    A little tid bit about that heavy of acidic vinegar. I work for a food manufacturing facility. We make our own vinegar... it is industrial strength vinegar. A lot of the workers will take some home here and there for weeds but a word of warning: Using it (at least, ours) on concrete will etch and deteriorate it! So if you're spraying a sidewalk, your foundation walls, etc.. it will deteriorate that concrete. Our stuff is very strong... will dissolve galvanized pipe.... so , be careful!

    I have been using this mixture with regular vinegar for the past 10 years. My neighbors all thought I was nuts, as they were and continue to use Round-Up! On a hot and sunny day, it didn’t take long until they were dead down to the root. I’m not saying this is proof I’m not nuts, but (lol) works like a charm, and is safe for the environment! I can’t understand why anyone would ever use R/U again. It is quick to mix, and as far as I can tell, an excellent natural way to go! Thanks!

      Honestly theres no need for this sort of stuff. Sprinkle some salt and lightly spray with water so it doesnt blow away, and the weeds absorb it.
      When its all dead, use a pointing trowel to clear out the joint. Then use a 3-1 DRY mix of sand/cement and use a soft brush to apply into the joints. Lightly brush the mix over the joints until level, and off the surface area, then a spray of water to create capillary action and form the mortar bond.

    I used regular vinegar for years. I upgraded to cleaning strength vinegar when I learned it existed. I hoped that would eventually eliminate the weeds for good. I didn’t know how to fill the gaps. This process brings it to a whole new level. My challenge is my 30-plus year old patio is made of very thin “bricks” more like sheets of concrete. Besides the weeds I have sandy soil pushing up. Will the caulk hold with the soil issue? Before I embark on a project that would be physically challenging for me, what do you think I can reasonably expect? I would only be able to do a few gaps at a time so it would take a while to determine the end results. Thanks.

    • @slimdude2011
      @slimdude2011 Год назад +2

      If the root of the weeds is not fully eradicated, the weeds are going to grow back regardless of which method is used. To kill weeds permanently, the roots must be killed or pulled entirely. Before you attempt to do any other repair work on your patio, it's best to take care of the weed problem first. If your patio has severely deteriorated, you may want to think about getting some estimates from a contractor or a handyman, especially if the job may be too physically challenging for you to do it yourself. It will be hard to make any determination on what's best for the job without actually seeing the patio, and the state of its condition. The estimates are free without any sale pressures nor obligations to hire, whichever option you decide to repair or replace. Also, what you can do is take photos of your patio, and go to a home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowes, Menards or whichever store is located in your area), show the pictures to a salesman and they will recommend and select a product for you, that's best for the job.

    I've been doing this for years it's my job so forget the above and..... .Rake out all the old weeds,moss etc.Rake out and loose pointing to at least 15mm depth .Sweep out all dust with brush or use a hose then leave to dry, or if you're cleaning and jet washing the slabs do so at this stage prior to pointing. Then when the joint are dry{might take days depending on weather etc..} fill with semi wet{so it just holds together not too wet} 3 or 4 parts sharp sand to 1 part cement making sure you pack it down the joint well using th side of a small pointing trowel then fill the joints right up.When almost dry use a wire brush to take off loose cement so it makes the finish level with the top of the slab - and not below like in the video above.Then stiff brush off any cement smears.The secret is as you pack down the cement mix make sure it sticks to the side of the slabs.A flush finish is better than a recessed as leaves and water won't lay in the joints like they would if the finish was a few mm below the top of the slab.Remember houses are build using sand and cement and if done right will last decades.

      Your pavers will take a definite hit, even using regular vinegar, just so you know. Cement sidewalks and driveways seem to do fine, and work well. I’m no pro, but, I would check with someone who knows before calling in between your pavers. I have never seen anyone do that, so I would check with someone who is knowledgeable about that! I believe that with expansion in the heat and contraction with the cold, it could be a disaster if caulked between each paver, though.

Someone mentioned that, they just use salt. They don’t even use the vinegar. I might try a test of that , that would be less expensive for sure.

I wonder if you boiled some water with salt before hand, let it dissolve and then mix with vinegar, would that prevent the clogging? I think so. Then I wondered how well sea salt dissolves in boiling water so I’ll try it. I’ll put some sea salt in my coffee grinder and make sure it’s finely ground and then boil in half a gallon of water and will fill the rest of sprayer to the top with this vinegar. I’m sure that’ll fix the clogging issue. Anyway, hope this suggestion helps someone.

      Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community.
      Great question, the seam between the concrete and asphalt is required to remain free of any sealant, caulk, silicone…
      It’s required to be free of all these products to allow for the required drop off. The drop off is used by the asphalt company when they are resurfacing the driveway.
      Once they reach this seam, it allows them to ever-so-carefully squeegee resurfacing applicant into this seam. This also prevents resurfacing applicant to flow or spill onto your concrete….that would be…well…not pretty…sloppy and unacceptable some may say. 😁
