Remember when Need For Speed games were good and actually meant for car guys? This is the game that introduced me to my dream car when I was a very little kid, the Ferrari 550 Maranello. I will never quit working on my dream until I own one and get it to 100k miles
I saw one today, a red 550. It was parked at a Toyota dealership in Adelaide, Aus. This was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

Agreed. They just don't make NFS as good as they used to.
My favorite cars from the good ol days was the Ferrari F50, CLK GTR, and the original Lamborghini Murcielago.
Forza Horizon 5 has the F50 and F50 GT, but sadly it does not have the original Murcielago or even the LP 640. I don't mind the 670 SV, but there is just something about the appearance of the OG Murcielago. And I especially wish FH5 had the actual race version of the CLK GTR and not just the street version.

A spiritual successor to hot pursuit 2 with the original nfs composers is very much overdue, sure, Gran Turismo and Forza are great, but it's time for this racing game concept to be unshelved for the new generation.

That blinkin music. Brings back soo many fond memories of playing this when I was younger. The commentator really does a crackin job. EA Canada really put alot of effort into this series right up until Hot Pursuit 2 of 2002 or there abouts then things started to go downhill.
They just don't produce games with this level of authenticity anymore. One thing I didn't always understand though is why the PC version even though it had slightly better graphics in some areas, didn't seem to be quite as high quality as an overall package as the Playstation version. I guess it was because it was done by EA Seatle but they must've been working off the same codebase yet the PC versions of these games always seemed to be real lackluster in quality. Maybe Sony had something to with it as I think they might've had the rights to the franchise for awhile and might've sponsored the development for the PS first I dunno it seems plausable since Sony have a habbit of doing that with the PS2 and several main franchises. Road Challenge (High Stakes in the US) particularly the graphics didn't look as good as the Playstation version.
Yes, it is interesting since Hot Pursuit 2 PS2 version was superior in every way comparing to pc version. Especially light effects and car renders were much better. I still love these games attention to details. But one has to wonder how in the name of god they did manage to photograph those cars. I mean like Nasca was pretty much one off car. Among other cars too. Various locations, various colors and various situations and weather... Like the Diablo SV. It is pictured in ultra rare Blue with Red SV letters, White with Red SV letters etc.

But... PC version lack of soundtrack, driving in classic era with electronic music background? That's bullshit, the menu design? embarrassingly bad, classic era golden era modern era, they're all same. The PS1 ver is much better, each era has their own music style, from dealer to garage, the menu design also has different feel for each era, I don't care about the graphic, as long it has wide variety of soundtrack that doesn't bother me
NFS 2 SE is best on PC, problem is, I still cannot get the thing to work properly, even if you can't get the pc version to work, the PSX version is better than nothing. it's still one of my favorite racers!
NFS 3 had better, fast-paced gameplay on PSX, which I really liked, the pc had good gameplay, but is sorta slow-paced leaning towards the sim crowd a bit. No doubt PC had better visuals than the PSX version.
High Stakes is the one I had mixed feelings with, both versions are great but they have their own setbacks, the PSX version had the most setbacks! The PSX version, no doubt, had better gameplay and visuals, the main ingredients for a great racing game. But they butchered the Single-player experience, Test Drive mode is pointless, Single Race mode only lets you choose the cars from career mode only, I was like "WTF?" and HP mode lets you choose any vehicle and go race, but you have to deal with the cops, I felt that EA Canada, they took one step forward and three steps back, thanks to this highly-limited solo experience. When I play racing games, I want the freedom to create my own races, experience, basically play the game my way, High Stakes on PSX falls short on this category called "Flexibility", that is why I always use a cheat device to freely choose any vehicle from the game, track, and go race, then shut it off and do it all again to get the real single race experience from NFS 3 on PSX. PC didn't have any of these problems, the game is really fun gameplay-wise and I really liked that they added NFS 3 tracks to NFS 4, that is a great addition to an already great game and in my opinion, increases the replay value. I play the PC version regularly, while on PSX, I still enjoy it, but those setbacks I mentioned irritate me, that is why I use a cheat device and pretend those problems didn't exist. Both versions are great in the end.
and for NFS 6, PS2, by far. the PC version is good, too. but the PS2 is the more superior one.

I'm currently playing High Stakes (check my channel for the let's play), I'm amazed by the graphic and raging at the same time, holy balls it's getting harder, I finished career mode on PSX (using cheat engine :P) but this the first time I'm playing on PC, legit without any cheat
@ganesan00001 NFS 5 was great! I enjoyed both versions, PC version is awesome, but the psx version was good too, it had that special feeling in the version since it was developed by Eden games, the ones who did the V-Rally series, it's a lot like V-Rally in terms of gameplay, but with porsches. Both PC and PSX were great in their own way!
Games back then was a masterpiece and they were very proud to show what they could put in games I used to play this game and I always used to think how amazing this game was and still great classic racing game to still play.

I just played the Diablo descriptioon while playing nfs payback. God, the nostalgia tkes me back to literally 8 years old.... Anyone who knows this game and Rom Di Prisco's music is a good person.

This classic sound track and the announcer should be a staple in future NFS games also bring back the slide shows and the stats just hearing about them is dull this is one game that they need to take notes from it would be good if they made one that was a mix of this, the remastered version for the current gen, and the underground series plus if it is free roam they should take some pages from the crew and let us go north to the ice roads and see how big of a wave these cars can do or for fun see how fast they knock down bowling pins and yes a sprint race to the end of an ice road would be very cool to see
