LYRICS
Sweet Baby James by James Taylor
There is a young cowboy, he lives on the range
His horse and his cattle are his only companions
He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons
Waiting for summer, his pastures to change
And as the moon rises, he sits by his fire
Thinkin' about women and glasses of beer
Reclosing his eyes as the doggies retire
He sings out a song which is soft, but it's clear
As if maybe someone could hear
Goodnight, you moonlight ladies
Rockabye, sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams?
And rockabye, sweet baby James
Now, the first of December was covered with snow
So was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
Though the Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frostin'
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway
A song that they sing when they take to the sea
Song that they sing of their home in the sky
Maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep
But singing works just fine for me
So goodnight, you moonlight ladies
Rockabye, sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams?
And rockabye, sweet baby James

I’ve been listening to this great song , my favorite of all time , for over 50 years, never tire of listening to it , and always puts me in a very peaceful state of mind … thank you James ❤️
My husband passed away this spring. Every time I hear James Taylor I remember all the wonderful times we and our family hear him at Tanglewood. At Al's memorial service we had some of your music playing. Thank you so much for giving us wonderful memories.
James Taylor is the greatest songwriter. His songs will always be present in every generation. They are about the common stories we all live and we all have inside ourselves. What an artist.
James Taylor is not just a great musician, he’s also a great storyteller, both funny and serious, and he’s a National Treasure. He’s my favorite male singer/performer from the Baby Boomer Generation. Thank you James for bringing so much joy and comfort to my life. Wishing you many more years of success, good health and happiness
I love hearing the stories behind the songs - James is a good story-teller in both song and speech!
What a special gift to “ Baby James” . You include the special ones in your life - we love it ! Thank you JT !
What a great song! Heard 1000's of times and it never gets old.
I've loved this song for over 50 years... and I still love it!
Still get the chills and time just stand still when I hear JT perform this and so many of his warm, heartfelt and timeless tunes. What a gift his music is.
James, you may not realize this, but you and I have sung countless duets throughout the decades, and this is one of them. You inspire me to sing. 🎶
I have no words to adequately convey how in awe I am of your talent.
You and I met in 1967 before your performance at McCormick Place in Chicago. You were so kind to me as the 21-year-old girl that I was gushed that “I listen to your music wherever I go.” Thank you for that.
Now we find ourselves 56 years down the road in our life’s journey, but one thing has not changed, and that is my enjoyment of the music you create.
~Love from Iowa~

Vocal off the charts good. One of the best versions.
Absolutely agree, and a lot of fun.
I closed my eyes and really listened to the guitar. Hypnotic.
The acoustics are so good on this version. His voice and guitar blend together in perfect harmony. I never tire of hearing this sweet song and haven't since I heard it when it was first released and I was a young man ❤.
Classic JT! Truly one of the finest artist ever! A true American icon! Bravo James!
Good morning. When it comes to starting your weekend, there is no better way than James Taylor !
I used to sing this to my kids when they were little at bedtime, and now i sing it to my grandkids. Thank you for all your wonderful music that has made our lives happier.
I've loved that song since I first heard it in high school (50th reunion this weekend). It gets better every time. So nice to have the back story.
My high school 50th reunion next week also. They say they've hired a DJ and I'm afraid there will be more Build Me Up Buttercup than James Taylor. I've loved The Beatles and James Taylor for a very long time.
Another brilliant reverb-graced version of one of James' greatest songs...
Amazing voice Mr. Taylor.
Quelle belle personne avec un talent incroyable!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤for opening up this beautiful space to share with your fans.😊
Ahh yes.........so mellow and smooth. Thank you James, love the song and it's story. Your description of how it came to be even more so.
Hands down this is the best James Taylor version he did of his own song!

A American treasure
My favorite artist of all time ❤
Oh Thank you as deep as I can say it THANK YOU
This has always been one of my favorite songs. It ,too, was a lullaby I sang to my daughter in 1975!! I also sang it to my granddaughter in 2005. If I am blessed enough to see a great-grandchildren I will sing it to them as well!!! Absolutely beautiful song!!!
James Taylor ♥️♥️👏👏👏👏👏
Linda música!!♥️♥️♥️👏👏👏🙏
Fantastic
Amo demais!!!!❤❤❤
What an incredibly full and beautiful sound on the guitar! Voice is so lovely and effortless. Love the rhyming scheme (canyon-companion, Boston- frostin) Such a wonderful composition and a great performance. Perhaps unfortunately, so many JT fans are hung up only on his great earlier albums and hits from the early 70's and maybe haven't heard the even more fantastic albums he's released since the late 80's, 90's and 2000's, like "October Road", "New Moon Shine" ,"Never Die Young" and "Hourglass". Songs like "Mean Old Man", "Caroline I See You", "Shed a Little Light", "Valentine's Day", "Gaia", and particularly, "The Frozen Man" are some of his greatest compositions. If you like JT but haven't heard some of these later albums, I strongly recommend checking them out. James Taylor is a national treasure.
Best version of this song! Incredible!
This is one of my favorites. This performance touches my heart. I feel so blessed that I have been able to see you in concert. I feel peaceful and serene when I listen to you. Love and Peace to you always, James. ✌️🎶💙

Highlight of my day, thank you again, James! Much love, Andrea 🥰
Very nice!
Always, always love your music! I bought your book for my grandson, who’s middle name is James. 💗
IMHO, there isn't a bad JT song. I've been a fan since a fellow church youth member brought along JT's Sweet Baby James album on our church retreat, playing the album on a portable record player on the bus trip. (Thanks, Jay Carter!) I've been hooked on James's music ever since!
I used to rock my baby grandson Tyler James to this song 🎵 ❤
⚓️ Thanks James 🌈
I saw you live in Sydney and fell in love with your beautiful songs ❤

LEGGENDA 👑👑👑
Fabulous guitar work too.
Was a time, we were young and the world was new.
Superb as always! My brother saw James live at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island,NY and loved it!
His voice is his band. I’m a huge fan.
Nice
I've known the story of first part for a long time, but not the second part. Visiting Arlo... perfect.
I'll always love James Taylor's singing voice. But no one should own "cattle" for slaughter.
Cords please
Ammmmooooo dimaissss
So odd hearing cowboy sentiments from east coast people. It’s thousand of miles away. You’d have ran aground on the west coast if you were a cowboy.
