I think The Volcano Monsters is my favorite of the unmade Godzilla films for how very close it was to being made, with costumes made for it, shipped to Hollywood and a shooting schedule and script prepared before the company making it folded up and preproduction shut down. I honestly wish we had gotten that over the Gigantis reedit that came out 2 years after The Volcano Monsters got canned.
Following up _Shin Godzilla_ with an homage to the Champion Festival era would probably have shut up all those guys who held up Uncle Shin as some definitive Godzilla and were generally as obnoxious as Batman fans. So now I'm sad that this movie I didn't know about didn't get made.

I'm hoping Sony gives us an animated Godzilla film in spiderverse's style or something like an offshoot of it, maybe make the movie's look based on the art of the old heisei era posters. I also remember being super fucking hyped for Godzilla 2012 as a kid, especially because I'm 99% positive it was going to come out on my birthday 🤣 Do wish we got to see Deathla, sounds like a cool monster. I'm surprised we didn't get a Shin Godzilla follow-up, and I always assumed that the reason was because Toho thought it would get in the way of the Monsterverse films, that it would undermine their success.
