I am going to watch every video, the Hippo is one of my favorite openings, and it's so helpful to see all the different ways the Hippo game can break open, and how someone as good as you handles the different situations. I felt like I was too bad to play the Hippo, but this is inspiring me to still have fun with the Hippo, and it's possibilities. Thanks for this great series. I greatly enjoying Aman's English series too, you guys are funny and entertaining.

Thanks Eric, this is the most entertaining speedrun I've seen. I'm now hooked on playing the Hippo. I've been using it against the chessbots and I've reached Ali (1400) up to now.
These series are so good! Probably best way to learn an opening, after viewing amads london speed run I learned a ton about playing D4 in general. Now I feel like I could legit play this and be confident

At the suggestion of this series, I’ve been playing the hippo quite a bit in Bullet and had some great results! People always push so many pawns and get ancy trying to crack the hippo and make blunders as a result. Thanks for making the series Eric!
I went full modern def (w levy's course as well) about 4 months ago. Switched to Hippo for bullet and am quite pleased. Thankyou EH!

Also I've been playing the hippo in a side account and yeah, lots of blunders from oponents but I also get toasted like 40% of the time. So it's double edged.

41:45 It looks good to play Nb4. At the same time as the fork threat, attack the queen and catch the rook even if the bishop is caught.A queen d1 makes the bishop secure the diagonal
48:12 im a noob and didnt find your move bishop to c1 but i found night to d4 and after night takes d4 bishop takes d4 and traps the queen. if he doesnt take with knight you can still harrass the queen but have a knight already evolved. did i miss something?
Nd4 isn’t completely winning if black finds Nxf4, after Bf3 Nxd4, Bxd4, Qxe4, Bxe4, Bxe4+.
After that exchange white has a Queen for a knight, a bishop, and a pawn. It’s still winning but only slightly compared to being up a queen for a piece. If black is anything under 2000 they probably wouldn’t find that line but even if they didn’t find that line they would probably find the more obvious line:
Nd4, Nxd4, Bxd4, Qxe4, Bxe4, Bxe4+.
After that line white is up a queen for 2 pieces, which is better by a pawn, but is still worse than Bc1 which immediately traps the queen and forces a queen for a piece trade.

I think that you should play with odds. Begin without a Knight and you will get one for free very soon, maintaining the balance. Hippos love eating horses.

It might be just me, but I have way more success with this as black then the Caro Kann. Caro Kann advance is wayyyy harder to play against then anything Hippo attacks me with.
