  • Details and rules are crucial to understand when it comes to HIPAA. Are you in compliance? For example, are you keeping your HIPAA Disclosure Log?
"The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the HIPAA Privacy Rule to implement the requirements of HIPAA. The HIPAA Security Rule protects a subset of information covered by the Privacy Rule” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
This video discusses HIPAA disclosures and accounting for them properly, specifically, keeping a log of all HIPAA disclosures you have made in the last 6 years. Patients have a right to request this, and you must give it to them within 60 days. Since it is not every disclosure, things can get a bit complicated. We will unravel how this can affect you and your medical practice.
