This is the first episode of a small series about musical similarities involving Touhou Project (東方Project), popular songs, video game music and movie soundtracks.
Please enjoy, and see you next time.
Do not worry about the lack of a second episode, there will eventually be one coming up one day...
I also post similarities that I find on my Twitter profile ( / chocopain ) using the hashtag #VGMS.
I do not know most of the artists behind the pictures I stole and featured in my video without their consent (and I apologise, I was young and immature at the time.)

Zun is actually known for spreading hidden (and obvious) references, so some of the themes might be actual intentional nod to other compositions.
I wonder if he meant to quote In the Hall of the Mountain King for Utsuho's theme, it would be VERY fitting.

This so interesting! I actually once got pointed on by my parents that Lullaby of a Deserted Hell sounds a lot like that Simon and Garfunkel song when they heard me play it on the piano. Funny.

4:35 Super Mario 3D World was released on 21st November 2013. Touhou 14 was released on 12th August 2013.

Hello.
This video has become very popular and I am thankful for that. I do not know when I'll start making a followup episode, but I know I'm going to exclusively put things I've discovered myself or thanks to the comment section (that means that if I'm not the first to discover a certain similarity, that would technically not be my problem.) I might not only make episodes on Touhou Project, but also other games.
I have a few things to say:
• First of all, I apologize for not having credited the artists whose drawings appear in this video. I used them without their permission. Since I haven't started making it, I can see myself drawing my own thumbnails before editing the next video, this would be a fresh way to start making actual videos from now on. So, expect that.
• I'm also going to learn how to edit videos more efficiently, I have gotten a few tools that would make my videos more eye-appealing, but I haven't started learning how to use them yet.
• I've learnt a lot of things about music and realized that some of the "similarities" I've put in this video are actually common musical patterns that have nothing worth mentioning. I have a lot of things to check and that requires time.
• Finally, I am not accusing ZUN of plagiarism, any statement the audience comes up with will automatically become their own, not mine. This video was not made to say "who copied who" as some similarities could be anachronistic.
Sorry for the delay, lots of things happened in real life and RUclips is not my main concern.
I am still open for suggestions.

Kind of wish they had the dates of each song listed. It would be interesting to see the gaps in the timeline. Its always amusing when you look at the history of something and see how it may have been influenced from the past. Music, cooking, technology... all keep growing because of past inspirations.

Yet every Touhou Music become iconic them self... most of them somewhat also reminds me with some songs (especially cirno's tomboyish themes) but their instruments actually pretty amazing.

In the topic of Sonic music, Lost World had two seemingly Touhou-based music. "Cublicated" (Hidden World Zone music) has the same but slower tone similar to EoSD's extra stage and "Battle with Zavok" has similarities with Satori's theme.

I would say that the second song sounds more like Remilia's theme.
This is fantastic. So many great melodic similarities, and you gave some cool new songs to look up to.
This gets me wondering which ones were intentional; to know that you'd have weigh the likelihood of Zun knowing about those songs (more likely on the Japanese ones) with what time the songs were released and when his games were released. I like to think a few are coincidence

It actually does sound like "Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon" but slowed down to a certain pace.

A couple I've noticed on my own:
The beginning of "Now, Until the Moment You Die" sounds like a section of N's final battle theme in Pokemon Black and White. It might be in his normal theme, too, but I don't remember for sure.
A particularly interesting one is that the beginning of "Strawberry Crisis" sounds similar to part of Jack Atlus' battle theme from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds! This coincidence never ceases to amuse me.
As a person who knew GD first, I got pretty mad when I realised that a song that I like is secretly someone's theme in Touhou.
For example:
Galaxy Collapse (Heian Alien)
Yatagarasu (Nuclear Fusion)
I was too stupid to realize for a few days after I got into touhou. I was like "huh utsuho's theme and yatagarasu are extremely similar"

Also, surprised at the Satori one. Wasn't able guess that at all. Same for the Wind god girl one.
Assuming Zun got inspired by those reference, I understand he could be inspired by those game, anime or Japanese songs cus its possibly his interest, but how does he know foreign (English) artists songs? Just amazing

How about The Grimoire of Alice from Touhou 05: Mystic Square and Bloody Tears from Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest? Because the former definitely seems to be inspired by the latter.

The most shocking one was definitely cirnos theme. A lot of these were fairly easy to guess, but being a long time Pokémon fan I just never made that connection. Really cool stuff.

I think the best takeaway one can get from this, is that ZUN created the ultimate musical culture melting pot. Where tunes from all around the globe collide to give birth to masterpieces and real bangers, which spread back it's influence to the whole world again.

This always happens, music that is so similar that it's uncanny.
ZUN always does references and take inspiration from a lot of places and he mixes them together, some consciously and some unconciously.
Maybe some people took inspiration from him to do his own things (it depends on the date of course)

"Fordidden codex" from cytus/deemo and... if not obvious, "Nuclear fusion".
Are we allowed to submit similarities withing the Touhou series? Because I've noticed similarities in the opening parts of Strawberry Crisis and Nuclear fusion, as well as Flowering Night and Tank Girl's Dream

Sorry if you've already got a lot of people pointing this out, but 2 of the Souls in the song, "Your Best Nightmare" Sound similar to both Hartmann's Youkai Girl & Bad Apple!! (Touhou 4 ver.), with the Green Soul being Koishi's theme and the Yellow soul being the Stage 4 theme.So do you think you could maybe include that in the next vid?

Angel’s legend from HRTP is a reference to Heart of Fire from the original Castlevania.
Wind God Girl sounds very similar to Crabbucket by Kos.
People have to remember the years each touhou game came out, as I bet a lot of these songs ZUN 'copied' came out after the game they're being compared to

For the song containing DDC and SM3DW, it was SM3DW that made the similarity as DDC was released on August 12 2013, and SM3DW's earliest release date was November 21 2013.

Whenever I blindly listen to Touhou arangements I think Heian Alien arangements are acutaly Castlevania ones. I think there are muhc more of them out there.
The Taa taa taa taa part at around the 10 minute mark is a well known progression called the Andalucian Cadence so Zun isnt necessarily referencing 007 but just using a common musical technique

10:32 Song of the Sun is actually from another Gallician Celtic band called Luar Na Lubre, the original is called "O son do Ar" meaning sound of the air.
As a Gundam fan as well as a fan of Satori, this made me happy.
I wonder if you're taking suggestions or not, but I'd like to share something I found recently. Ringo's theme, Pumpkin of September, has that repeating piano part that is similar to the repeating strings in "Attack on Tarir", soundtrack from Guild Wars 2

When I saw the title, I was expecting this to be a case like Kenji Yamamoto. I'm still not entirely comfortable with it, but ZUN at least seems to have done more to differentiate his music from the inspirations than Yamamoto did.

I may be late as shit but I really think Shinmyoumaru's theme (Kobito of the Shining Needle ~ Little Princess) is similar to Mirror, Mirror, Weiss' song in her RWBY White trailer.
Mafagafo except the white trailer came out quite a few months before Double Dealing Character, which is Shinmyoumaru's first appearance iirc.
One other Satori Maiden similarity. Mt Rubble (Scrapyard theme) from Nuclear Throne.

I'm almost certain that Wild Arm's opening also matches with a different song. I can sing it, but I can't remember what it actually is.
The RedBlue Hall of Fame music's resemblence I can hear, but I'd never have thought of it myself.
I thought Super Mario Funzie Mine would be Into Backdoor (HSiFS) (Stage 6).
The Kira song I matched with Eastern Memory of Forgathering Dream (IaMP) (Credits). The Aki theme works too.
The Zeta Gundam's gotta be Satori Maiden ~ 3rd eye (SA) (Satori Komeiji's theme)
Hikaru Genji I recognised as Shanghai Alice of Meiji 17 (EoSD) (Hong Meiling's Theme) within like 2 seconds
Ouveture I barely hear any resemblence with Chen's theme.
Castlevania reminds me of Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial (EoSD) (Sakuya Izayoi's theme), though I definitely hear Nue's theme strongly now.
With the Bond theme, the moment I saw Aya appear, but before her theme even started, I heard it already, but not before seeing Aya xD

Within the first second of the Immortal, I hear Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's "Kappa" ~ Candid Friend (MoF) (Nitori Kawashiro's theme)
The sonic song I heard Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room (EoSD) (Patchouli Knowledge's theme) the moment the higher synth started
When the cello started in the Mountain King metal version, I heard Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion (SA) (Utsuho Reiuji's theme)
