We all went to Music & Art HS when it was still on the hill at 135th St. on Saint Nicholas Terrace. We left that building in 1982-83 and that's where THIS picture was taken. Shout out to my schoolies, The Kangol Crew. 🫡
Thanks I got the hear a classic for the first time slick Rick and Dougie Fresh with the first people I had on tape that I recorded and I would listen to them all day every day. Thank you.
I remember when i was 14 teen years old coming from Brick City Newark NJ to go to the fun house i seen Dougie fresh perform one night he had a Jerry curl with glasses on and he did his famous spin on stage the crowd went crazy.. fun house Roxy aka 1018 Rose land were the 3 best clubs in the mid 80s.....
Yeah I seen Doug too with the Jerry curl white shirt suspenders on new years eve at Broadway International many many years ago I was Buggin laughing at him me n my Date while he walk pass us on the Dance floor . Hahaha
None of these beats are from any type of Jamaican genre of music. The beats are also foundational black American so was the scratching, and there is no type of Jamaican toasting or talking with microphone in your hand. that lens itself to this type of beat it’s strictly foundational, black American cope harder
One of my High School mates was apparently part of the Kangol Crew when I went to school at Satellite Acxademy on the Lower REast Side back in 1985 his name was Shelton, I recall airbrushing a character wearing Kangol with the numbers 225th at the time. Dope memories.
@@missayawk oh yeah, you're right about that. He was the first to record that bit that Duke Bootee used a few years later about "The jail is a game and it's called survival..," among others.
First time seeing a pic of The Kangol Crew..way back in the day I remeber Dana Dane said he was in a group with Slick Rick but i never heard songs by them
In 1985 I went to school at Satelite Academy (Forsyth Location on the LES) and performed this with a dude named Dave who was a rapper, his beatbox guy didn't show up at the talent show and my boy threw me into the mix and I beatboxed a routine while Dave performed. Wish I had the tape, epic stuff! SALUTE alumni!
What’s wild is I was just watching Wildstyle n they Cold crush , Fantastic 5 , Double Trouble used the same scratch n beat to rhyme over in 1982 by Flash n Grand Wizard Theadore then later came the beatbox Rockin!!!
