simon for continuing to provide us content no matter where he is and whether he stands up,sits down, laying on the floor
Just listened to a hilarious podcast! “The crap wrestling podcast”. Absolutely hilarious one of the best I’ve listened to and I’m pretty sure the 2 boys have only just started.
I'm pretty sure this Nitro was during my very early days of watching wrestling when I was 16. How I kept watching wrestling at this point I don't know.
That WCW getting huge ratings just prove something that my dear sweet Mother used to say - some people's tastes are in their mouths. Get well soon, Simon! ❤️🙂
I was a teen at this time in the UK and we used to be able to watch nitro and thunder on TNT movies. I've not watched the video yet but I predict nothing matches from disco inferno and Ernest Miller
Just watched this vid and surprise surprise both disco and the cat on here! I do feel that you are judging this programme on today's standards as this was the usual bollox from both WWE and WCW in the late 90's and was lapped up
I remember this episode so much, being a RAW kid and ended up watching this when it wasn't on. This episode unfairly shaped my opinion of WCW as a kid. Like I watched ECW one night on a whim similar to this and I was blown tf away. Friends would be talking about Nitro at school and I would just be thinking, haha, you losers watch that stuff. 🤣🤣
You gotta do a retro ups and downs for summer slam 2000. Triple H, angle & the rock. The dudleyz and hardyz run it back. If nothing else that opening video package and the fact it was sponsored by chef boyardee
Internet: Wrestling was so much better in the 90s. Wrestling in the 90s: 2 good segments, 11 crap segments. Funny thing is, I see A LOT of things on this episode of WCW that I see in AEW, but in AEW, it gets an "up" and people rave about it, but literally the exact same thing occurs here and it gets a down. Characters appearing just to disappear (Warrior/Black), squash matches with wrestlers that have someone beat hitting more moves afterwards (Norton/Wardlow), the "slave" angle (Lodi and Saturn/Miro and Chuck Taylor), factions with members that do bad, long-winded promos with terrible verbiage in order to act "cool" (Wolfpack/The Elite) just to name a few.
It's amazing how terrible WCW was from late 1998 until the day it died, yet it took at least a year until its full pathetic spiral downward became apparent to us fans who loved WCW from the very beginning.
You should do a combo of the 1991 Survivor Series and This Tuesday in Texas since the 91 Survivor Series was basically just a huge ad for the This Tuesday in Texas PPV a week later.
Why does Simon not live with me? He is so entertaining and even the corniest jokes make me burst out laughing. "I am biased because I am his son" my manager asked what I was laughing about.
Hey Simon so do u do retro UPS and downs like a couple episodes at 1time cause u were fine yesterday on rampage and smackdown ups and downs lol🤣🤣🤣🤷 anyways next one Royal rumble 99 😉🙏
You guys at What Culture produce great videos, better than watching tv. Here's a countdown, how about the most successful wrestlers who never knew how to wrestle. Maybe they used only finishers or had 5 or less moves. I think Hogan,, Goldberg, cena, and Eva Marie would make the list.
This episode is fun because at like 1402 I looked and realized, "Hey. Didn't Diamond Dallas Page get an up earlier?" I immediately rewound and found out he did. Then I when back a little too far ahead, so to UPS, and eventually found out they totally caught it cuz he and his team are awesome Sad edit: Then came Goldberg vs AL Green, and a "surprising up" that's surprisingly got missed.
I remember watching this "live" and asked myself many of the same questions you mentioned Simon. I do remember the missed spot in the main event, and when they ran it again I just fell on the floor laughing. The announcers were the best part of that show I think.
Nitro had some amazing things… this episode is def not one of them. I started losing interest in wrestling after this. Then the finger poke of doom happened, WWF bought WCW and everything went to shit and I had stopped watching until AEW come around.

Raw 8th June 1998, the born of the outlaw rule when billy gunn and road dogg pinned each other to retain the titles in a triple threat match against the LOD and DOA (hilarious)
The only thing that was hilarious was watching Simon's meltdown at the end of the video LOL who's making these suggestions and who's voting for these shows to be reviewed!!?!
I remember this period of WCW. They had some good young talent they could have built good stories around. Instead, they gave the mic to the Hulkster and let him talk. And talk. And talk. For the promotion that was supposed to be built around rasslin' this was very frustrating for the fans. No wonder they lost the war.
On the "worst show" wall at the end, I think they meant the Feb 28th 2000 RAW. Because the January 2000 RAWs were all awesome! Just checked, and yeah, Feb 28 is the Mae Young Gives Birth episode which also has an Ups & Downs.
Upvote this suggestion to cheer Simon up by letting him review Repo Man:
Retro Ups & Downs for This Tuesday in Texas, please.
WWF's PPV 'This Tuesday in Texas' the Repo Man wins a match! Simon deserves it.
Was that the same one where Hogan v Taker?
Fast and full recovery to THE MOST ELECTRIFYING SPORTS ENTERTAINER IN ALLLLL OF RUclips - and thank you for reviewing this marginally better than Heroes of Wrestling WCW Nitro - I'm grateful I don't have your job now 😐

I'm giving Simon a golden Up for being so Karagias to do this for us.
I see what you did there.😉

Simon should do a retro ups and downs video for the first ever WWE draft which came on an episode of Raw in 2002.
He should
Seconded, that's a great idea.
Everyone is always clamoring about much they want the "Attitude Era" back but we tend to forget that some of wrestling's worst crap came in that era.
no era is perfect

"but yes this is shit" retro up and downs is breaking Simon 😂
Yo Simon, you're the only reason I tune in to this channel! I hope you have a quick recovery and I hope everything goes well for you brother! You are the glue that keeps this flubbing ship together!
Who else noticed Simon said 2008 Monday nitro instead of 1998 at the beginning of the video

For those of you wondering why there was no RAW against nitro on this night RAW apparently was preempted for the US open tournament
Simon Miller, the greatest RUclips entertainer in all of wrestling RUclips. Thank you sir, you keep me entertained and happy deep down in my tum tum.
Well deserved. Wcw Monday Nitro was flawless every single week all the way through 2008. (I bet none of y'all noticed he said 2008, not 1998)
I noticed and was mindfucked for a second
I noticed and was very confused, I'm an idiot.
I did and had to rewind to make sure
I noticed. It hit me after 1 minute when I realized "Wait Nitro in 2008?"
I was like: Simon, where were you in 2008?

Summerland 98 or 2008

August 31st 2008 episode? I know you meant 1998, but now I'm thinking what Nitro would be like in 2008.
Clearly this is a case of Simon knowing something we don't. And I want some answers damnit!
Simon is there a highest rated ECW show ever? That would be interesting to see
Why wouldn't there be?
Yes there is. A reported total of 47 people watched on that glorious day.
Is this some parallel reality we're living in? I have ZERO recollection of Lex Lugar ever having facial hair! So weird LoL
Because he was mostly clean shaven lol, it's not that hard to work out and in wwe he was probably made to be clean shaven.

So this is where WWE got the idea to expand RAW to three hours watching this episode of Monday Night Nitro.

So the “highest rated” Nitro ever has only 2 ups and 11 downs…you sure it’s not the lowest rated Nitro ever?
Well the video does state that while it’s the highest episode, it’s also a terrible episode as well.
Imagine. Bron was only one year old when this aired. And Hook was still cooking.

10 downs at the start to 0😭 Jesus how was this the highest rated WCW Nitro?!?!
