  • On this week’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we will be answering a fairly common listener question - and one we tackled very briefly in one of our earliest episodes years ago - What should Catholics think about organ donation? Fr. Ian Palko is back to discuss this topic which, like many others we’ve talked about recently, doesn’t have an easy, clear-cut answer. It seems, on the surface, like a great gift and an extraordinary act of charity to give someone an organ so they can live. But we’ll see it’s not so simple. This is a question that touches on morality, but also relies a great deal on prudence and circumstance. Thankfully, father will guide us through these tricky points!

As a critical care nurse and OR nurse and assigned to donor/organ procurement cases….I’m concerned about truly knowing someone is truly brain dead. I’ve cared for 2 people who were expected to die once the ventilator tube was removed and they eventually walked out of the hospital. Same test performed to determine brain death for organ donors. So I don’t know🤷‍♀️

Unfortuneately Organ harvesting completely changed my mind about donating organs. Corruption through research discovering the shocking abuse in China back in 2000 was horrifying.

Most churches already have one, but if they didn’t, donating an organ would be a very generous gift. 🎶😉

Great information and very informative in the battle that we see in the modern world and the lack of seeing the sacredness of the body. Thanks Fr for this information on the tough topics

An additional point that should be noted is that they begin harvesting organs from “brain dead” persons by often administering a paralyzing med so that they don’t move 😳 but always refuse to administer pain medication! 😳 so they are aware that they are being cut into, experience the pain, but cant say anything to stop them. There are many cases of the donor patients “waking up” while the harvesting is happening. 😳 💔 they refuse to give pain meds because they dont want to damage the vital organs 💔

It's important to note that in some jurisdictions like the UK the organ donation system is opt-out and you have to do so in advance in writing otherwise you are deemed to have consented to having your organs harvested.

The whole concept of “brain death” was cooked up to facilitate organ donation. Brain death is NOT equivalent to death! Donate kidneys - fine. But most others are completely wrong.

There is big money in organ donation another reason to be skeptical of the doctor's and nurses approaching family members so aggressively to procure organs. I told my husband if I should be considered "brain dead" to say that only if he gets all of the proceeds would he agree! 😅😂🤣 I will not be an organ donor!!

it does seem modern world, is dangerous in the donor list, with its harvesting organs and with those that seem like they are dying or death as Fr. hinted. It seems the medical field can abuse this and well claim people are dead but then actually not really only for the sense of organ donating, this is my caution with my mother having the pink sticker on her DL. As we see China really pushes organ harvesting. I do see that there is certain situations that seems ok. But, seems to speed up lower health in the donor. Also, more so now in these times, blood contamination I have heard people getting sick.

What about blood donation? I know that some Catholics think it's immoral

Men use women's organs to turn themselves into... "women", so I lean on the side of NOT donating organs unless you're very specific about what you'll willing to donate.

I have always been a donor. But now I worry about someone giving my uterus to a transgender. After death, you can't say,not that one.

As this show progressed I do have a question with the growing organs And using pig parts that's also a dangerous line because That's not something made by God to be indwelling in humans I don't think that's gonna turn out to be very good..
