  • The Suzuki V-STROM 1050XT ($20,990 AUD Ride Away) has been an incredible success story for Suzuki Motorcycles and no wonder. It is one of the most reliable, versatile, well priced and competent motorcycles on the planet. The V-STROM 1000 is a popular bike here in OZ thanks to its ability to munch up long 1000km days no problem, dirt or tarmac, and has proved to be one of the toughest motorcycles in the market.
For 2020 the 1050 has been updated with completely new styling, heavily upgraded electronics (making it the most technically advanced Suzuki yet), a revised engine and some ergonomic changes. The result is that the V-STROM 1050XT is even better.
We test the Voyager Pack, a special edition here in OZ, that comes with luggage and costs an extra $2,599 (Was $3,699) AUD as tested.
    Thanks for watching!

Nice review. I’ve put 6000 miles on a black 1050xt and I’m still like a kid in a sweet shop every time I get on it

I love everything about mine other than the usual V Strom garbage they call a windscreen. Every Strom I have had have been the same. Binned mine within 3 days and replaced it with the Givi Airfllow.
Apart from that, everything else is just spot on, absolutely love it.

Great review, always interesting to see how V Strom’s are viewed overseas (I’m in the U.K.), I’ve got the facelift 1000 at the moment and after riding the new 1050 it did seem a bit gutless. It’s lost low to mid power grunt, but has a faster spinning engine over 6000, you have to ring it’s neck to get it moving. Useful updates cruise control (essential in the U.K. speed cams everywhere), LED headlamp👍

I actually have one now. Picked one up from SA with the voyager luggage and 44km on the Odo. Saved a fair bit and got it for $19,999. Plus on road cost $860 for 6 months reg.

I took one for a test ride and agree with all you say, but I did find it very heavy to lift onto the centre stand, as if the stand had been poorly designed, and heavy to push around the garage. The footpegs also were right where I wanted to put my feet down, forcing me to put them outside the pegs where I was on the forefoot. In all, I decided it was too heavy for me.

    • @caroldave4037

Odd I find it easy to do centre stand agree it's heavy bike but what impresses me is it hides it's weight well on road ...it's value for money is its greatest asset cheers from dave

Don't know why you need to travel soo fast off road, i suppose because you've not spent your hard earned on it. Its a road bike , not a dirt bike, enjoy it for what it is. Good review , would you buy one?

Great review. This bike interests me as an upgrade bike one day from my current V-strom 650XT to see more of Australia on paved and well maintained dirt / gravel roads. I love the simplicity of the switchgear compared to the Honda Africa Twin. Gotta admit though that with the luggage pack, heated grips and bash plate, the price starts to get up there a bit.

A lot of riders comment that the 3rd gen. DL 650 that you tested awhile back should have the front end revised to look like the new 1050. Well, if this isn't an ugly beak, I don't know what is. I'm not saying it's not a competent machine, but these chaps say they felt like gouging their eyes out over the front end of 3rd gen 650's. Come on man, maybe my old 1200 GS beak or a Benelli 502, but the newer 650 looks tastefully done. Maybe not the latest and greatest, but my '22 650 Adventure for the price is a blast.

Power is up, but torque is actually down a fraction (plus it's further up the rev range) on the previous engine. How come no one ever mentions that oil is now cooled. Good review.

    • @BikeReviewcomau
      @BikeReviewcomau  3 года назад +1

Hi mate the Aussie bike at least, the torque is up - from 74.4ft-lbs to 77ft-lbs, however as I mention, it is way further up the rev range at 6000rpm compared to 4000, so is less torquey in the middle. Not sure about the oil cooler I'll ask Suzuki! Cheers, Jeff.

It's an awesome bike so much better than the 1000 and that was a good bike. Engine so much better now, no peak 2000rpm now it is smooth torque right through the range.

My not so humble opinion: After having bought three new ‘Stroms since ‘09 (combined over 200 000 kilometers of hard use) I can attest to their low cost of ownership and - in balance - high value. Relative to the new offerings from Kawasaki, Honda, BMW, KTM, Triumph and Yamaha I’d say the ‘Strom is getting long-in-the-tooth. Very long. Still, given Suzuki’s habit of offering bundled “packages” and other incentives, as long as you don’t pay anywhere near the MSRP, it’s still worthy of a look ‘n test ride. I’m still a fan, but . . . come on Suzuki, your challenge isn’t with the model, it’s with the models you don’t produce.

Just picked up a 2020 xt model demo with 44km on the odo, with all the metal panniers etc, for $19,130.00. Quite happy with that even though when it gets to victoria government charges will be added about another $1500.00. Still about $3000.00 cheaper. Happy as.

You can watch any number of silly Poms and Europeans telling us what they think, but coming from an Aussie (even if he is a NS Welshman) it is more comforting. Especially on a blue monday.

I really wish they'd kept developing the engine platform and made a TL1300. The SV1000 was fairly emasculated compared to my '97 TL1000S, and judging by the numbers they haven't reversed that with the Vstroms.

So much valuable information, thank you!
I’m in the market for a new bike and would appreciate your experienced opinion. Mostly for solo city community (70% in Sydney) and 30% two-up weekend touring with the missus.
I currently enjoy riding a V-Strom 650, but it’s a bit under-braked with a passenger and I’d also like a little more grunt and cruise control. I’ve got it down to three bikes that I think would suit my needs. Suzuki V-Strom 1050 XT, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX and the BMW F900XR.
If you could only have one as an only bike, what would be your pick be? Or is there one I’m missing? Cheers!. 🍻

Suzuki engineers have learnt nothing from mounting front shocks upside down. All the crap ends up at the bottom where the seals are and you know what is going to happen.
The oil cooler filter in such a ridiculous position. Beautiful ride but morons, could have been 100% perfect.
