  • In this video I talk about drawing this artwork of Conquest from Invincible and then flipping the art to see the flaws. I tend to skew parts of the work or misalign certain things like the eyes. I can't always see the flaws as good as I wish I could but by sharing the art and being open to honest feedback we can all learn and grow faster.
It's not always easy to hear criticism on the art that you love to create and it won't always be given in an empathetic way. Don't let that bother you but instead take what you need from it. Focus on the good suggestions and go to back to the drawing board. Over time you will master the things that once we're difficult for you to see.
What ways you get spot the mistakes within your own work? Do you struggle with constructive criticism? Comment below so we can all learn together!

I was looking at your other videos and thinking how much your art-style would fit invincibles style but now this video confirms I was right

Love hearing your thoughts on these things. You're absolutely not alone in getting discouraged, especially if it's something you can't even tell when you're doing it! Really hard to fix if you can't see it. Note, I didn't see it even after you flipped it, but I don't have a very educated eye.

That conquest is freaking awesome love your style and have been looking for a conquest drawing for a while now. I love how you draw those characters who people rarely see but are always a sight to see.

In addition to just checking your flipped image, another option is to draw it flipped. Meaning rough it out like normal, but then flip the layout and pencil it flipped. This forces you out of you r comfort zone and puts you in learning mode. Then flip back, make corrections and ink it. Great vid!

Hey Rob! I struggle with the same stuff. I wont see a mistake till i flip it... or sometimes i just cant figure out whats wrong with it. I didnt notice the bicep until you mentioned it. I think the problem with the left shoulder/arm is its just turned inward too much...and the other one isnt. So yeah I miss stuff alot too. When i first started drawing, i didnt even know how to spot my mistakes. And even once i learned how to see them, i didnt know how to fix them. I was afraid of erasing cause i didnt know if id be able to redraw it. Dont feel bad. I did a drawing the other night and it really sucked and I was really feeling down about it. Keep going!

You already have the tools you need in your mind to be your best teacher and reach your own personal goals. Dont chase goals or obstacles that other people place on you. Do not let their expectations hinder you. You can best achieve your own sucess through personal reflection.

Nothing wrong with making mistakes because then you see how you can fix it for the next time.
Now imagine yourself being a Tattoo Artist to Which I know plenty 😂 their critical, because it's on your skin for life & even they make mistakes. 😉

In my experience I enjoy harsh criticism. I'm a big believer in proving people wrong due to my competitive nature. When I show people my work I tell them to only give me feedback on what they think can be better. Don't say what looks good. I hate an ass kisser. I don't need your comforting words to make me feel better. Tell me how I can be better and when the times comes for me to ask once more, " Tell me what you think can be better." And the room is dead silent. Bingo.
I wanna be so good that even if you can't stand the fact that I exist you still have to say " He can draw his ass off though". Heck the only reason I subscribed to your channel is because I consider you to be better than me. It would take me much longer to do the exact same thing as you. If you can create at X level and at X speed than why can't I? I hate that feeling so I absorb everything I can from your channel and others like it.
To clarify because I know someone will be confused. I'm not competing with other artists directly. It's more of a you do what you do better than I do what I do. It looks easy for you. I need to be better because it's possible if you are.

I struggle with symmetry and seeing my work more objectively, so I can spot the errors. Still, this is impressive work and I'm already thinking how I can implement your suggestions in improving my own drawings. Thank you.

To any1 that listens to this video. If I may just give some friendly advice: I have a college education in psychology and know that it has a deep impact on everything we do both consciously and subconsciously. This definitely includes drawing as we are focused on just the directives from our mind before n during the drawing. So... Any comments or criticism received, have a way of "sticking" in our subconscious and influencing our performance whether we realize it or not.

In my opinion, the proportions are bit harder to nail on arms/legs, when you're missing a large portion of it. I wonder if you drew more of the figure (draw smaller) That you would have missed it. You could try this hypothesis out digitally.
