  • Do you ride an electric scooter? You need to watch this so that you know how to handle a situation where someone tells you that you can't ride somewhere!
TL;DW (but you should still watch) 👇
I got banned from bringing my electric scooter inside the mall by an employee... but this employee turned out not to BE an employee and got what was coming to them. An epic tale of what is essentially revenge... but also strangeness and lack of authority and a call with this mall's property management company and more on today's episode of... weird stuff happening to me.

This is my local mall and had a electric bike stolen from before to after. Felt bad for the owner of the e-bike . Not a very good community for me

At my dad's apartment I would bring my bike inside (because it's less likely to get stolen) and after a few times of doing it they asked me to stop bringing it in because it tracks in mud etc.. And I was like okay that sounds fair, until I was locking my bike up somewhere else and they said I could bring it inside because it can't be more dirty than a pair of shoes. And now after watching this video I'm thinking of asking the superintendent how it's more dirty than a pair of shoes.

Let me know how it goes! Saves them on parking spots and such too.

After spending an embarrassing amount of time looking for a spot to lock up my bike at the hardware store I walked in and saw a huge space for carriages and thought "why is my instinct to lock it outside?"

I've had problems at this mall and got yelled at for going to use the bathroom. There was no sign in the way, and he yelled at me to get out of the bathroom because it was closed there was so sign saying it was closed

My wife and I got eKickScooters for exactly these kind of trips. It takes to long to walk up to the shops but it feels really wasteful to drive. I've been taking mine into the Tim Hortons and other places because a lot of them don't even provide some place to lock it up if I wanted to. The owner of the Fireside Restaurant on Commissioners even insisted that we bring them inside with us while we were eating. So there are some places that 'get it'

That's AWESOME to hear!! Anything that reduces car trips is important, so I'm all for all micro mobility devices! Plus these are waaay too much fun to ride around 😜

While you had his ear you should have asked him why in this age he doesn't have proper separate entrance and exit doorways for the customers of his tenants rather than that 1970's shared automated "ExTrance"???

I don't particularly like driving to this mall but biking or scootering over there is so much fun - everytime!
Edit: except this one time 😅

Cool. So any sort of yelling from a store employee i'll just talk to their manager or store management. Pretty darn simple (I am not putting up with anyone's crap). I had a kugoo m2 last year and took it with me everywhere too. Haven't had any troubles. This year i have an Apollo Ghost 22. Wonder if staff will fuss. I usually put it in a shopping cart but it's a fair bit bigger hehe.
    Greetings from Ottawa. :)

That's totally fair! I guess I'd normally take it up with other managers but it was almost closing time and I wasn't sure if he was the building owner or something... so I thought I'd calm down and deal with it later - which I did haha!

I am in London Ontario. I kind of wish I knew what mall you’re talking about, just so if I go there, I could be prepared mentally.
I have a Brompton. It is a folding bike from the UK. I can fold it up into what I call “shopping cart mode”.
I often go to food basics, transform into shopping cart mode, go into the store and do my shopping, come out, transform into a bicycle again and head back home. I don’t even have to worry about bicycle parking!
I have received plenty of comments, from both staff and other customers in the store. All staff at the store, in fact, all staff at any store I’ve been to, have always been positive.
The only negative comment I got was from another customer at food basics the other day. Some old guy walks by me and says “now I seen everything”, in a really negative way. I didn’t say anything, I just let it go.
With my Brompton in shopping cart mode, or folded to the size of a briefcase, I’ve been to food basics, M&M meats, dentist office, pet value, shoppers drug Mart, and even white oaks mall. Never had an issue.
As for getting tire marks on the floor, when I fold my bike up, it is riding on the back tray on wheels that never touch the ground while you’re cycling. Also, with the Brompton, when folded, all the greasy parts like the chain are in the middle of the fold. So the excuse of getting grease on things or other people is not a valid complaint.
I live in a townhouse, so it is nice how it folds small so I can bring it in and it doesn’t take up any space.
For those who live in an apartment (previous commenter in this thread), where the management says don’t bring your bike in because you get wheel marks on the carpet, Brompton would be nice because you could just fold it up and carried it in like a briefcase.

I love Bromptons! The Bicycle Café loves them too 😜
This is Northland mall but I haven't had any problems ever again since this one incident with this random guy that wasn't an employee.
As you've said, I've only had positive experiences with staff! :)

bravo to standing your ground, so many bullying is happening by entitled people who think world is at their service and other people are in their way. especially drivers and car supremacist

I'm just hoping that putting this out there helps others, too! Other options need to exist outside of car-centric modes of transportation!
