Didn't the Church Say...? Young Earth Creationism Pt. 2 - Questions with Father #43 - Fr. Robinson

- On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue our discussion from the last episode on Young Earth Creationism. As covered on the last episode, Catholics are not obligated to believe the earth or universe is 6,000 years old; it is not a question of faith. In this episode we examine more closely specific arguments which posit that young-earth-creationism and geocentricism-a description of the universe that places earth at its center-are parts of the deposit of the Faith. In so doing, Fr. Paul Robinson helps Catholics further distinguish between what the Catholic Church teaches infallibly and scientific views of creation and the world which develop over time in the light of new research.

Thank you for this podcast :) I wonder if it would be possible to do a live conversation or debate perhaps between Father Robinson and Kennedy Hall. Or at least, it might be useful to have Kennedy Hall interview Fr Robinson on his show and ask questions and such.
Thank you Father for your clear explanation. It is only our Holy Mother the Church who holds the judge of the true sense and interpretations of the Scriptures, including Genesis.
This is an absolutely excellent presentation. If the Fathers of Vatican I really had wanted to define de fide young earth creationism they could have very easily stated "Catholics are obliged to believe that the days of Genesis 1 are twenty four hour periods and that the earth is six thousand years old and anyone who says anything else let him be anathema." But of course they didn't do that.
Thank you Fr for talking about this topic in such full and complete perspectives. I appreciate it a lot! God bless you plenty!

I am undecided on the topic of the age of the universe. The only difficulty for me would be the idea that if the universe is billions of years old, then that means that animal death existed before the fall, as animals were living and dying for milions of years before humans were created. I find this hard to accept, as it would mean the suffering and death of animals is a "good" part of creation. I would love to hear Fr. Robinson's ideas on this topic if you were to make a third installament of this series.
Excellent point
Animals aren't people so it doesn't matter if they live or die, they have no intrinsic value. Hence why God allowed animal sacrifices during the old covenant. Even if animal death and decay existed before the fall, human death started with original sin.
Our Lord could have easily made a universe that appears old to the senses in an instant. Did he not make old fine wine from water in an instant?
That's certainly possible, but remember, Fr. Robinson is not arguing that the Young Earth position is wrong, but that we're not required to believe it.

Why is this being reposted? Wasn't this episode posted earlier this morning?
There was some overlapping audio in one part that made it very difficult to hear, so we fixed it. thanks!
@SSPX ah okay, I was just bit confused and it's been one of those days where I thought I listened to this already... always good content and didn't want to miss anything new! God bless and Mary keep you!
How the dinosaur bone studies from the Kobe center, those prove to be no older than 10,000 years old, are those fake? How about the revelation on the universe model God himself revealed to a saint?
Lets see how this will age.
What is your point? Fr. Robinson is saying that as of early 2024, there's no definitive Church teaching on this matter. If the Vatican promulgates a document in the future saying that the world is 6000 years old, that does not mean that we should have defined it for ourselves now.
☦️🤝✝️Dear SSPX, even though I reject the Modalist parts of your pseudo-Athanasian creed, I will gladly embrace all your Marian dogmas & Filioque (as long as it interpreted correctly) in order to heal our big Schism. I love all your Popes & I appreciate you heping them against the Modernist pressures by Trojan horses who infiltrated your Church for decades🙏❤️
Careful Lev, your arrogance is showing.
