Hey Fam! I am sure I will get asked how I got the image of the map as a PDF.
To do so, I went to www.google.com/maps/about/mymaps/
Create a new map. Find the location you want a screenshot of.. In the top left there are 3 dots you can click on. Click that, then go down to "Print Map". Under "Output Type" select PDF.
Once you have done that, you can download a really high resolution version of the map and load it into Motion!
Hi Dylan. Thanks for this and all lessons you post on You Tube. I've followed all the steps but I simply cannot get my map to play back in a watchable resolution. Any suggestions?
@@egilsbrutans3970 I had this issue too. I realized it was because I was just making the picture larger and now using the scale bar. Keep you picture size to 'fit' and use the Scale bar in the properties tab to make it larger
Motion is so underrated
you're such a legend for all these tutorials.
Superb tutorial Clear, to the point and no fuzz. And coincidentally exactly what I needed :)
I'm always thankful.
I love how you go straight to the point. I’ll have to use this on my next edit. Thanks so much Dylan!
This will be very useful, once I decipher how to do it. Like the new stop and you look more relaxed.
Probably the best video tutorial I’ve seen you do so far. But also the reason why I don’t use Apple Motion too much work!!! Lol, knowing me I’m gonna get it anyway eventually.
You make learning easy, and you teach purposeful actions. 👍
I have been trying to do a map animation. I understood about 80% of what you said. I need to rewatch. Can you explain how to stop the line, show a picture at a certain spot and then continue to final destination.
Hi Dylan I love all your videos I watch them all, I am stuck on a really simple task if you can help. How do adjust the number of twists/coils of a 3D Spiral or Spring? I cannot find any examples of modifying the object length in the Motion Library to increase the number of coils.
Please try a video with google maps studio showing directions a to b, thanks
Love your videos man!
Great tutorial! Helped me a lot! Thanks
Found your channel yesterday and you are the bomb! Long time editor/composer/director/handyman/many hats/ just started using the new FCP and Motion, been using FCP since it’s inception. My computer died last week, running Maverick and all the old FCP suite. You are a great teacher and your tutorials are fantastic. I will be watching all your content as I make this transition. I can say I love the new Motion, but I’m struggling with FCP, all the keyboard shortcuts for one, are gone, so that in it’s self is slowing me down. I have to unlearn the learned as master Yoda would say! Keep up the great content!😊
By a spooky coincidence, this tutorial came along when I needed it most. Thank you for that. Another excellent tutorial. Thank you for taking the time for creating it.
It's such awesome tutorial. Really well explained. Congrats! I love your channel!
I've done several of these map animations in the past in Motion, but I still learned a couple of really valuable new techniques here. Thanks man!
Like that I was working on a project with a map yesterday this idea will improve it I will give it a try
I have seen a couple of your videos doing this very thing and it makes my decision much easier to consider. I ride a touring motorcycle and take a LOT of still pictures. I would very much like to add a similar route movie. I would like to be able to use the GPX file or a KML file that I used to follow or navigate the route. Is is possible to use one of those file types and convert it to a Bezier line rather than crudely redrawing it point to point. The point to point approach is fine for short trips but I am talking about three to four hundred miles day trips. Thank you. I could even send you sample files if it will help.
Great quick tips as usual. Good to run into you at NAB this week as well.
That map is not too far from our house :)
I need to learn how to use Motion in more depth, or should I say at all! Thanks for the tutorial
nate
Your explanations are very direct and clear, thanks a lot for that! I'm trying to make my framer follow two different paths, but at the end of the first one, it just sticks and doesn't follow the subsequent path... Any suggestions? I have 2 path behaviors on my framer, each with different non-overlapping sections on the timeline. [Edit: Oh, I see-- you never answer questions in comments] [Edit to edit: Yes, in fact, @TheFinalCutBro does answer questions!]
Haha I do indeed answer questions in the comments! But I can’t get to all of them. I get close to 100 comments a day across all my videos, so it has become quite difficult to respond to every one of them.
That said, if you want the camera to follow a different path, you would need to add a second framer, and a second rectangle to follow the movements. Hope that helps!
@@TheFinalCutBro wow, thanks for the answer! Just got motion and I’m thinking about joining your Patreon. You have a concise way of communicating, thanks again! 👍
Valuable, appreciated and almost convinced me, I could do this. I send thanks
Hi Dylan, I love your channel!
With each of your videos, I learn a lot. 👍
Short and concise, everything important is explained. Grandiose!
On my small RUclips channel with bike tours, I have already been able to rebuild some of your route animations according to your Apple Motion tutorials and integrate them impressively in my videos. Thanks for it! 🤗
I would like to combine the 3D effect and depth of field from the video "Rings of Power Map Motion Graphics in Apple Motion!" with this Tutorial with the tracking of the Bezier curve.
This is just as a suggestion for another video from you!
Many greetings from Hamburg, Germany, Matthias
Thankyou, Dylan
I would love to see property lines tutorial! The only thing I can find is motion VFX plugin and its more expensive than FCPX lol
I ride a Touring motorcycle and constantly create routes in the GPX format. I can also convert them to KML to be seen in Google Earth. Is is possible to convert one of these formats to the Bezier Line rather than redrawing it?
Thank you very much.
How in hell can you come up with all of this ? xD
Bought Motion 1 month ago. I should get on it someday!
This is exactly what I need :-). More Apple Motion map tutorials! There are tons on RUclips for Ae but almost none for Apple Motion, which is just as capable for this.
Question, would this still work if we make a 3d camera and rotate a bit on the x-axis, like you showed in the lotr map video?
I love your stuff Dylan, keep them coming!
Hey, how did you important the map as a PDF, I’ve been having to screenshot maps/locations and import the screenshot but as you can imaging the quality drops whenever I zoom in, would really like to know how to import a location/map as a PDF to help this
Import the PDF, then at the top of the layers tab you’ll see a “media” tab. Click on that and you should see your pdf in there. Select the PDF then on the left side under the inspector, go into the media tab. In there you’ll see a checkbox for “fixed resolution” go ahead and uncheck that and you should be set!
Helpful tutorial as always, Dylan! You always make it seem effortless. But, your map animation is far from reality: everyone knows you can't move that quickly through Portland these days because (sadly) of all the homeless camps!☺
Is this motion project available on patron?
I hadn’t put it on Patreon, but I’d be more than happy to if you would find it useful!
@@TheFinalCutBro yeah, that would be epic, I love paying around with projects. It’s another way of learning for me. 😁
†his looks amazing and thanks for sharing. It gives me so much inspiration for when I plan a travel video.
Bro, I hope you're not living in Portland.
