BF3 still holds up to this day. Release date was Oct 25, 2011 and I could thank BFBC2 for introducing me to the BF series and community. To think I was 21 when this came out and now I’m 32. I wish DICE still kept their magic with 2042.

I must say though - it was BFBC2 that got me on board as a huge fan of Battlefield in general however. Particularly for the multiplayer part! BFBC2 and BF3 were (for me, at least) peak Battlefield and my two favs in the entire series!

Battlefield's minigames are super simple once the base gunplay is coded. My minecraft server has more complex minigames (like tarkov/tarkraft extractions and loot n shoot arcade)
This gave me chills. We did not know what we had. My friend knew what he had so he skipped school. Legendary games that will live on in our memories. When i get alzheimer's i will still remember these games. Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed.
Battlefield 3’s Aftermath DLC was incredible. Not only new maps and weapons, but completely remodelled characters and vehicles. So much love used to go into these game.
BF3 and 4 just had so much content it was unreal. I loved how they dedicated different dlc to different things. Close quarters dlc, naval strike dlc for the naval combat, air superiority. They just had something for everyone. Infantry, vehicle etc
All of the DLCs were great in my opinion, but Armored Kill was my favorite. I really miss the days when Dice put so much effort into Battlefield. Now the series is a fragment of its former self. It would be so sick if they remastered it!
BF3 was one of those games where you knew where you were when it cameout and what you did when you played it. I remember getting this for my PS3 and spending so much time on it until I moved over to the 360. An absolute gem of a game, the sniping was perfect, the vehicle physics were fun, I’d spend so much time strapping a C4 to the 4wheelers and driving straight into people. The gunplay was super snappy and beefy. Visuals never wasted a second of your time. I loved the theme of that game so much, the blue data glitches and the vibrant orange explosions as the backdrop for the menu. This game was the perfect in between era game before the modern style of games and right after the desert storm era of games.
I remember it very clearly. Me and my friend got home from school, we both bought this game and started playing. We had the discussion of how good games will be in 10years. Well now 10 years later I just want to back to bf3 release
BF3 was among the best time i've ever had gaming, the beta itself was an experience like i've never had before. I have no idea how they time and time again failed to recapture it's greatness.
Sometimes I feel like they never really had the sauce, just coincidently and by chance created a couple of magical games and and haven't been able to capture that magic again

Me every time I think of BF4 as well. I didn’t get into the franchise until 4, so that’s my golden child of the franchise; but after playing it I did go back and play 3. Which just felt like 4, only a bit older and a tiny bit clunkier. It absolutely deserves a GOOD, and respectable remaster.

It also helps that bf3 was in development for 3 years and bfbc2 only took about a year to make. Bc2 was made as a quick inbetween game for players to have until bf3 came out. DICE was shocked that bc2 did as well as it did and is where that news article about them years later came out of them saying they have no idea why people like bc2 so much.
Basically BC2 was the next best game at the time, COD4 and it's sequels were all the next best game and had the same graphics so BF3 seemed like a massive upgrade.

Look up Venice Unleashed. Its a BF3 Mod community with all kinds of active servers. If it gets forgotten, you can always launch it and play your BF3 heart out with bots. 1:12
I don't know about others. But I genuinely feel that BF3 had the best maps in the entire series. A lot of those DLC maps were bangers. Would genuinely love to have someone go through in an in-depth analysis of the life cycle of BF3. I remember trying to get all the Coop Achievements with my friend. Was horrid.
It's not just the maps, it's the general feeling, the rawness. In BF4 everything looks shiny and polished. When you play BF3 the guns genuinely look and feel like they've seen some action, but not just that but also the animations, there's just so much care put into simple things like that. But what I think made this game so catching was how simple it was to understand the gameplay and your surroundings. You knew exactly what you need to counter this and that, the weaknesses and strenghts of each class so each had its magic. With every subsequent game the classes became less and less defined, you could take a sniper with C4 etc. Loading the games with features in the end broke them.
The DLC maps were the only decent maps, unfortunately everyone only plays caspian border and metro. The game died within a year of release because of that.

It was definitely ahead of its time in terms of graphics. Also goes to show how implementing all the fancy new graphics tech doesn't necessarily make a game look better. A lot of it comes down to art direction and cohesion and using tricks that are more efficient performance wise that will achieve 90% of the same look as more performance expensive methods.
This is the best Battlefield game of all time. No discussion. The immersion and feeling this game gives you is on a different level. BF4 and BF1 are close second to me but this game was just something else man.

Nearly 7.000 hours in this game and it’s still worth playing. This was childhood, this was the epitome of dice‘s work. E3, gamescom built up hype and it was worth it.
In my opinion, BF3/BF4 set the standard for the franchise and I believe with an updated engine/UI, they could release these titles as remastered in todays industry with no changes other than the aforementioned.

But i still agree with Nick, i'd rather have Dice simply redo BF3-4 (pretty much the same games really) in the updated engine if it means a stable and decent game. Not going to lie thought BF1 and BF2042 both have their own appeal.
the original seasoned DICE team of developers are gone forever, we are transitioning and passing through a dark era to hopefully give birth to more seasoned and passionate developers, the ones that gave us, bad company, BF3, BF4.
Battlefield 3, I was so much happier, so full of hope. It still has some of the best map design, especially for its time. The Paris maps were my favorite, I remember this specific server called Rush to Paris that was just the Paris maps on rush plus Tehran Highway. The DLC maps were also incredible, Close Quarters DLC, Armored Kill, Aftermath and the beautiful maps of the final DLC End Game. Really incredible time. We need more variation in maps again.
I still remember the shock this game gave me when I played the tunnel map during the beta; It was my first experience with BF after having played only COD before back then and it was glorious.
This was the game that introduced me to multi-player, made so many friends and so many hours put into it, to this day mag and bf43 and bf4 still my favorites.
Everything about this game just reminds me of my childhood. As Jack mentioned the whole stealing someone’s dog tag was such a great achievement back in the day but that wasn’t just it, Jihad Buggies strapping C4 to the jeep and yeeting it into enemy tanks, the MAV glitch allowing you to get to spots you weren’t supposed to and snipe unsuspecting opposite team players. So many iconic memories, what a true masterpiece of gaming this game was❤
In the coming years we will stare into the void, remembering our fallen brothers in arms, the ones we fought next to, the ones we couldn't save, the rush of death, the symphony of chaos, & longing achingly...for the Battlefield. _We will never have this again._ o7
Battlefield 3 still feels more realistic to me than 2042. It´s something special about the graphics and textures that is just abuot right. Today i play noshar channels and caspian border in portal mode on 2042 but i really miss firestorm. Hopefully there will be more bf3 maps on 2042 but even with the new textures i would say it looked better before, i do miss the yellow flowers on caspian border since it gives it the bf3 look.
The best battlefield for me. The atmosphere this game has is insane. It also has the best maps. Just classic after classic. Caspian, metro, kharg island, Damavand peak, gran bazaar, firestorm. Noshahr canals. Even the dlc maps were sick. Epicenter! God damn!
The simplicity was key. Gun play was snappy and satisfying. When you were in a vehicle you didnt have 20 people locking onto you every 5 seconds. Squads actually playted together and helped each other. I truly think therre is just way too much going on in 2042 and i know, controversial opinion, but also felt like this in BF4. BF3 was just so good man.
Bf4 was a step forward in some ways and a step backwards in a lot of others, like the removal of suppression screen vaseline is a plus, in game server browser obviously, but a ton of the gimmicky added mechanics in 4 straight up made the game worse. I'm talking counter-knifing, remote controlled mortar, tank Active Protection, a lot of the toxic added support gadgets, ammo/health single packs, I'm sure I'm forgetting some. But it was still a good game and a much better game than 2042...

I cannot believe how spoiled I was back in the very early 2010's. Enjoy BFBC2 for an entire year, then BF3 comes out the next year. An absolute insane amount of incredible videogame content.

suppression, dmg range & accuracy... im having fun with 2042, but seems like i get killed more by ARs and smgs at 300+ than i do by sniper rifles. not many seem to even use snipers, i would guess because you hit them once, they just turn and spray bullets at you EZ PZ
No suppression was dumb, what works instead is what HLL did: actually make the machine gun accurate. Gee it becomes real dangerous when an LMG works like an LMG then doesn't it? I don't need an animation of suppression when I can be cut down any second.
This was my first and favorite Battlefield game back on PS3 after playing the beta. Greatest FPS I've had the joy of playing, everything just felt right and hit all of my boxes in what I loved in FPS games. CoD could never touch this to me, not even today

I didn't play Conquest much because I never had a consistent friend group, so I stuck to TDM on both games, but I just felt that BF3 had something special that wasn't easily replicated. This game feels so different than the new BF. Just look at the difference between the two when explosions are going off around you and the hit marker is tiny,not some big green triple lined hit marker bigger then the sight itself

I honestly miss suppression! It just made the game so immersive! Running through the open felt dangerous, vehicles were terrifying, lmgs had a huge impact in chokes! Everyone hated it, but after not having it, battlefield doesn't feel the same. 😢
Fun frag grenade thing. In 2042 Portal, the BF3 frag is thrown differently than every other grenade in 2042. It is thrown ever so slightly slower but with a higher arch, so it goes roughly just as far as the 2042 grenades but enables that BF3 frag trick.
I wish I could play this game again but I'm banned from most of the servers, back when Discord's overlay was still a new thing I got a false positive ban for it (at least I think that's what it was).
This game is just so incredible. When I think of battlefield it's immediately what I think of. Wish we could get a newer experience with the same feel.

Played it 2 weeks ago and man, except for the UI not really scaling well on higher resolutions everything just works so well in this game. Movement, visuals, weapon selection, maps and sound design are all still amazing. Even BF4 doesn't give me that same feeling like BF3 does. Playing Portal in 2042 is a bit painful because it gives you 5% of what BF3 has to offer but shows that DICE maybe hasn't completely forgotten how to give us the BF3 experience, but just chooses not to.

Bf3 was my introduction to the franchise. A game that makes me wish I were an adult in that era of gaming. My measly Xbox 360 and my imagination were all I needed to enjoy that wonderful game. It’s a shame I now know I will never experience it at 64 players and at its peak performance, but I can definitely say I played it and enjoyed it a lot.

Battlefield 3 was my first BF game. I really can’t forget my first game on Operation Firestorm. It was so damn cool. I really miss that magic of a time, when everything was simpler ;(

I don't know about others. But I genuinely feel that BF3 had the best maps in the entire series. A lot of those DLC maps were bangers. Would genuinely love to have someone go through in an in-depth analysis of the life cycle of BF3. I remember trying to get all the Coop Achievements with my friend. Was horrid.
It's not just the maps, it's the general feeling, the rawness. In BF4 everything looks shiny and polished. When you play BF3 the guns genuinely look and feel like they've seen some action, but not just that but also the animations, there's just so much care put into simple things like that. But what I think made this game so catching was how simple it was to understand the gameplay and your surroundings. You knew exactly what you need to counter this and that, the weaknesses and strenghts of each class so each had its magic. With every subsequent game the classes became less and less defined, you could take a sniper with C4 etc. Loading the games with features in the end broke them.

The DLC maps were the only decent maps, unfortunately everyone only plays caspian border and metro. The game died within a year of release because of that.

The fact that you dont have to go through a fucking website to launch the game... Bf3 has no redeeming qualities. Id take bf2 and bfbc2 over it easily.

BF3 sucked on console though. Maps were too big for 24 players.
It was definitely ahead of its time in terms of graphics. Also goes to show how implementing all the fancy new graphics tech doesn't necessarily make a game look better. A lot of it comes down to art direction and cohesion and using tricks that are more efficient performance wise that will achieve 90% of the same look as more performance expensive methods.
This game will always hold a special place in my heart. Definitely one of the best FPS games/best Battlefields ever!

This is the best Battlefield game of all time. No discussion. The immersion and feeling this game gives you is on a different level. BF4 and BF1 are close second to me but this game was just something else man.

Nearly 7.000 hours in this game and it’s still worth playing. This was childhood, this was the epitome of dice‘s work. E3, gamescom built up hype and it was worth it.
I've played BF3 the most. Oh man the memories, I wouldn't get tired of this game.
In my opinion, BF3/BF4 set the standard for the franchise and I believe with an updated engine/UI, they could release these titles as remastered in todays industry with no changes other than the aforementioned.

The UI of bf4 was Perfect in my opinion. Uncluttered, no BS and you Could completely Customize everything.
@@JustSkram The BF3 latency and hit registration was something too. They were great games, BF3 is the game i built my first computer for and i loved it to bits.
But i still agree with Nick, i'd rather have Dice simply redo BF3-4 (pretty much the same games really) in the updated engine if it means a stable and decent game.
Not going to lie thought BF1 and BF2042 both have their own appeal.
the original seasoned DICE team of developers are gone forever, we are transitioning and passing through a dark era to hopefully give birth to more seasoned and passionate developers, the ones that gave us, bad company, BF3, BF4.
I play this every summer, there's just something that makes this game feel so incredibly nostalgic during this time of the year.

Battlefield 3, I was so much happier, so full of hope. It still has some of the best map design, especially for its time. The Paris maps were my favorite, I remember this specific server called Rush to Paris that was just the Paris maps on rush plus Tehran Highway. The DLC maps were also incredible, Close Quarters DLC, Armored Kill, Aftermath and the beautiful maps of the final DLC End Game. Really incredible time. We need more variation in maps again.
It’s wild that each new season only has one new map.

I still remember the shock this game gave me when I played the tunnel map during the beta; It was my first experience with BF after having played only COD before back then and it was glorious.
This was the game that introduced me to multi-player, made so many friends and so many hours put into it, to this day mag and bf43 and bf4 still my favorites.

Everything about this game just reminds me of my childhood. As Jack mentioned the whole stealing someone’s dog tag was such a great achievement back in the day but that wasn’t just it, Jihad Buggies strapping C4 to the jeep and yeeting it into enemy tanks, the MAV glitch allowing you to get to spots you weren’t supposed to and snipe unsuspecting opposite team players. So many iconic memories, what a true masterpiece of gaming this game was❤

Battlefield 3 still feels more realistic to me than 2042. It´s something special about the graphics and textures that is just abuot right. Today i play noshar channels and caspian border in portal mode on 2042 but i really miss firestorm. Hopefully there will be more bf3 maps on 2042 but even with the new textures i would say it looked better before, i do miss the yellow flowers on caspian border since it gives it the bf3 look.
The best battlefield for me. The atmosphere this game has is insane. It also has the best maps. Just classic after classic. Caspian, metro, kharg island, Damavand peak, gran bazaar, firestorm. Noshahr canals. Even the dlc maps were sick. Epicenter! God damn!

The simplicity was key. Gun play was snappy and satisfying. When you were in a vehicle you didnt have 20 people locking onto you every 5 seconds. Squads actually playted together and helped each other. I truly think therre is just way too much going on in 2042 and i know, controversial opinion, but also felt like this in BF4. BF3 was just so good man.
Lol you got some rose tinted classes thinking squad play was better than it is today. Blue berries have been a thing long before BF3.

Bf4 was a step forward in some ways and a step backwards in a lot of others, like the removal of suppression screen vaseline is a plus, in game server browser obviously, but a ton of the gimmicky added mechanics in 4 straight up made the game worse. I'm talking counter-knifing, remote controlled mortar, tank Active Protection, a lot of the toxic added support gadgets, ammo/health single packs, I'm sure I'm forgetting some. But it was still a good game and a much better game than 2042...

From what I can remember BF3 solders' chatter and voicelines are way better and more immersive than BF4.

I was in the alpha too. The ground was destroyable too. Digging trenches with C4.

Battlefield 3 was such an era. I used to run that with 2 AMD 7970's back when Crossfire/SLI was still a thing. Such good memories.

im having fun with 2042, but seems like i get killed more by ARs and smgs at 300+ than i do by sniper rifles. not many seem to even use snipers, i would guess because you hit them once, they just turn and spray bullets at you EZ PZ

I miss suppression so much. It was a core to the support class as well. And it made gunfights way more interesting! I'm with you!
No suppression was dumb, what works instead is what HLL did: actually make the machine gun accurate. Gee it becomes real dangerous when an LMG works like an LMG then doesn't it? I don't need an animation of suppression when I can be cut down any second.
BFBC2 was the biggest, most rewarding jump in the BF franchise but BF3 was the standing up moment. BF3 is peak BF.
There hasn't been a game where I've had as much fun as in BF3. I will remember it forever... Great memories with even greater friends 💜

This was my first and favorite Battlefield game back on PS3 after playing the beta. Greatest FPS I've had the joy of playing, everything just felt right and hit all of my boxes in what I loved in FPS games. CoD could never touch this to me, not even today

I didn't play Conquest much because I never had a consistent friend group, so I stuck to TDM on both games, but I just felt that BF3 had something special that wasn't easily replicated. This game feels so different than the new BF. Just look at the difference between the two when explosions are going off around you and the hit marker is tiny,not some big green triple lined hit marker bigger then the sight itself

2008-2016 was truly the pinnacle of Battlefield multiplayer video games. A simple ass formula and EA/DICE managed to fu*k it up beyond belief.
I honestly miss suppression! It just made the game so immersive! Running through the open felt dangerous, vehicles were terrifying, lmgs had a huge impact in chokes! Everyone hated it, but after not having it, battlefield doesn't feel the same. 😢
Fun frag grenade thing. In 2042 Portal, the BF3 frag is thrown differently than every other grenade in 2042. It is thrown ever so slightly slower but with a higher arch, so it goes roughly just as far as the 2042 grenades but enables that BF3 frag trick.
I wish I could play this game again but I'm banned from most of the servers, back when Discord's overlay was still a new thing I got a false positive ban for it (at least I think that's what it was).
This game is just so incredible. When I think of battlefield it's immediately what I think of. Wish we could get a newer experience with the same feel.

Just played it today, it so fun. But I wished we played more other than the conquest or team deathmatch game modes.
I remember years back I was playing BF3 and looked at the scoreboard and seen your name, I was high as hell at the time just driving around dodging tank and jet fire and you blew me up in a jet. Even made it in one of your videos you was like wtf is that guy doing lol cool to see you still making BF videos I haven't really watched since back then but gz on 4m subs been putting in that work!
Played it 2 weeks ago and man, except for the UI not really scaling well on higher resolutions everything just works so well in this game. Movement, visuals, weapon selection, maps and sound design are all still amazing. Even BF4 doesn't give me that same feeling like BF3 does. Playing Portal in 2042 is a bit painful because it gives you 5% of what BF3 has to offer but shows that DICE maybe hasn't completely forgotten how to give us the BF3 experience, but just chooses not to.

Bf3 was my introduction to the franchise. A game that makes me wish I were an adult in that era of gaming. My measly Xbox 360 and my imagination were all I needed to enjoy that wonderful game. It’s a shame I now know I will never experience it at 64 players and at its peak performance, but I can definitely say I played it and enjoyed it a lot.
