He was named after a famous thought experiment by Edwin Schrödinger meant to explain an aspect of quantum mechanics. Basically, it goes like this: a cat is in a sealed box with a tiny bit of radioactive material, so small that if left alone for one hour, the radioactive material might decay, killing the cat with radiation poisoning, or it might not. Since there is no way to tell whether the cat is alive or dead while the box is still sealed, until the box is opened, the cat exists in a quantum state where it is both alive _and_ dead. Schrödinger (the Hellsing character) similarly exists in a state of both existence and nonexistence.

Oh yeah I remember these silent hill episodes they were really funny especially the evil dead joke because that was really funny back in the day and still funny till this day at least in my opinion.
These are hands down some of my favorite reviews you've ever done. Honestly there could have been potential with these stories but with the poor artwork, dumb protagonists and Christabella it just didn't make for good series of books.
Ah, the ol' Silent Hill comics. I think this is the only "bad" comic that I've bought specifically after seeing it on this show. In fact, I can see the omnibus collection of it on my shelf right from where I'm sitting watching this video. I guess it was just something so bad I needed to experience it for myself. It doesn't have Hunger, of course, but otherwise I guess that makes this video the review of the omnibus, in a way~

If I can sum up why these comics don't work in a single sentence, it'd be this: silent hill is an ambigious, abstract horror with unknown aims and machinations, and these comics fail because they try to give the town concrete rules and goals.
It's worse than that. I'm firmly of the belief that you can keep your rules hidden and not necessarily share them with your audience, but you have to abide by them yourself. You have to establish, for yourself, what is and isn't possible, and only go beyond when necessary. It can add to the tasty questions of the audience discussion when things _aren't_ overtly defined; I love horror stories like The Thing where there are things you can grasp at, but you have to decide for yourself what's actually going on in places. With these comics, the issue is not only is there an effort to remove abstraction, but to put said "concrete rules and goals" front and center, presenting them directly to the audience as bluntly as possible. With this, horror and tension is removed from the presentation of the story, and it's fundamentally less engaging as a result, _especially_ when coming from the games, where balanced abstraction is king.
Shame we haven’t gotten a proper Silent Hill since Downpour. I actually really liked Downpour, much better than Homecoming Well we almost did get a new game but Konami messed that up and it never came to fruition
Konami messed it up due to the bitter fallout with Hideo Kojima. Made no better by the fact that they shifted their focus onto mobile gaming mostly due to changing trends and expensive game development.

I've only ever really played Silent Hill Origins and I ended up having to quit because I was fighting a boss that had to be taken down via guns or else you die really quickly and I had no ammo in my inventory.
I too got into Silent Hill via walkthroughs & such, along with Clock Tower & similar franchises. Those were the games that got me into horror movies & intern inspired to make horror movies. Its a great horror franchise with interesting concepts, lore & mythos. There is a lot to love, be fascinated & yes even horrified by the franchise that is Silent Hill.
Hey Linkara, if you like horror, especially games, then I suggest you check out the horror trilogy, Devil Came Through Here, developed by Harvester Games. Basic point and click games, mostly, but they are terrifying.
Do you think these would've totally redeemed themselves if it all ended with Christabella being ripped apart in the same fashion as that guy from Day of The Dead?
The idea of several dirt bags coming to Silent Hill at once has some merit. Seeing how the town changes its MO, or doesn't could be rather interesting. Possibly see how the town handles a token good soul amidst several rotten ones. If well told, it could offer compelling insight into the hell town, adding new questions or giving satisfying answers to replace some of the mysteries. The key words being, "If well told," and I don't trust a lot of people to pull it off period.

I like to keep at least ONE theme song for the whole thing, so it's fun to have it be the one attached to the first video of the compilation - I don't really get any use out of old versions of the theme otherwise.

Couple of things that I may have posted on the original videos: 1) Vietnam is one Asian country where people wear white when a death occurs in their family (learned that from an episode of the original MacGyver). 2) Chris (Keris) knives are sometimes known as "soul stealing" knvives, especially the ones with poisoned blades (learned that from a Tom Clancy novel).
Thanks to these reviews and your LongBox of the Damned videos I own the only 3 good Silent Hill comics, I would not have bought them only knowing about these issues...and how much they suck
I mean…. That’s not what shrodingers cat was meant to show, from what I recall (and I’m no expert) it was meant to showcase the problems of applying quantum superpositions (a real thing btw) on macroscopic objects… or something…
Sure, it looks like it’s supposed to be lovecraftian horror, but… it’s _bad_ lovecraftian horror. The horror of a cthulu is never really about how many planets it can crush by blinking or whatever. You’re not _supposed_ to tell multi-part epics with it. Kind of like what you said about silent hill, it’s _supposed_ to be about the sheer uncaring, vaguely disgusted indifference of the world around you. It’s supposed to be isolating and alienating.
I'm sure your long time fans love your dramatic flare and such, personally I was looking just for the comics. Cheers to your enthusiasm however I do find it very entertaining just not for comic reading, you'd be good for gaming.
Closing thoughts: hey, at least there's _something_ in this franchise with a female protag, even if there's still drastic underrepresentation, or the messages and themes of her own game are undervalued. It certainly beats, say, a certain _other_ long-running Konami franchise - one that's never stopped - with a significantly _worse_ reputation with women...
Headcanon: this is actually a great Silent Hill comic series... because it is actually a comic book version of the town, not the game's world. See how Linkara's wish for a good, or at least ok, comic related to the game's story is twisted by how it evades him and slowly drives him insane?

I like the Silent Hill games and the second one is one of my favorites now there will be a remake of the Silent Hill 2 game . Konami is still working out details we don't know when what new story they have or it will be released .

I remember when I first found Linkara's content and would binge series of his videos over and over like the Silent Hill comics or Whizz Kids or All Star Batman and Robin or Marville or Power Rangers history or what have you but they'd have to be in playlists if they were on RUclips, so compilations like these would have been insanely helpful back then but still, better late than never. 😅
I really love the silent hill series and also love the silent hill reviews on AT4W as well. I'm guessing it will only be a matter of time when the thing from another world and nightmare on elm street series gets their all in one videos in the future as well.
All we need now is for Linkara to release an all-in-one of his Hellraiser franchise and nearly all of his Halloween reviews will be up in longform videos just in time for October. Which is honestly a really smart strategy. Between them and all three of his shows focusing on The Ring franchise, the watchtime and search relevency for his channel next month will be great.

Not going to lie to ya Linkara, you really push yourself to your limits when it comes to this show. It wasn't the Silent Hill comics that got me into enjoying what to do, it was your Secret Origins stuff. But hey, seeing these shows how far you've come and how you will continue to keep on improving and entertaining. And yeah, we haven't had a good Silent Hill in like ever. I will say that yeah, Konami dropped the ball with the franchise hard. Fuck Konami. Keep it up man. I know you won't disappoint us.

Rewatching these videos makes me realize that Scott Ciencin understands Silent Hill about as well as Paul W.S. Anderson understands Resident Evil. In fact, you could consider the Silent Hill comics the comic equivalent of the live-action Resident Evil movies. Also, we can add terrible continuity between entries as another thing they share together.
The main issue is that he doesn't get the psychological horror of SH, much like how the more recent games interpreted it. Nowadays it feels like Silent Hill is thought of for its blood and guts by the mainstream, when it was never about the outright horror.
It's a shame. Among the Damned actually gives a great backstory/setup that could turn Silent Hill from a psychological horror into an action horror story halfway through with a really great insight into dealing with soldier PTSD through the lense of personal demons.
Yeah. Like a slightly slower and somewhat reeled in version of Resident Evil 4. Could even have some interesting set-ups to possible advancements in arsenal. Like a battered AR-16 with the firing mode stuck at semi-auto, with the character thinking (when examining the thing) if there was some way to fix it. Could also throw a couple of Eternal Darkness sytle curveballs, where you don't even know what to really trust, as if the guy's overall mental health was starting to deteriorate, the more he starts to try fighting his way through the town.
The Silent Hill reviews are some of my favorites. I got Sinners Reward years ago because of your recommendation and to spite all the other horrible Silent Hill comics. I'm really hoping you'll do a compilation of all the anniversary/hundreth episode reviews.
You mention that the first comic's cover has a weird half and half look, half artsy painting, half unfinished sketch... I can actually kinda picture a video games story using that as a premise: An art gallery painting protagonist has to stop their fellow paintings being undone, destroyed and erased from existence before it's too late and one of the bad endings is something like that cover, where the main hero is trying to run away from the erasure but collapses and it overcomes them, reducing them slowly and painfully to nothingness as they let out a quickly hushed scream.
I wonder why Linkara has such a dislike for Hardee's food. I enjoy their biscuits and my mom gets food from there every now and then, with her recently introducing me to their chocolate milkshakes which coincidentally I had the other day along with said biscuits. The only thing I can think of is that the Hardee's where he's been to serve crappy food compared to the one near where I live. Though I do agree with Linkara's dislike of Dr. Pepper as I never did like the taste of it myself.

Thanks to these reviews and your LongBox of the Damned videos I own the only 3 good Silent Hill comics, I would not have bought them only knowing about these issues...and how much they suck

Sure, it looks like it’s supposed to be lovecraftian horror, but… it’s _bad_ lovecraftian horror. The horror of a cthulu is never really about how many planets it can crush by blinking or whatever. You’re not _supposed_ to tell multi-part epics with it. Kind of like what you said about silent hill, it’s _supposed_ to be about the sheer uncaring, vaguely disgusted indifference of the world around you. It’s supposed to be isolating and alienating.
It sucks losing that intro for the video for issues 3 and 4 cause it was amazing but i get it

I'm sure your long time fans love your dramatic flare and such, personally I was looking just for the comics. Cheers to your enthusiasm however I do find it very entertaining just not for comic reading, you'd be good for gaming.
Closing thoughts: hey, at least there's _something_ in this franchise with a female protag, even if there's still drastic underrepresentation, or the messages and themes of her own game are undervalued. It certainly beats, say, a certain _other_ long-running Konami franchise - one that's never stopped - with a significantly _worse_ reputation with women...

Headcanon: this is actually a great Silent Hill comic series... because it is actually a comic book version of the town, not the game's world.
See how Linkara's wish for a good, or at least ok, comic related to the game's story is twisted by how it evades him and slowly drives him insane?
problem is it´s not even good in that regard because Cristabella and Wately are there to speak for the own and they´re nothing but annoying
flushed away paper with ink stories on them and is what happened to every single comic that sucked like the Madea character .
I like the Silent Hill games and the second one is one of my favorites now there will be a remake of the Silent Hill 2 game .
Konami is still working out details we don't know when what new story they have or it will be released .

I played silent hill games 2,3,4,5,6 as they came out. I didn't really care for the comics either. I'm not sure what happened but they were horrible
My goodness, dead and alive is needlessly edgy by the way the characters speak and motivation.
Holy crap that first comic dying inside? Was completely and totally too ugly to look at and hard to decipher.
Hope this gets to you, the effect that happens around 1:41:00 is a bit of a seizure risk for people with epilepsy.

I remember when I first found Linkara's content and would binge series of his videos over and over like the Silent Hill comics or Whizz Kids or All Star Batman and Robin or Marville or Power Rangers history or what have you but they'd have to be in playlists if they were on RUclips, so compilations like these would have been insanely helpful back then but still, better late than never. 😅

I really love the silent hill series and also love the silent hill reviews on AT4W as well. I'm guessing it will only be a matter of time when the thing from another world and nightmare on elm street series gets their all in one videos in the future as well.
All we need now is for Linkara to release an all-in-one of his Hellraiser franchise and nearly all of his Halloween reviews will be up in longform videos just in time for October. Which is honestly a really smart strategy. Between them and all three of his shows focusing on The Ring franchise, the watchtime and search relevency for his channel next month will be great.

Not going to lie to ya Linkara, you really push yourself to your limits when it comes to this show. It wasn't the Silent Hill comics that got me into enjoying what to do, it was your Secret Origins stuff. But hey, seeing these shows how far you've come and how you will continue to keep on improving and entertaining.
And yeah, we haven't had a good Silent Hill in like ever. I will say that yeah, Konami dropped the ball with the franchise hard. Fuck Konami. Keep it up man. I know you won't disappoint us.

Rewatching these videos makes me realize that Scott Ciencin understands Silent Hill about as well as Paul W.S. Anderson understands Resident Evil.
In fact, you could consider the Silent Hill comics the comic equivalent of the live-action Resident Evil movies.
Also, we can add terrible continuity between entries as another thing they share together.
I feel like that's actually insulting to the RE films. At least the movies had Mila Jovovich.

The main issue is that he doesn't get the psychological horror of SH, much like how the more recent games interpreted it. Nowadays it feels like Silent Hill is thought of for its blood and guts by the mainstream, when it was never about the outright horror.
It's a shame. Among the Damned actually gives a great backstory/setup that could turn Silent Hill from a psychological horror into an action horror story halfway through with a really great insight into dealing with soldier PTSD through the lense of personal demons.
Problem is no one wants SH to become an action horror, it and Forbidden Siren are scary because most of the time you should run and not fight
Yeah. Like a slightly slower and somewhat reeled in version of Resident Evil 4.
Could even have some interesting set-ups to possible advancements in arsenal. Like a battered AR-16 with the firing mode stuck at semi-auto, with the character thinking (when examining the thing) if there was some way to fix it.
Could also throw a couple of Eternal Darkness sytle curveballs, where you don't even know what to really trust, as if the guy's overall mental health was starting to deteriorate, the more he starts to try fighting his way through the town.

The Silent Hill reviews are some of my favorites. I got Sinners Reward years ago because of your recommendation and to spite all the other horrible Silent Hill comics. I'm really hoping you'll do a compilation of all the anniversary/hundreth episode reviews.
You mention that the first comic's cover has a weird half and half look, half artsy painting, half unfinished sketch... I can actually kinda picture a video games story using that as a premise: An art gallery painting protagonist has to stop their fellow paintings being undone, destroyed and erased from existence before it's too late and one of the bad endings is something like that cover, where the main hero is trying to run away from the erasure but collapses and it overcomes them, reducing them slowly and painfully to nothingness as they let out a quickly hushed scream.

I wonder why Linkara has such a dislike for Hardee's food. I enjoy their biscuits and my mom gets food from there every now and then, with her recently introducing me to their chocolate milkshakes which coincidentally I had the other day along with said biscuits. The only thing I can think of is that the Hardee's where he's been to serve crappy food compared to the one near where I live. Though I do agree with Linkara's dislike of Dr. Pepper as I never did like the taste of it myself.
Also, you should have kept Margaret's origin story in here if only because it's tbe most Silent Hill thing ever to be done in relation to these comics

Not until another company buys Konami. That company hasn’t made any new game entries in years. The last phew games they DID release were pretty universally hated
