@@JBSpookyReview I remember the commercials and I remember the X-files (more or less, I'm really enjoying this walkthrough of yours very fun), it's just a more immersive reminiscing to have them both together.
This is the first episode I ever saw. Woke up around 1am and FOX had it playing on re-run as they used to do, 10pm then again at 1am. Anyway, I asked around and found out the show was the X-Files, good times.
It took place in the state of Washington where it rains a lot. It also rained quite a bit in that episode, with the lumber soaked it might be tough to keep a fire going. That's why Vancouver was the perfect place to film this show.
This was the very first X-Files episode I saw when it first aired back in April of 1994. I was immediately hooked, finishing out that first season. But then I had to wait to see the 19 episodes I had missed when the series moved to reruns later that summer. Unfortunately one of those episodes was interrupted half way through by FOX’s abrupt wall-to-wall live coverage of O.J. Simpson’s wacky freeway ride in the white Bronco. Damn! I didn’t see the end of that episode until the series moved into syndication years later. Always preferred the stand alone “monster of the week” episodes and “Darkness Falls” was a good one-a spooky introduction to a terrific TV show.
I would have been so annoyed if they cut off my show for some stupid celebrity. I get it was big news but still lol. I'm also more of a fan of the stand alone monster of the week stuff.
@@JBSpookyReview I was upset when my folks dragged me to a play at the Roundhouse theater in DC and made miss the first season finale. I had to go to through all the reruns the following summer to find out what happened.
Omg omg omg! Ok, so. I always get excited to talk about Darkness falls because this was the first episode i ever saw. It was in the UK, i must have been 9 and i was being allowed to stay up to watch a movie on tv and this was in before it so we watched this too and i was hooked and begged to watch the next episode next week. Of course i didnt know it would be Tooms but my God i was a lucky child that the epic Eugene Tooms would be my first x files monster! Good times man, i miss the 90's
Darkness Fall is fun. I've heard people dissing this episode which I don't get. Okay, some things don't make sense but it's still a fun episode. I love the premise and I too would be freaking out like Scully did because I hate bugs
Kind of a nice twist for the government to actually save the day for once instead of being behind the problem... Though I guess you could argue that's always the case on this show since our protagonists both work for the government.
Saw this episode when I was like three or four and because of that I am now permanently afraid of the dark I am a 33-year-old man sleeps with a night light
This was a great episode. I had heard about the show from friends who had cable (we didn't have a local FOX network at the time), and my dorky middle-school self wanted to watch a tv show about aliens and ghosts. This was the first episdoe I had really known about in detail because of a little magazine we received monthly in our reading class, whcih had a simplified synopsis/script of the episode that we read in the class. I kept that little magazine for a long time, even after we finally got a Fox network, maybe sometime during season 4.
this was the first x-files episode I saw as a kid, up too late at 1 a.m. and caught it right at the beginning as a rerun on the Syfy channel. I was intrigued by the cold open and immediately scared shitless by the opening title sequence lol it was already one of my favorite shows by the end of the episode. really enjoying these revisit videos, good job!
This is the one that gave my cousin nightmares for a while...he was about seven or eight years old at the time it was broadcasted in our post-soviet region of the world and we babysat ourselves when parents had to be somewhere else for short periods of time. Memories of good old times.
Regrettably for a second, I felt the jokes were too much in earlier episodes, but now they've hit a perfect sweet spot. And the 90's commercial halfway through is absolutely genius! This is quickly becoming my favorite channel! I'm more and more excited each time a new video gets posted.

I love this ep! A strong 'The Mist' vibe. And I really love The Mist (movie - Ive never read the book). Great video and great humor, as always! Can't wait for Eugene!
@@JBSpookyReview It stuck to the main plot points but expanded on the detail and scene setting a little more. Those series of books written from season 1 are brilliant. My favorite was 'Eve' that was so well written, quite a bit more enjoyable than the episode, which is saying a lot considering what a great one it was. take it easy man, check out those books if you can.
@@crashline I try to make them as entertaining as I can. I always worry when doing a new video that I won't come up with anything lol. As for the fire thing I meant to mention that too but completely forgot. They're literally at a logging camp. Just start fires.
Thanks again for the fantastic video and trivia! I love this episode; it’s corny but it works. You know if scully loses her cool then they’re in real danger. I love the recurring Mayday radio calls mulder and scully make throughout the series. This one in particular because you can clearly see Gillian Anderson about to break out laughing and cover her face with her hand while DD yells over the radio. It’s a great moment
Most memorable momment for me is when Scully almost takes out the light because of her fear of the bugs. By that time I'd be grabbing a flame thrower and burning the cabin down. FLAME ON KILLER FIRE FLIES! FLAME ON!
How can they run out of fuel? They're literally surrounded by a whole forest of fuel. Why didn't they build a fire? It's been a while since I saw this episode, so maybe there's a good explanation. And here's a horrible thought... if the bugs were all over them (12:33), wouldn't they also enter their bodies, through the nostrils, mouth, etc? Having swarms of bugs crawl around _inside_ you is infinitely worse
What happened to the Monkey Wrencher guy that ran off from the car towards the end of the episode?... It just showed him running of into the forest and nothing else. *Been an X-Files fan since first watching the show in 1994 aged 12/13 here in the UK. Darkness Falls is my all-time favourite 'monster of the week' episode, partly because forestry is my favourite landscape, but also of course because it's such a great little episode (with a wonderfully mysterious/bleak and fascinating ending)*
Quintessential X-files. Creepy as shit, what a horrible (and undignified) way to die. Hot take, I know: ecological themes are kinda rampant in this one. I appreciate they at least tried to show two sides of the argument. I notice that it's always with the creepy crawlies that Scully turns a believer :)
This episode is on a lot of top 10 lists compiled by serious x-filers. The sometimes unseen forces of Mother Nature waging war, or in this case, seeking revenge is always good fodder for a compelling storyline. I still remember freaking out for a split second when Scully went a bit nuts, and almost broke the light bulb. Chris Carter did a nice job slipping in commentary about logging vs. environment protection. Have to trust someone, Mulder let him go with the last of the fuel. Just a fun episode to watch, never get tired of it.
Darkness Falls is standout episode for the first season. It's the first time the agents narrowly escaped death, and they were up against something they were truly powerless to stop. The end of the episode is so bleak, too. _Can_ the government actually stop the bugs? Bear in mind, this is the same government that can't be trusted and experiments with all kinds of dangerous things to weaponize them. Who's to say they won't try to contain and weaponize the bugs instead of eradicate them? We never find out. The writing is excellent as well, not taking any one side and having both the activist and the logging security guy undone by their own foolish actions. With this episode, they hinted at their true power level. It wasn't all going to be all silly stuff like evil computers and feral women.
The evil computer & feral woman episodes were some of the best episodes from the 1st series, you don't know what you're talking about calling them "silly stuff"...🤦♂️
If they had used the radio, they would have run the gas out of the Genny faster. Also, part of the guys body was in the headlights but they wasn''t going to stop them from swarming his head.
Jason Beghe And David Duchovny went to high school together at Collegiate Prep in New York. He was the best man at DD’s wedding to Téa Leoni.
I did not know that. They really were close.
Most of the episodes from season 1-5 would not have the same atmosphere if it wasn't for the Vancouver landscape
The show really feels different once they leave for LA. It's just not the same.
