That man with the tamborine was a leader, in the purest sense. He took (maybe a planned) inititive and engaged the entire audience and orchestra, with the initial dancer through nothing but a tamborine. Something can be learnt from him which can help us all in our own leadership. To be enthusiastic, take inititive, be exciting and it doesnt have to be complicated to start.
Es usted un maestro Sr. Zander ¡¡ Ójala la humanidad se llene de personas que contribuyan así , para vivir en un mundo mejor. Su orquesta en este video interpreta maravillosamente. Thrilling , thank you so much.
Simply put, magnificent! Wow! Listen to the double bass parts featured. So much energy! So much excitement! So very moving! Instrumentalists playing their parts with such passion!
Bravo! I played under Ben back in the 70's, one of the greatest music educators of all time. Glad you stumbled across him, you are very fortunate. Peace.
Cold German Beer ermm... Benjamin Zander is currently the conductor of Boston symphony orchestra as well as Boston Youth Orchestra. You can watch his Masterclass too, there's a lot to learn in his masterclass.
This is my third viewing and it is just as exciting and revelatory as the first time! Takes your breath away! I do believe we can eventually have shining eyes and wealth. I would love to see what Zander could do with wealth! And fame.
Right you are!! That tempo brings it out! I usually hate fast for its own sake and especially the classical music "criterion" music that just sounds jittery to me, but this tempo is absolutely right. Beethoven is telling the story the way it is!
Enjoyed this immensely beautiful to watch and listen to also I would like to know the name of that tune they jammed away on at the very end that was amazing
Great score and performance. I was a bit let down, I'd have to dig out my old CD's, I've always heard it played at this speed. The only time it was slower would be for a tv show or movie effect/mood.
You might skip to 3 min. 30 sec where he begins conducting the Youth Orchestra of The Americas in Beethoven's 5th symphony. Yeah. That old chestnut ! But....Zander has taught them to feel the music in a fresh way and it comes out like a revelation. You never get bored or lose concentration!! it goes on to 9 minutes, 51 seconds. Try to turn off the sound before that vibration slaying applause cancels out the magic ! And look at the make up of the orchestra. Black, Asian, Hispanic ,White all in concert and focused on this one task, to make the finest music possible. What a lesson for our diversity phobic country !
@WimWintersMusician The 8th note isn't the basic note value in this piece, the half note is. It would have been more appropriate for Beethoven to have written it in a time signature of 1/2 but that was too far out there for the time. It is essentially one beat to a bar, always.
I guess all the times I have heard this, it was played at the correct speed. This doesn't sound any faster than when I have heard it before. Maybe 15 BPM faster than average, but not that noticeable. Great performance though!
your brain think is the same but actually isn't, compare both version and you'll hear. 15 BPM is a whole big difference, in this you can actually fell emotions, life, soul.
Chinese believe people have six rounds of earthy life before they get to a higher space, and for him this might be the sixth round as Ben Zander, with the forth as being Beethoven.
so you talked to him?i always wonder how peolpe think that writen music is absoulute and not as it hink a way of give you an idea or a path where to go...emotions a feelings which is on pont of timing i guess you have to find for yourself and your like!?
Beethoven, in his original papers for his symphonies, often wrote down markings where he wanted each instrument to come in and for how long. He did this with all his works.
too fast; not enough gravitas.......too glib; top-heavy----mental----where's the body. Allegro CON BRIO does not mean faster, it means "with fire" and "fire" translated as tempo only misses the weight of Beethoven's 5th.
"Peace" you say, when you just told him he's living in a fantasy world. Also, your statements are irrational and irrelevant nonsense and hold zero argument against the factual points Paul Jones states.
Paul Jones I think you are right, but however music is flexible, and he is trying to teach the young, so it’s deferent kind of doing things, and a fresh look to classical music
"Con brio" means "with spirit" - you're thinking of "con fuoco", maybe. Either way, I found plenty of fire (and spirit) in this performance, and nothing that was glib, and what Zander said about Beethoven's tempi and metronome markings was perfectly correct.
Paul Jones - So you dispute Beethoven’s marking? Allegro is the tempo marking and ‘con brio’ is the style. Allegro con brio is not singularly a tempo marking.
This is the way Beethoven should be heard! Filled with Life! Thank you, Maestro Zander!
The final piece is called "Tico Tico".
I was playing trombone in this group and I must say: what a fantastic opportunity it was!
Bravo! I played under Ben for 3 yrs at NEC in the 70's. One of the greatest music educators of all time.
what is the name of the song from minute 16:00?
I cannot get enough Benjamin Zander into my life.

I love how the bassists sway together while playing. It's like watching branches move to the wind of the music.
i havent understood classical music until this man taught me through these videos.
Jason Robustelli ❤️❤️❤️

Cold German Beer Yes, and he recently held masterclass on various instruments too. You can check them out on Boston symphony's YT channel. ^.^
Cold German Beer no, it's true. U can search him up on YT or Google or Wiki. People admired his musicality and wise words on life.
Your incomparable empathy for Ludwig Beethoven is beyond the horizons of known experience
Benjamin Zander ... Magnific as usual ... and always with shining eyes
That's one inspirational conductor. He's literally turned the whole orchestra into one-buttock players!
So refreshing to hear the 5th the way Beethoven actually intended it to be played. Bravo!
WasemNator exactly twice his speed actually!
@@123Joack Beethoven marked it as 108 beats per minute, so this was about right!
I have enjoyed this immensely and this is about my 90th time looking at this video
Same!
This is Symphony Life! I had never heard such a moving interpretation!
What a day! What a group! Los extraño!
Pure delight! Wonderful to see passion in action with such talented musicians and artists. Bravo!
Leave it to Ben Zander to find the SOUL of the music.
This is my third viewing and it is just as exciting and revelatory as the first time! Takes your breath away! I do believe we can eventually have shining eyes and wealth. I would love to see what Zander could do with wealth! And fame.

Honestly one of the best final movements of B5 I’ve ever heard! No joke . So loved
Dynamic contrast, YES! Feels like so much closer to Beethoven!
Enjoyed this immensely beautiful to watch and listen to also I would like to know the name of that tune they jammed away on at the very end that was amazing
I started learning the guitar three weeks ago, these guys make me look like an amateur. they're really really good
great brass and the whole orchestra as well.
Electric inspiration straight to the heart!

A wonderful talk inspirational

Unity brings about harmony. Each of us can contribute to unity if we think of how we can achieve harmony by focusing on our capabilities.
Tico Tico no Fubá con un uruguayo en el pandeiro!!! Eso es integración.Música de primer nivel.Felicitaciones!!!!!!!!
I recognized Nimrod, by Elgar, but what was the name of that last, jammin' piece? Love this group! Love Zander!
Tico tico no fubá, by Zequinha de Abreu
I feel like I only know this tempo. I went to listen to the "normal" version and that wasn't the tempo I knew.
This literally gave me chills 😇😇😍

can you tell me which Beethoven song that is with the 6 instruments in minutes 16. please!
It sounds just a littler faster, if at all, than most recordings I have heard of it?
Shout out to the tuba player - sitting quietly and then Tico Tico; brilliant playing and killer style 😎
That's what we do. Wait a while, play some good stuff, wait some more!
I'm booking a plane to Boston right now.

Beethoven 5th Symphony - at 20:00 is the tail-end of the 3rd Movement, heading into the 4th.
yeah, this mostly gets it, even, or especially, that hurtling and-two-and-ONE opening
can someone tell me which Beethoven song that is with the 6 in minutes 16. please!
HL FAN it's still the same piece :)
I guess all the times I have heard this, it was played at the correct speed. This doesn't sound any faster than when I have heard it before. Maybe 15 BPM faster than average, but not that noticeable.

Who knew Jeremy Clarkson was a good conductor?
Schmidty the Kid Well ‘Jeremy’ will certainly have the fastest finishing time compared to other conductors 😁
Poweeeeeerh
Where does this take place?
Scott Spiegler on your device its all an illusion scott
amazing!
This is incredible, but for me, no recording of the 5th will ever top Carlos Kleiber and the Vienna Philharmonic.
Dude, how could you possibly compare the Vienna Phil and Kleiber to a youth orchestra? Bizarre :~)
Um, I'm pretty sure he's comparing the interpretation of the symphony, not the skill level of the orchestra.
Fantastic
that bass section!
it sounds much better at this tempo
emagine that BEETHOVEN was nearly deefh >.💚💚😍😍💙💙🤩🤩💜💜
Brilliant.Ty
watch in x2 speed it's funny
Fergal Lawlor it's already 2x the speed😂😂
Well, not LITERALLY, I hope :) But I agree!
Great
I'm not expert but i think it's quite faster than normal ?!
No, it's the way Beethoven would have wanted it.
so you talked to him?i always wonder how peolpe think that writen music is absoulute and not as it hink a way of give you an idea or a path where to go...emotions a feelings which is on pont of timing i guess you have to find for yourself and your like!?

Musik Time Machine Please refer to the original score, and read it. You'll see it clearly. Thank you. :)
***** Thank you sir.

Man, it's an f-ing youth orchestra ease up. And if you think your interpretation is superior to Ben's, you're living in a fantasy world :~) Peace.

Still just as boring as when played slow
