From one of the best debut albums ever ("Today"). This song and band always reminds me of being in Boston from 1985-95. Sad but hopeful at the same time.
Ah the wonders of NYC underground music from the 80's! This is a masterpiece, a wonderful snippet of a time and world, long, passed. Truly this is one of my favorite songs, ever. If you've ever wondered what playing two chords (G-C), drenched in reverb can do, this is it. Beautiful dynamics, wonderful melody, honest lyrics and a heartfelt performance. All wrapped up into one classic tune.Bravo!
They were from Boston, Cambridge to be exact. They had a huge NYC following but were of Boston. When Dean moved to NYC and formed Luna he claimed NYC. But all love, my friend!
I don't wanna stay at your party I don't wanna talk with your friends I don't wanna vote for your president I just wanna be your tugboat captain It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd be happy It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd like to be It's a place I'd be happy
This song was me and the love of my life’s song. It felt so euphoric and I felt nothing but love. This song was a connection with him through all those times we were far apart. I fell in love with him through this song. This song was everything and is still my everything. I did everything with this song, god I love this song.
How basic can beauty be. A few lo-fi chords, some simple but still heartbreaking lyrics and a disturbing video... Indeed, one of the best independent groups ever.
This beautiful song was featured at the end of "Te Prometo Anarquía" ("I Promess You Anarchy"), a wonderful and moving mexican film. The honesty of its lyrics and the poetry of its rhythms make it a perfect song. I could listen to it all day long...
I put this on knowing that I would not like it because I'm a old school classic rock kind of guy. But to my surprise I think it's pretty good and I got here through talking Sopranos Christopher said this was his all-time favorite band
Flying nun is a very slept on label and the whole nz scene. The Aussie punk scene back in the 70’s pretty much trumped most of the things coming out of the west, and the same with the nz “indie” scene....very special stuff came out of that tiny island; Chris Knox is a legend
@@Abegoldhatchcourtly love. It’s a medieval thing. But I’m from Liverpool and Courtney Love lived in the flat above me for a few months in the early 80’s, but that’s an aside. I was living in Athens ( Greece) and so much in love when I would disappear into this ( 1993) despite the fact that I saw them at the Manchester international 4 years earlier as an undergraduate. World is small.
@@nialllambert3194 okay, i get it. I was just kidding and maybe my joke wasn’t funny. You may like her, nothing wrong about that. You’re from Liverpool, there are too many great bands there. I love the La’s… .
The world IS very small. Because I played with the original line up of the La's with Mike Badger. Check out "My girl sits like a reindeer" from the 1986 compilation "Elegance, Charm and Deadly Danger" and "Revolutionary Spirit" the sound of Liverpool 1976 - 1988" both of which you can find on RUclips. In fact, you've set me off. I'm now sitting here with my young daughter playing "Revolutionary Spirit" and my youth has all come flooding back. Find the full length fan video by Indiekid45 of track 36 "Revolutionary Spirit" by the Wild Swans. -quite possibly the greatest single ever. That was produced by Ian Broudie who later formed the Lightning Seeds, and paid for by Pete de Freitas (RiP) of the Bunnymen.
God I miss these guys so very much! Their DNA is ingrained in my soul. Love and peace.
7 years ago lmao
Totally agree. I was there back in the day! Still tops!

Boston Guy in the midwest When I think of Boston during the late 80's and early 90's. I think of the Pixies.
@@markusantonio4866 Two totally different sounds. Both great bands.

Also lead singer is originally from New Zealand :-)
"a wonderful snippet of a time and world long passed" resonates with me oddly.. oh how i wish i could be in that reality even for a day
Every time I hear one of his songs, I am taken to that reality for a brief moment. See, time travel does exist!@@turhakuolla6078
Love the honesty in these lyrics. Perfect.

he doesn't actually love you, its just for show.
It never stops making my heart feel funny. This song.
I'm here because it's one of the soundtrack of the Perks of Being a Wallflower. The kind of music that never goes old❤️
such an out-of-time masterpiece
And very very underated!

thx ❤️
This song...this band...good good stuff.
I put this on youtube every 4 years. Some give me **** for it. I the diff
Thanks freedom. I think it's the BEST art video ever.
Hauntingly beautiful.
Reminds me of Mazzy Star a lot, simple major chords progression with delay and reverb, I like it.
also slowdive
these guys were very influential to early shoegaze groups just like Spacemen 3, Loop and Ride
This song reminds me of Mazzy Star's "Give Me Your Lovin". It has an almost identical chord progression.
@@salmanapon5899my favorite current band!
@kelechi_77 The Velvet Underground is the mother of all those bands. Including this one
.TUGBOAT by Galaxie 500...a 1988 shoegaze/dreampop classic ..guitar & vocals - Dean Wareham
Love the song and everyone who listens to it
If it means anything, I know you'll make it, trust me
Okay ?
Thank you!
Absolutely love this song!

Who said that? I don’t watch sopranos and I love these guys
Holy shit! I didn't know they sang this song till now.
i missing my wasted youth

“Don’t let your youth go to waste”
I didn't realize I wasted it until it was too late....
현재에 갤럭시 500 의 음악을 듣는 사람들의 마음을 잘 대변하는 말이에요
This is such a beauty
feels like the music is telling a very sad story
Love this video
Dedicated to Sterling Morrison guitarist in The Velvet Underground
Right
Exactly, Dean’s hero… .
I want to make a Galaxie 500 band even though I can’t play instruments at all.
Most of their tunes are beginner type chords…solos are little bit harder obviously…this whole tune is two chords
Magnifique 🤞🏻
i love this record
This song was my ringtone for a long time.
Timeless Classic
Please stay at my party. ☹️

and that .. is how you write and deliver a song
Great song. Is this a fan video? Its awesome.
+Terry Barham Nope, it came as a bonus on the CD I bought in the late '90s.
It's the official video
It was part of an old Shimmy Disc promo vhs.
What a f#$ckn great song! Has that Flying Nun sound to it though I know it's not.

The Talking Heads got back together so why can't you? Please, oh please.
Some bands will just never reunite, Oasis, Spacemen 3, the Kinks and Galaxie 500.
