Used yellow biots for the wing case and peacock hearl for the abdomen also soak the biots in warm water easier to work with crushed them

Thanks for sharing Cheech! I see that you guys have a BWO version - what changes would you make to tie that one? Thanks! 🎣

Does this bug fish well without the legs? I don’t have much wood duck left. Is the wood duck dyed? If it is what color? Thanks

Cheech, been using that "dubbing rope" method for decades :) Suggestion: Dub the noodle twice as long as needed, tapered at both ends; hook the dubbing-whirl on at the mid point of the dubbing noodle, wrap the thread to the tie- off point; then twist up tight to create a tapered dubbing rope. Done this way you can create a tapered, segmented body without having to build up an underbody. The thickness of the dubbed noodle and how tight it is twisted determines the amount of taper and segmentation. I find the best results are had using a fine dubbing like beaver or muskrat underfur with no guard hairs.

I’ve been using it a LONG time too. Another way to make it work... just build the taper into the noodle. It’s always more precise when you build it with thread IMO.

@@FlyFishFood Agreed, a thread underbody is more precise and I use that as a base for quill or foil, for a dubbed body a tapered dubbing rope is fast and convenient. I learned to tie with 3/0 (OK, dating myself here LOL!) so tapering with thread was reasonable. I find that the 8/0 threads just take too many wraps (on the # 12 and up flies I mostly use) to build the taper. Call me lazy :) Hey, what ever works eh! Cheers!

Does this bug fish in the winter at all ?

I like the fly, but my question is why is this tied with a tungsten bead? Doesn't a mayfly wingcase split at the surface? It seems this would be a better pattern to fish unweighted, maybe as the dropper to a dry.

They are all throughout the water column. Current pushes them all around.
