  • 1999 - 2003 Lexus RX300 - In this video I'll show you how I replaced the radiator in a 2000 Lexus RX300. In the process of removing the radiator, I discovered the aluminum of the ac condenser fins had extensive corrosion and decided to replace it before it gave out. Removal of the condenser makes the radiator replacement easier only requiring the removal of the bumper facia.
If you decide to replace the condenser, first have the refrigerant removed from your ac system at any auto repair shop that does ac service. After the condenser has been installed, I'll show you how I evacuated and recharged the ac if you choose to do it yourself.
Aside from basic tools and metric sockets, I suggest you get spring clamp and hose pliers. These tools will help you remove the radiator and transmission hoses with much less difficulty.

So I’m currently swapping an engine on a 2nd gen Rx an 04 AWD rx330 to be exact,
I was going to try to pull it out with the transaxle attached but the transfer case protrudes too far and gets caught on the steering rack. And I also still have the back header on so there is about 5 inches of space between the back header tail pipe and transfer case output shaft.
Anyway I was able to get all 6 torque converter bolts out and 8 bell housing bolts have been removed but the transaxle won’t budge. I was told to immobilize the engine then put multiple putty knives around the seam (I can get a .5mm putty knife around most the seam except the top center seam beneath the valve covers.) then leverage the far end of the transaxle to wiggle it until a putty knife falls out then start prying from that location.
I unbolted all the powertrain mounts and the ones on the passenger and driver side are still attached to the engine and transaxle but out of the subframe holes the studs fit into. Should I place the engine and or transaxle mounts back into the subframe or just level the two, secure the engine with jack stands and then wiggle the tranny till I can get some room to work? I also thought that set up wedges or spring leaf axel/ pinion wedges would be useful if I could hammer some in uniformly around the perimeter of the bell housing till it came free. I’m pretty sure corrosion as well as opposing angles and pressure are keeping these two from separating.

If all the bolts that attaches the engine to the transmission have been removed, the engine/transmission seam should split by wiggling the engine. This is assuming the you've got the engine hoisted on a engine hoist and the transmission is supported with a floor jack. I'm guessing that one more bolt needs to be removed that you're not seeing. From my recollection doing an engine swap on a RX350, the driver's side CV axle has to be removed since the axle center bearing bracket is attached to the engine. With the axle removed, you should have more room to the firewall exhaust components.

@@hardlymovingpro both cv axels are out and I have taken 8 bell housing bolts- 2/ 14mm directly under the flywheel access panel, 1 more 14mm in the crevice behind the the transfer case then 2/ 17mm bolts under the starter in front and 3 more 17mm between the starter and the nut that threads onto the threaded stud that threads into the transfer case on the far corner closest to the firewall a bunch of people say I must be missing a bolt but there are only supposed to be 8.
I’m hoisting the engine out the top not dropping the subframe.

I have a 2002 RX300 with over 200,000 miles on it and I think the bearings or clutch is going out on the compressor is there a way of getting them out without taking out the radiator and condenser and removing all the ac lines? Or it being old as it is just go ahead and replace the compressor your opinion please.

Would be difficult to service the compressor clutch with it still being bolted to the engine. Less hassle, IMHO, to replace the compressor.
