  • In this video we follow the step by step process involved in replacing the radiator in a Lexus RX-330. Also discussed are the differences in aftermarket radiators versus original equipment parts. in the video I mentioned use of The AirLiftII cooling system refilling tool. How does your car run, cuz I’ve had some major issues that I’ve gotten fixed with mine like double blown head gaskets, both control arms and the radiator as of recently. I don’t know if it’s worth dumping money in it anymore and would need the opinion of a fellow 330 driver

    I need to do this on my ‘08 RX350 Monday, vehicle has 150,000 miles and this is the first issue I’ve ever had with it. I didn’t get a super expensive replacement but hopefully it’ll last a while, thanks for the straight forward explanation and not playing god awful music or talking a lot during your video like you’re some sort of wanna be production company.

    Great video. I just replaced the radiator on my Dodge Ram 2004 and it was much less involved than this. My wife has this Lexus RX 330 model and I hope I can get away with my plan for a coolant flush without running into any issues with the radiator or heater core (we bought the car from a young guy who didn't have any recent maintenance records on the vehicle, hence the need to replace the coolant). If I wind up having to replace the radiator, I will take your advice and get a manufactured model. I wouldn't want to repeat this repair twice. Good to see honest mechanics online helping others.

      +joel mccoin Thank you. I must agree. We learn which parts are quality and which are garbage. One time they sold me on super duper brake pads and I installed them exclusively for about a year and a half. Then for the next two years I replaced them all for free. I stick with the stuff that works and I'm always reluctant to try new suppliers. Thanks for watching!

    Just completed this repair on a Canadian made 2004 RX330 without tow package and the Denso 221-9387 fit perfectly. Dealer said I needed the 160410A412 but the $150 Denso was fine. This particular Denso is made for them by Koyorad in Indonesia but arrived in a Denso box. There were foam strips on the sides of the old rad that I carefully scraped/peeled off and reattached with Krylon spray adhesive. Two small tricks in the removal are 1) use a ratchet and Phillips bit to remove the long screws that go through the A/C condenser since they are often rusty and 2) use a slot screwdriver to pry the condenser up and out of the bracket it is sitting in. Mine was stuck in the bracket until I gently pried it up and out.

    Good video, first I have seen from this chap. Have a rx300 same year and will be replacing the rad with a genuine part. Pattern part is 200 euros whereby genuine article is 410. Si it’s costing 21 extra for a component that should last years. Had it 12 years already and still drives like new. The only difference is I have a large aircon pipe across the front of the fan cowling to navigate. Hopefully without degassing the aircon.

      +wyattoneable I appriciate that. The more I can give customers the option the better. That way I can remind them when a part fails to provide the service that's expected. But for the price of this radiator we could replace a few and still be under the cost of OE. Take care.

    The bottom screws on the mounting bracket that hold the radiator to the air conditioning panel are rusted badly. If I cut the heads off with a small grinder, will I be able to separate the two panels? Any other suggestions.

    The 05 rx330 in australia is the plastic version
    Yep split the plastic housing on the left hand side
    Thermostat was dodgy as hell, maybe the thermostat jams closed - original part has a secondary rubber gasket- shredded and jammed the valve. If the the thermostat jammed closed, then the pressure would build up, causing high temp and high pressure, splitting the plastic radiator housing
    The thermostat is a good 90 mins to change, bit of a head fxxxk for me at least. Great video - Thankyou

    Would an 07 RX 350 replacement be identical to this one? Also, I noticed that the 330 has an aluminum radiator and my 350's is plastic. Do the 350's have the same issues with the aftermarkets?

  • @privatelisting366
    @privatelisting366 5 лет назад +2

    You don't need a stubby screwdriver to remove the two screws from the AC condenser side of the RX330. Those screws are available to a two foot long one if you wanted. The front air dam opening is in line with them. They are usually quite rusty because they are exposed to the elements and in the direct line of salt and sand in the winter. Take a knee in front of any RX330 you see in a parking lot and you can see one in the left opening and one in the right. Easy peasy instead of knuckle busting with a stubby screwdriver. Just use penetrating oil, so you don't strip out the head or break off the screw when they are rusted badly.

    • @privatelisting366
      @privatelisting366 2 года назад

      @@davidbartelt2384 Yes they are, good luck and wait over night if you can with the oil. The hardest part is seeing the darn things to begin with, they are very tough to line up with anywhere but right in front of them to know where to put the tool into those slots.

    I had the same thing happen with my Dodge Ram. Plastic construction meeting steel leads to thermal strain with the dramatic swings of temp.

      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад +1

      +spelunkerd I just did a ram radiator today. It was an 02 5.9 gas engine. Wasn't too bad of a job. I'll be posting a video in the next couple days. Check back in a few days if you want a chuckle. It is coming back in a couple days for a timing cover gasket as well.

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd 8 лет назад +1

      +The Car Doctor Ya, I did a vid of that one a couple of years ago. Gotta love how much room there is in the engine compartment, but I found my back was sore from leaning over that engine. It was easier to stand inside the slot for the rad, to bolt on a new water pump, ha ha. Mine is a 5.9, too, and although I love the vehicle I sure pay the price at the gas pumps.

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 лет назад +2

      I don't think I can fit in the slot between the radiator. I'll give it a try but I may need to get a crane to pull me out if I get stuck.

    Have you ran into any issues with ordering the correct radiator? My wife's 05 330 just got a bad leak this morning. I looked a while back and didn't want to order the wrong one. I dont think it has a towing package but how do I know if it does or not other than not having a hitch? And it says made in Canada in the door. It has metal caps on the radiator. Got any suggestions on what I should order?

    • @jamesrogers4674
      @jamesrogers4674 5 лет назад +1

      I ordered one from Amazon and it fit. It said in the description made in Japan. It also said only fits Japanese made vehicles. But the seller commented that if your vehicle had an all metal radiator it would work even if its Canadian made.
      The job did take about 8 hours and I had to add some thin foam rubber between the radiator and condenser to keep them from rubbing as well as transferring bigger blocks of foam.
      I also had to sculpt a lower radiator mounting bracket from a JB weld stick because it had almost rusted away from being in contact with the highly corrosive coolant. Couldn't seem to be able to find the lower brackets in a timely manner on the weekend and after business hours.
      Hope this helps someone on this job.

    Hi. Please help me here. I took my 2007 model of RX350 Sports luxary version. After an hour or so, the mechanic called me and said that in this model the radiator is connected to the one other panel which is the part of the airconditioning unit and that he will have to get it degassed, replace the radiator and then take it for regassing. Since I trusted him, I told him that do it only if necessary. After looking at your video, i dont think any mechanic had to take that panel out which was behind the radiator. What should I do? Does the air condoning unit stays as good after taking the gas out and regassing it again? I gave him a surprise visit and took the photo of the parts he took out.

    • @ThecardoctorTV

      I don't think discharging the A/C system in your case is necessary either but that may just be how they do it there. It does make it easier to access and the extra charges shouldn't be too much.

    Что показал, как заменять, это конечно спасибо, но вопрос вот в чём, никто, никто до сих пор, так и не назвал причину течи радиатора, ведь это же Лексус, крутая машина и к тому же очень дорогая, казалось бы должно быть всё идеально, а оно - каждый год, в России, приходится менять радиатор, это ведь не серьёзно, тем более для такой машины?
