former top 100 and ssl, great video. What helped me out almost the past decade of playing RL is understanding and having the mentality that it’s never just your teammates fault, if your teammate whiffed an easy save you could go back several plays before that happened to where you could’ve done something different to have prevented your teammate to be in that position. Bronze- GC3 even low mmr SSL , if you put any one of your favorite pro players in one of those lobbies, they would win 99% of the time even with “bad” teammate/s. You can always improve and do something different even if you felt like your teammate/s costed you the game. If you feel like it’s always your teammates fault, you WILL be hardstuck and be very slow at improving. Also you can find replays online of pros playing and watch their POV in any game mode and try your best to replicate and build their habits. if u make it to gc3 , I’ll be there to make sure you don’t get past that. And you will definetly run into intense ot or close games. Learning how to control your nerves even a little is huge. Also if you are tilted get off. You won't have fun playing if your angry and the odds of you going on a winstreak tilt qing is extremely low. Also amazing video bro

Underrated video! I've just noticed a lot of my mistake now. And on my good days, I realise I don't make those mistakes. However, I go into auto pilot after about 7 games. What is the best method to stay focused and to get out of ball chasing mode 😅
Honestly what works for me is laying out my thought process as I'm playing (either in my head or out loud when I'm streaming) kind of like what you'll see some other youtubers/pros doing when they record ranked videos, and also making sure you're not sleep deprived or super tired as well. If you start to autopilot after a couple of games as well you could also take a quick break too before queuing again
@5:35, the puzzle piece that made it click for me back in the days was something you touched on, but didn't highlight enough imo. Following the speed/pace of what's going on ahead of you. You can close in if the play slows down because pinches, 50s etc. will most likely not go too far away. And if it does you can still catch up to it by rotating back. Creeping up on the situation but following and paying notice to the pace and trying to sync with that type of play in situations where it slows down, and understanding/experimenting with that probably pushed me up by 1-2 ranks on its own. It's a trial and error thing you get better at with experience for sure, but replay analysis and keeping this in the back of your mind is enough for it to click with time and focus
I’m only gc1 but you addressed multiple things that give me trouble and I feel like I understand how to be a slightly better tm8 now so thank you, great vid!
I’ve made it to champ this season finally been hard stuck plat. I’ve never been a scorer but I know rotates passes clears saves etc. so my buddy started playing again and he’s really aggressive and our chemistry is really good.
Great Video and super easily explained. I am currently Champ with basically no proper rotation at all and i see how that impacts my gameplay. Imma try to implement that to rank further up
So first man is attacking but not go straight to the goal, breaking more defense and eventually you’re team will score, and second man is more defensive and supports the first man in the attack
Former gc3 , 9 year player and long time competitive coach and trainer for Rocket League here, very glad to see such concise and relevant tips to actually ranking up and earning that reward of winning rather than just guessing at what you could improve at. Pros don’t guess. They know. Fulfill your roles to be impactful in your 2v2 matches just like you would fulfill your role at your job or your relationships. That’s how a functioning mechanism works and the keys to success are found.
very helpful i like these types of videos i see ur trying different things and i gotta say whatever u do u do it excellentely i really appreciate this video especially defence 2nd man i would recommend u make more of these videos like maybe one about decision making i think i could use it keep up the great quality vids !!!
One more point that wasn't directly mentioned, that is quite crucial for the higher level and is what makes higher level players seem more in control of lower level lobbies is what I call (and comm), "Regroup/Regrouping". While the obvious point of when you are last as second man you need to stall for your first man to get back applies to this. This also goes the other way, for example: [the opponents just got both of their corner boosts and are full. You have the ball in their half with control, but you know your teammate flipped back further and is in the opposite corner.] Here is the perfect example of where you need to decide whether: you are capable of stalling the ball for your teammate to come up field with you, you are not capable of stalling thus need to bring the ball back with you or back pass, or neither are applicable and you need to concede possession to favor "regrouping" usually resulting in your teammate challenging first due to positioning. Conceding possession is never the best option here, BUT it is not the worse option. Despite it being your teammates decision to go all the way back for boost (when he could've stayed closer with 3-4 pads) you are still at fault if you rush in and the leave him in a 1v2. While you cannot control your teammates actions you can adapt to them and control the game yourself rather than letting it be out of your control.
very good point man, love this my teammate and I were kind of doing this in our GC2 games today without even thinking about it, but this is def something I'll be thinking about more tho because I feel like sometimes I end up making the wrong decision in those situations
These are pretty much identical tips to every 2v2 made in the past 3 years. But the information doesn’t change because it doesn’t need to. One of the most effective tactics is off ball rotation, most players below champ 3 are used to people rotating while still ball-side and the amount of openings you get by being FURTHER away from the ball is crazy.
@@djmintyfreshful idk I believe most 2v2 guides don’t go into as much depth on 1st man and 2nd man like this guide does or they don’t put it all together in an organized way
I can’t imagine that a c1 or below player is too bad to rank up but good enough to translate the things you said into their game. IMO things like first and second man are things you need to experience instead of trying to force it in low ranks. I am currently gc2 and already was gc3 and it just seems impossible for me to get SSL. IMO GC2 and 3 players do the exact same as an SSL just that the SSL is way more consistent in everything that he is doing. Consistency is really hard to get better at.
I still believe bits and pieces of this are still something ppl below champ can take away from the vid as a lot of ppl that were stuck in plat and diamond told me they were able to hit new peaks with the information. I agree that you do have to experience it because there's so many scenarios, but the core principles are still applicable. I agree that SSL is essentially just a more consistent GC3, and it is super difficult to be consistent at that level. That's my biggest struggle atm as someone who doesn't have time to consistently grind the game like I used to.
My only annoyance really is Team8s that come in for the pass before you actually pass. Like if I'm corner and working it towards crease and they either are being me in the damn corner or they jump for the ball when it's still right in front of me and unscorable from that angle. But then they go flying by. Ball goes to opening in crease but they aren't there and we both scrambling back helplessly as opponents score empty net. But then same player when we are down by 2 goals with 45s left is off getting our back boost in the same situation when now is the time to be riskier. Like what's it matter if we lose by 3 goals instead at this point. It's an L
bro i am on the same situation like you i can hit gc3 i am contantly at 1670+ and am trying to keep up at gc3+ and now for someone reason i cant get over from the 1620+ i cant and i dont feel like am doing something wrong i dont say that am not doing something wrong but i dont believe the problem and its getting even worse day by day and i cant do nothing else form just playing and seeing me mmr just droping down just tell me something explain why this is happening am tired fr i have play 100+ in less 2 days and i keep falling
Yessir. For some ppl it clicked right away though, while for others it didn't. It may take time, but looking at some of your replays and analyzing how you play as 1st man for a game and same thing as 2nd man for another game can help you consistently make the right decisions in your games much quicker
ive been stuck in c1 for 4 seasons 💀I don't think my mechanics are the problem because i've seen people in c2 with noticably worse mechanics than I do. They're not good mechs but it should be good enough to be get out of c1 I just literally have no brain when it comes to this game to get out of diamond 3 i could literally just ball chase or play extremely passive and boom the ball IDK how to get out of this what's the most essential thing to get out of c1
I genuinely believe the tips from this video plus the one linked in the pinned comment are enough to get you out of c1. You just have to be thinking about those things a bit more actively at first in your games rather than auto piloting. If you’re struggling with using the tips consistently, the best advice I can give is save your replays and focus in on how you’re playing 1st man and 2nd man. You’ll def notice a pattern with mistakes you’re making, and you can then focus on those mistakes in game until you eventually don’t have to think about it anymore, and it becomes 2nd nature
@@TuffPlayzBro u might have given me the secret sauce I went on a 14 game winstreak from d3 div 3 to c1 div 4 (not in one sitting) this is crazy work im 4 matches away from c2
@@TuffPlayzim 2 wins away from c2 on my main I've been on the door like 3 times now On an alt account I went from 1130 mmr to 1200 which brought my alt exactly to C2 I am C2 now ggs edit: I reached C2 on my main aswell lol
Happens in diamond, but if it's happening multiple times during the course of a match then that's where it helps to be good at solo play. As I mentioned, focus on getting the ball around their 1st man or force the 1st man into an overcommit while still keeping possession and then that's a free 1v1. Scoring consistently in the 1v1 is gonna be a lot easier if you've played a lot of 1v1 before or you utilize air dribble bumps, low 50s, or accurate and powerful flicks.
@@Dærkzy I would say so because 1s definitely helps with challenges, defense, and mechs if you decide to focus on certain mechs (even something as simple as flicks). I wouldn't only grind 1s tho because you can build some bad habits that could hurt in 2s games, which is what happened to me for a little bit. A good balance of 1s and 2s will def help
I’m C3-GC1. How do you play with someone who doesn’t rotate out ever, overcommits with 0 boost, and keeps leaving you in 2v1 situations? Or with someone who just refuses to play defense and just waits upfield cherry picking?
@@_Kakoosh Imo the key is to play closer to them. If they’re always playing upfield then you gotta still play behind them but ensure there’s not a big enough gap between you and the play to where your opponents will always have full control in the 2v1. This might force them to boom the ball into your half more instead of controlling, which could give you free possessions if you expect the boom. You may have to try and be the team that keeps the ball on the opponent half for most of the game even if it means there’s a higher chance for the other team to get counter attacks. Just make sure you aren’t overcommitting as well. The constant pressure could be another reason for the opponents to boom the ball away. If someone’s just cherry picking all you can do is boom the ball upfield any chance you get, but if their awareness is so bad to where they never get back on defense, it’s gonna be very hard to win the game. Your defense, especially your clears, will have to be very elite.
@@TuffPlayz I don’t get teammates like that often but I find it near impossible to win when I do. I usually play nervous or passive to try and compensate by keeping distance, but staying closer might work better. Just feels dangerous sometimes when they could turn back at any second. I’ll try that though thanks
@@_Kakoosh It is dangerous and risky, but leaving opponents with control of the ball and potentially getting dribbling or passing plays into it all you're looking at 1 save, then what? A free shot at net vs you? A lot of teammates just don't recover very well either, so you're better off being close to the situation and challenge. Focus on the 50s going towards wall, clearing to safe spots and rule of thumb never towards mid etc., however... It's way more important just hitting the ball at all if the net is open than great accuracy as long as you can recover and manage your boost decent enough. With boost management you can get ready for the next play, or reposition back to defend goal to take the position you originally would just be waiting for anyways. Hell, a lot of the time you have time to grab a corner boost while rotating back as well. Also, it is difficult to win with teammates like that. It is a game about consistency after all, as long as you stick to your plan and play correctly long term success will show, and one offs should be looked upon as just that... One offs and a difficult game to win, you can do replay analysis to figure out what to do differently but there is no way to read team bumps, ball steals and chasing etc. All you can do is damage control and hope for easy goals
If you're dribbling, hits the brakes to drop the ball off onto the ground then single jump as the ball is dropping so they go flying over or get a bad 50. A lot of it as well is being to make a play on the ball quickly. If you're too slow with setting up your plays, you're gonna get insta challenged often, and if you're quick with it you can get it around them and punish them very easily as long as you're paying attention to their car even before they challenge

Well said

Former gc3 , 9 year player and long time competitive coach and trainer for Rocket League here, very glad to see such concise and relevant tips to actually ranking up and earning that reward of winning rather than just guessing at what you could improve at. Pros don’t guess. They know. Fulfill your roles to be impactful in your 2v2 matches just like you would fulfill your role at your job or your relationships. This also goes the other way, for example:
[the opponents just got both of their corner boosts and are full. You have the ball in their half with control, but you know your teammate flipped back further and is in the opposite corner.]
Here is the perfect example of where you need to decide whether: you are capable of stalling the ball for your teammate to come up field with you, you are not capable of stalling thus need to bring the ball back with you or back pass, or neither are applicable and you need to concede possession to favor "regrouping" usually resulting in your teammate challenging first due to positioning. Conceding possession is never the best option here, BUT it is not the worse option. Despite it being your teammates decision to go all the way back for boost (when he could've stayed closer with 3-4 pads) you are still at fault if you rush in and the leave him in a 1v2. While you cannot control your teammates actions you can adapt to them and control the game yourself rather than letting it be out of your control.
very good point man, love this
my teammate and I were kind of doing this in our GC2 games today without even thinking about it, but this is def something I'll be thinking about more tho because I feel like sometimes I end up making the wrong decision in those situations

MIZU 🐐 OMG TY BRO
These are pretty much identical tips to every 2v2 made in the past 3 years. But the information doesn’t change because it doesn’t need to. One of the most effective tactics is off ball rotation, most players below champ 3 are used to people rotating while still ball-side and the amount of openings you get by being FURTHER away from the ball is crazy.
@@djmintyfreshful idk I believe most 2v2 guides don’t go into as much depth on 1st man and 2nd man like this guide does or they don’t put it all together in an organized way

@@aquastr1zex913 ayy let’s goo ty man
I can’t imagine that a c1 or below player is too bad to rank up but good enough to translate the things you said into their game.

It's an L

Without being as mechanical as a diamond 3 using these as a plat 3 can i finally rank up with these?
Yessir. For some ppl it clicked right away though, while for others it didn't. It may take time, but looking at some of your replays and analyzing how you play as 1st man for a game and same thing as 2nd man for another game can help you consistently make the right decisions in your games much quicker

I’m C1 this season and I’ve been bumping and demoing a lot more, and everyone gets soo pissed and it’s annoying
ive been stuck in c1 for 4 seasons 💀I don't think my mechanics are the problem because i've seen people in c2 with noticably worse mechanics than I do. They're not good mechs but it should be good enough to be get out of c1
I just literally have no brain when it comes to this game
to get out of diamond 3 i could literally just ball chase or play extremely passive and boom the ball
IDK how to get out of this what's the most essential thing to get out of c1
I genuinely believe the tips from this video plus the one linked in the pinned comment are enough to get you out of c1. You just have to be thinking about those things a bit more actively at first in your games rather than auto piloting. If you’re struggling with using the tips consistently, the best advice I can give is save your replays and focus in on how you’re playing 1st man and 2nd man. You’ll def notice a pattern with mistakes you’re making, and you can then focus on those mistakes in game until you eventually don’t have to think about it anymore, and it becomes 2nd nature

I am stuck in d3 and while I’m demoing the defence or giving an open net, my tm8 is sitting on back boost from 10 seconds ☠️
This def was helpful I’m c3 rn struggling to hit gc and im gonna try to implement the things in this video more
heck yeah dude gl on the grind you got this
@@TuffPlayzwould you say that playing 1’s is also something that would help me get better and rank up? I’m thinking I might start playing 1’s more
@@Dærkzy I would say so because 1s definitely helps with challenges, defense, and mechs if you decide to focus on certain mechs (even something as simple as flicks).
@@_Kakoosh np hopefully that works for you, but yeah it's def a lot harder to win with players like that for me as well
@@_Kakoosh It is dangerous and risky, but leaving opponents with control of the ball and potentially getting dribbling or passing plays into it all you're looking at 1 save, then what?
All you can do is damage control and hope for easy goals
bruh jumped from c1 to c3 after whatching this

Now do a vid for 3's roles and responsibilities
How do I deal with insta challenges 😢
If you're dribbling, hits the brakes to drop the ball off onto the ground then single jump as the ball is dropping so they go flying over or get a bad 50. A lot of it as well is being to make a play on the ball quickly. If you're too slow with setting up your plays, you're gonna get insta challenged often, and if you're quick with it you can get it around them and punish them very easily as long as you're paying attention to their car even before they challenge
