Just watched in your video you don't like stoicism, i'm reading the meditations right now and thought it gives great insight into human consciousness and thought that stoic practices hold a lot of value in trying to be the best person you can be at all times.

Saw your discussion with badbunny on LSF and thought you handled yourself very well, I'm just getting interested in philosophy, is the best way to learn more about philosophical topics to just read as many books as possible or is it necessary to go to school for it? Also I'd love to have conversations about philosophy but I don't have any friends who are interested in those types of conversations

It's concerning that people think he handled himself well, personally. He was talking past her, despite knowing how she was using terms from her perspective, he persisted in asserting his own usages of terms. It was a typical Wittgensteinian semantics problem that happens in pretty much every philosophical disagreement. Also he straight up lied when he suggested that it's common for quantum physicists and academic philosophers to be scientific anti-realists. Philpapers survey shows scientific anti-realism to be around 11-12% of academic philosophers, when scientific realism is 75% of academic philosophers leaning toward or accepting. Seems pretty one-sidedly in opposition to Rem and his ideas in general among his "peers" (which I think is really conceited of an undergrad in the private sector to consider actual philosophers his peers in the philosophy of science). I remember seeing a poll awhile back of scientists in general and it was something like 95% of them being scientific realist, roughly, but that one is tough. I'm sure it gets less certain among quantum physicists, but I doubt the majority are anti-realist, he never cites his claim at all. Seems like lazy anecdotes.
He basically walked into a pizza restaurant as a professional sushi chef, and was telling all the staff that were kneading dough that they don't know how to make sushi rice correctly. It was a huge non-sequitur-fest and he showed his extreme lack of maturity in the debate.

If you want to learn about philosophy though, his reading list is pretty good on /r/destiny.

Set a reasonable goal and read in short bursts. A chapter, break, second chapter, break, ect. Consistency is really important, too.

In my opinion, reading for 30-50 minutes at a time is enough. There is no need to force yourself to read on for hours unless you actually want to, just read for how ever long you feel like reading, put down the book and continue reading some other time.

    1. Less potty mouth.
    2. Check your pronunciation of Aristophanes.
    3. Milton wasn't a mediaeval poet.
    4. Erasmus criticised the Church from within.
    5. You really can't dismiss important works as garbage.
    6. Pindar was a major poet.
    7. Describing Castiglione as a sexist is anachronistic. In any case, he had a dialogue that favoured women.

Anonomous Liz I am afraid I have to disagree with you on this. I would not consider myself to be a Nietzschean, though. Yes, Plato was arguably more influential: he formed the way of our thinking in many ways. But, the Nietzschean would say, that’s not a good thing at all.
