so interesting to hear your thoughts on the lineup & i especially appreciate how you brought up the aspect of the consumerist/expensive side of this hobby -- i feel like it isn't talked about enough and hobonichi season is such a dangerous time when it comes to overbuying. my initial plan was to get a cover for my a6 (i currently only have a zipper one that i only use when carrying my book with me) but i felt quite let down by the options this year so i ended up ordering a used 2014 minä perhonen black tambourine cover off of ebay! the thought of using a 2014 cover for 2024 feels so cool for some reason! so at this point i'm only getting a new book for next year and possibly the panda pencil board bc i love the soft colours :-) although as time goes by i'm starting to like the look of the liberty hollyhocks cover so i'm thinking i might check back sometime during the spring to see if i still like it and if it's still available! oh and i 100% agree with you that they should have used the hiroko kubota weeks design on a6 and a5 covers too, i would have grabbed that in a heartbeat :/

I have several hobbies besides planners, and they are all consumer based. Collections mostly, but even my Native American beading is consumer based with buying beads and supplies. I do not sell onwards, since I do mostly gifts. I have every color of DMC embroidery thread for cross stitch, which I have since stopped doing. I will be gifting this to my niece later. Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc are all consumer based. Board gaming, D&D can be consumer based now with all the different 3D prints of figures and paining the figures. I am AuDHD, I collect and been obsessed with planning systems since I saw my first day runner and Filofax at 14 years of age. I was unable to ever buy one until I was in my first attempt at college (ADHD) when the system was part of a training I was supported to go through as a Native American through the office of Indian Education at the university. Since then I was able to get the basic refills to my Franklin (later Franklin Covey) after I dropped out and got a job. Now, I am obsessed with Hobonichi, but in the past it has been Passion Planner and FC systems, and Jibun Techo. I loved the latter, but the two separate books for the vertical weeks and the daily was not something I wished to pack around. Apparently that banana hammer is meant to hold down the smooth weeks to make it easier to lay flat. I am with you on the weeks. I have ordered the Another Night of Falling Sparkler stars. I got the Hon with the bow tie pattern of the cats. Apparently I did not pay attention to the ship date on the English version, so. now I have to wait until after Nov 1 to get all my stuff. I will be ordering the trifold leather cover from One Piece on 1 October if I am lucky, I am a geographer, so it is map that I am interested in. Not too thrilled about it being un-dyed leather. So, if I get it, it will stay at home and be protected daily in its dust bag. I love how leather ages though, but I am not a fan of sun aging, more of the scuff aging.

I'm a knitter, too so I love the yarn balls on the cats cover and I love the green fabric! I also love the Navy fabric of the Bow and Tie and the Tiny Dragons. However, I'm leaning towards the Makino one because I like the classic look and haven't had any of those Botanical ones yet. I also want the A6 HON and am debating which one I like best. I sort of want to get either the HON (A6) or a Weeks, just for a knitting/reading/hobby journal but it's hard to justify the costs and I find I have trouble keeping up with all my planners and am better off with just one dated planner for planning. Oh that sounds so lovely! I would say maybe go for the Weeks with the botanical cover? It’s not as expensive as the A6 but you’ll still have lots of space to write about books and your hobbies 😊 thank you for watching!
Why not get your mother an A5 Hon? Since she uses a moleskin in full size currently. You can always put the back of a Hon into the larger covers (zipper cases). As for the Botantical cover, you can buy the little cream or a tote to protect it in when you carry it outside of the home. Or even the little gift bag as a dust bag cover for it.
Ooh yes she might like one! I think it may be a little heavy for her but I'll see if she might like one for Christmas 😊 and that's such a good idea, having a pouch for the cover! I could also use my medium Delfonics pouch, that fits the Cousin in it!
I love the cousin avec, I gradually (within the first month) fill the yellow or blue cover with collected stickers, which I would do anyway, regardless of the colour of the cover. I have a zippered cover I treated myself to 3 years ago, I fill my avec with so much throughout the 6 months each one is used, and I can always still zip up the cover. This season I may mend the cover, the corners are getting worn from being slid in and out of my work bag for 1,000 or so days.... Because I just buy the Cousin Avec I buy from JetPens, I looked it up once and the shipping was nearly as much as my purchase....
Yes I plan to fill it up with stickers too! But I saw Randi.Plans has covered her Avec with kraft sticker paper and I thought that was GENIUS so I'm also going to do that, then add stickers 😊 I love that you'll be mending your cover, it's so lovely to use things for so long they need to be mended 😊 and yeahhh the shipping from Japan is quite a lot but it does arrive very quickly to the UK!

Ahh yes it’s difficult when you want to use a specific cover I think! Maybe go for the Cousin because they you can still decorate that cover with stickers if you’d like to, and it will fit in your A5 cover!

I wish they didn't have so many cat options at one time because I want them all but don't have a use for that many planners. Maybe you can order with your friend so that you can split the shipping costs?

I'm going to wait until November to get the English HON, so I figure if any of those Weeks are available then, maybe that's my sign! 😂
This was such a great video. I have watched and liked a few of your videos but this one convinced me I needed to subscribe. Much of what you said has not been said by many others (I have watched A LOT of Hobonichi planner videos) and you also said many things that have been my own thoughts too. It’s also nice to be able to subscribe to another UK YTchannel I have not come across many yet. I’m also in London and so that was another connection for me. Also I think you will be good for me to stop me buying everything “because I like it” - I stay within my means but being disabled and unable to get out much, I end up buying nice things that make me happy. A lot of what I have bought are investment pieces I know I will reuse for years to come (except the notebooks). The idea is, if I love my tools, I will use them more. I still have to make sure I don’t buy too much (also like so many) that I overcommit myself and set myself up to fail. I created a spreadsheet of what I want to achieve/do in 2024 and the books I will use and how I will use them (tracking, reflecting, planning,etc) to stay on tracking and reflect so I don’t buy too much overcommit and then give up on everything because it’s too he’s a s too much. I decided to moved to Hobonichi this year as I used a Stalogy for my daily diary/journal last year and although I really liked the paper, as a fountain pen user, it didn’t do many of my inks justice and so since that was a test to see if I wanted to try tomoe river paper, 2024 I am moving over to Hobonichi. I was so happy when they had another have a nice day a6 but I despise grey so I am too scared to risk getting it! Certainly looks more blue grey than anything minty.
Ahh yes I agree, it does look very grey! If it’s any consolation, they had the ‘have a nice day’ last year and i believe the year before, so i think they might bring it back for 2025 just in new colours!

I condidered getting a hon but do they fit in the colorful covers or the ones with designs (not the clear ones but the ones out of fabric) i ordered a fabric cover on etsy but was wondering if the cloth ones would fit on the HON or only the techo. Unfortunately the HON don’t fit 😭 a few people in the comments here have said Hobonichi say they don’t fit, but I guess with the hardcover you don’t really need an extra cover which I guess is the point 🤔 I’ve decided not to go for the HON because I would like the option of being able to use a cover!

There really are a lot of options to choose from this year! I don’t see why you can’t use the clear cover inside another cover! But you can also tuck both the front and back of a techo into one of the Hobonichi cases, so you don’t really need one! And I think that’s a good idea, maybe see how you like Hobonichi this year and you can branch out in coming years 😊 I hope you enjoy it! I’m so so glad I started to use Hobonichi 🥰

I got the botanical A6 hon (can never remember the artists name) but I preordered from the UK because I only wanted the one thing... I think shipping and customs is real expensive this year unfortunately 😅😭
Ohh lovely choice!! Yeah it is expensive for sure 😬 I feel like the prices here vs the prices from Hobonichi plus shipping tend to be very similar, so I decided to order from Japan as I know for sure I’ll be able to get what I want!
Last year my order cost about £30 to ship from Japan, but that included all customs and tax, and the Hobonichi store exclusive items! Also it was shipped with Fed Ex and it took like 6 days to arrive, it was very fast!
T v T sadly, can't afford the shipping fees. I have a cousin at the moment and is my first diary ever, I really love it. But for 2024, I can't spend that much. So had to find other options, which I did and I'm happy. Got a stalogy, but the black gingham Hon is a big temptation...

@@bronteswannick Hi! Actually, tested the paper last night! It's very nice, similar to the tomoe river paper. I tried some caligraphy inks and the fudenosuke brush pens, there's no bleeding and the ghosting is charming. I found it to be slighty less thin but other than that, is a very good replacement!

Also I think you will be good for me to stop me buying everything “because I like it” - I stay within my means but being disabled and unable to get out much, I end up buying nice things that make me happy. A lot of what I have bought are investment pieces I know I will reuse for years to come (except the notebooks). The idea is, if I love my tools, I will use them more. I still have to make sure I don’t buy too much (also like so many) that I overcommit myself and set myself up to fail. I created a spreadsheet of what I want to achieve/do in 2024 and the books I will use and how I will use them (tracking, reflecting, planning,etc) to stay on tracking and reflect so I don’t buy too much overcommit and then give up on everything because it’s too he’s a s too much.
I decided to moved to Hobonichi this year as I used a Stalogy for my daily diary/journal last year and although I really liked the paper, as a fountain pen user, it didn’t do many of my inks justice and so since that was a test to see if I wanted to try tomoe river paper, 2024 I am moving over to Hobonichi.

@@bronteswannick honestly the spreadsheet has been great for me. It also has all my goals on their. I can’t write a lot because of my disability, in the past I would have used a big piece of paper. I was so happy when they had another have a nice day a6 but I despise grey so I am too scared to risk getting it! Certainly looks more blue grey than anything minty.
Ahh yes I agree, it does look very grey! If it’s any consolation, they had the ‘have a nice day’ last year and i believe the year before, so i think they might bring it back for 2025 just in new colours!

hey! thank you so much for the video. i have a question about hobonichi, it's my first time buying one hehe. I condidered getting a hon but do they fit in the colorful covers or the ones with designs (not the clear ones but the ones out of fabric) i ordered a fabric cover on etsy but was wondering if the cloth ones would fit on the HON or only the techo. Thank you so much
Oh that’s so exciting!! Unfortunately the HON don’t fit 😭 a few people in the comments here have said Hobonichi say they don’t fit, but I guess with the hardcover you don’t really need an extra cover which I guess is the point 🤔 I’ve decided not to go for the HON because I would like the option of being able to use a cover!

There really are a lot of options to choose from this year! I don’t see why you can’t use the clear cover inside another cover! But you can also tuck both the front and back of a techo into one of the Hobonichi cases, so you don’t really need one! And I think that’s a good idea, maybe see how you like Hobonichi this year and you can branch out in coming years 😊 I hope you enjoy it! I’m so so glad I started to use Hobonichi 🥰

I got the botanical A6 hon (can never remember the artists name) but I preordered from the UK because I only wanted the one thing... I think shipping and customs is real expensive this year unfortunately 😅😭
Ohh lovely choice!! Yeah it is expensive for sure 😬 I feel like the prices here vs the prices from Hobonichi plus shipping tend to be very similar, so I decided to order from Japan as I know for sure I’ll be able to get what I want!

Last year my order cost about £30 to ship from Japan, but that included all customs and tax, and the Hobonichi store exclusive items! Also it was shipped with Fed Ex and it took like 6 days to arrive, it was very fast!
T v T sadly, can't afford the shipping fees. I have a cousin at the moment and is my first diary ever, I really love it. But for 2024, I can't spend that much. So had to find other options, which I did and I'm happy. Got a stalogy, but the black gingham Hon is a big temptation...

@@bronteswannick Hi! Actually, tested the paper last night! It's very nice, similar to the tomoe river paper. I tried some caligraphy inks and the fudenosuke brush pens, there's no bleeding and the ghosting is charming. I found it to be slighty less thin but other than that, is a very good replacement!

Yes thank you so much for pointing this out! I realised as I was editing that it might not fit! BUT i’ve thought some more and i’ve changed my mind a little on what i want to get, so i’m going to do a bit of an updated video on Friday once the shop opens 😊
