    今まで聴いたどの演奏よりも、技術的にも音楽的にも素晴らしかったです。これほどの難曲は聴く側も疲れますが、この方の演奏は心から楽しめました。

There's nothing like a bit of time to give one balance on criticism. I've had 3 years since my lat comment and now I can hear clearly...Frank Dupree's performance is a masterpiece.

they say this piece is where Schumann started experiencing problems with his right hand, leading to that gizmo he made to strengthen that hand which ended up permanently damaging that hand....whoo! awesome piece though and HARD to play.

Very fine performance of a tremendously challenging piano piece. You do not fatigue at all at the octaves at 2:05. Very impressive as much for technique as interpretation. This deserves many more views than it has thus far received. Thanks for sharing!

The only recording/performance that I've heard that gives Sviatoslav Richter competition. WOW

sehr gut gespielt, ABER: schade bei dem Fugenteil, dass die einzelnen Stimmen in zuviel Pedal verloren gehen. Sehr gut hingegen der Schluss, alles schön zu hören.

I love the way you conclude this piece - and everything that precedes it, needless to say! It's a shame the recorded sound is a little harsh, with some ringing distortion on the keys around middle C (and elsewhere, eg at 2.15)?

+Q DUKE "NICE" is far too mld a word for it. "GLORIOUS" would be closer to the truth. "SUPERB" might describe it even more accurately. In a world already filled to overflowing with marvellous virtuosi this young man deserves to be ranked among the very best.

After hearing Frank in the Brahms Piano Quintet I was hooked, and have been searching for additional posts. This was a very pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the Toccata very much. Thanks for your uploads!!!

WOW! What a SUPERB rendition! Your playing ranks with the greatest of the great virtuosi -- and frankly your playing is better than a few of those I could name.
Where do you come from, and where have you been? If your Beethoven is anywhere near as good as this, you've made a fan for life in me.

how does one handle the "tenths" that are written for the left hand in this piece?

    • @dimbopsah2066
      @dimbopsah2066 4 года назад

There are more than just tenths in the left hand. There are sixteenths. The tenths are something that a professional has long since mastered, either taking them whole if they have large hands or rolling them very, very rapidly if they have smaller hands. At this toccata's tempo, it is simply a technical challenge that the pianist must deal with on his or her own. In the case of the sixteenth that Schumann writes in those cadences you can look at it three ways. You can either try to roll them, though it's nearly impossible at this tempo; adjust the chords as discretely as possible; or consider say the C that begins the lyrical left-hand melody as an "implied note", one to be heard in the head if not on the piano itself, something that Schumann occasionally did in other pieces.

Too fast. But most importantly it ends well.

  • @michelprimeau4531

Sorry, but that piece is too ugly for the level of difficulty. Nonetheless, kudo to the pianist. Insane amount of pratice there.
