    I truly agree with your review. I’ve always have been a huge fan of Barbie. However, lately they seem to be skimping out on both quality and accessories. I do not like the fact that the fashionistas do not have bendable legs you can’t even sit them down. So, when they’re in their dream house they just stand or lean up against walls. Not cool Mattel.

  • @karldotorg
    @karldotorg 7 лет назад +5

    the topic you discussed on how different races/ethnicities are being left out is so refreshing to hear. It's nice knowing that there are still some people who notice these mistakes and don't let them slide.

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  7 лет назад +2

      +qloseis thanx for saying that. Ppl often dismiss these topics as conspiracy theories or paranoia, especially when they don't have to worry about being underrepresented on a regular basis. We try our best to point it out whenever we notice it.

    • @karldotorg
      @karldotorg 7 лет назад +1

      Broken BarbieTV I know the struggle as a POC. I just wish other people would give equal attention to other ethnicities that exist and not just focus on white people who are represented to be "better than us/ we should try to be like them", and Mattel might have just dug their own grave on not adding the black barbie on the box and I thought Mattel wanted the children who play these to be confident with themselves and be proud of who they are or what they are.

    • @ThatClassic70sGirl
      @ThatClassic70sGirl 5 лет назад

      @@karldotorg I realize this discussion is a year old; but I'm thinking that maybe when these dolls were first released, they knew the yellow top wasn't going to be available everywhere (at first). So they probably just included a few pics on the back to try and pique collectors' interest, as a type of "Coming soon!" advisory.
      I have three of these dolls--two which I'd purchased when they were only being sold as a Kmart exclusive; and one more recently. I am Caucasian, not of ethnic background; but I like to have a certain representative diversity in my doll collection, as I think it makes things more interesting and expands the types and themes of the stories we can create. And of course since then they've released the fair-complected redhead and the orange top featured in another video. Also now they have two "curvies"; a darker-skinned AA, a darker-skinned brunette; Gabrielle Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, plus several more in the "sports" line (soccer, karate, baseball, gymnast, etc.). I don't think all these MtM dolls were released at the same time.
      But the thing that concerns me more (rather than their respective ethnicities) is that Mattel might have a type of "planned obsolescence" in mind, where they have a long-term strategy of making incremental improvements over time (for example with the floppy ankle issue; or debut of MtM Kens) which are designed to maximize their profits at the expense of excessively emptying our wallets.

      +Alaina Gibson I know what you mean, it gets tiring seeing the same old blonde barbie repackaged in a diff outfit and hair style over and over again. The black dolls seem to have more variety in skin tones and hair textures, facial features. Enough so that we can pretend they are all kinds of nationalities like Hispanic, Indian, Mixed and so on.

    I'm so excited about the new articulation , I just purchased the Lea sculpt doll , so glad there's finally a pale skin tone to use as a hybrid body for some of my fashionistas . Shame they don't appear to of realised the ' Christie ' doll yet.

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Dans PlasticDreams I know right? We've been needing that pale body for our Asian dolls, and even the really pale LA Girl Fashionista with the shaved head. I can't stand to see our beautiful fashionistas on them stiff hollow bodies. These new bodies definitely have some weight to them and are sturdy enough to hold poses without their joints getting all flimsy. Thanks for watching!

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад +1

      +Dans PlasticDreams Guess What? We spoke to a manager at Target who confirmed his branch did receive a shipment of the Christie version at one point and sold out. He had no idea when or if more would be in. But at least we know they had them. This was a NorthCarolina store. I think my prediction might be right about seeing more of these dolls in a glammed up version in stores next year. Or maybe even around the holidays?

    I typically use foam to make my MTM look curvier. It does make movement a bit harder but over all it works well. Same with their "back side" I use some craft foam layered just like with the hips, cut to shape, and it looks great! Btw you are my FAVORITE doll channel ever! You have inspired me SOOOO much to start collecting dolls slowly!

    I want Ken dolls like this! And in different skintones! Or just make a non-white Ken doll with decent articulation that DOESN'T have molded hair. I'm going to have to either change the the ethnicity or somehow darken with heavy shading the skin of TWO of my characters because I can't get a Ken doll with darker skin, and they're supposed to be twins. Made to Move Yellow Top Barbie is PERFECT for the sister, but finding a Ken with decent articulation and a skintone to match is quite literally NOT possible. Please, Mattel, give us a Ken with this type of body and some skin diversity. And rooted hair! This molded hair on Ken looks ridiculous!
    I'm impressed and encouraged by all the new body types lately, but I'm hoping to see more options for Ken in the future. (I also hope to someday see the tall, petite, and curvy bodies with these joints, but I don't see that ever happening. Sadly.)

    • @kattriella1331
      @kattriella1331 7 лет назад

      ***** That's what I'm hoping for. I love the new designs, but it feels like we've taken a step back in time to the days when the dolls all had permanently bent elbows that made them look ridiculous. Mattel has been giving us so many cool new things, now if only they'd combine them together!

    I agree. It's not right that Mattel didn't put yellow top on the packaging. Here in Canada it's next to impossible to find dolls that aren't Blonde haired with sucks. I even asked an employee at a toy store if they were getting yellow top, long story short she said Little girls don't want to play with darker skinned dolls, I just can't believe how anyone could say that. But before I go on a huge rant I just want to say great review!

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Dolllover19 Aw, man! I was hoping to hear your huge rant! I like to read long comments. haha. Thanks for sharing this story. It's really unfair how people try to make us think we're crazy when we point out this kind of unequal marketing when it comes to darker dolls. They think we are imagining it! A store clerk actually told you kids don't wanna play with darker dolls? That's insane. Yellow top is the most sought after doll in this series! And so are a lot of other darker toned dolls. But they always make them so hard to get or really expensive. Anyway, thanks for watching and spending time to write this awesome comment. Thumbs up!

    18:03 - Which Ken doll is that near the middle? I mean the one wearing the dark blue striped shirt. Also the one in the flowered shirt at the right side? Are they OOAKs, or off-brands, or....? I haven't seen any quite like that. Thanks!

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад +1

      +ThatClassic70sGirl The one in the middle is Texas A&M Ken. His name is Vraiment (pronounced "Vray-Mon" cuz it's french, haha. He's one of our characters from Broken Barbie Show) and he is a OOAK. I repainted his face to look more like my husband, who does his voice. The other Ken at the end with the floral shirt is also a Texas A&M Ken. I repainted his face as well and gave him a new hairstyle. That's our character named "Ben". They are my favorite male dolls in our collection. I repaint dolls when I get tired of their generic faces. You must be observant to have noticed them.

  • @michiejeane4645
    @michiejeane4645 8 лет назад +1

    I understand how the fashionistas dont have that articulation anymore, bcuz if they were articulated right now, they will be pricy. I think these made to move dolls are only for collectors who needs more articulation. and when it comes to buying fashionistas, the clothing quality is different depending on the doll itself.

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Jam Salva You're right, they would cost more for sure. But that wouldn't stop anyone from buying them if they were packed well and looked worth it/ How about those Barbie style dolls with jointed bodies? They are like $20 a pop, and ppl still buy them. Even though I think they are only ok compared to fashionistas. And I also suspect Made To Moves are meant for serious collectors but they are marketed as play line dolls and Toys R Us is carrying them in small quantities now so... who knows where they are trying to go with this. I hope they continue producing these bodies though, cuz they are very useful for posing more realistically. I get so frustrated trying to make my barbies hold phones up to their faces! And I feel Mattel has no excuse for not articulating the dolls better in the first place, other companies have made even more articulated dolls from the get go. Even Ever After High and Monster Highs have better mobility than barbies! WTH?

    • @avrilfantasyrin
      @avrilfantasyrin 8 лет назад

      I think you would know that some collectors hate the articulation on Barbies, they say it looks ugly and weird, so really, Mattel is trying to please 2 kinds of Collectors from the get go

    • @BrokenDollyTV

      That is definitely something I hear way too often. I hope more locations are able to offer a better selection of jointed ethnich dolls... I used to find tons of dark dolls at a random WalMart in the middle of nowhere ... And of course, they would be on clearance because the "darker dolls don't sell"... Meanwhile in the 3 Walmart branches located in more populated towns closer to our house, they would never have a selection of the cool darker complexions. I don't think that's a coincidence. 🤔

Yeah, $39 is a bit up there for this doll, but at the same time, she's so hard to find... i can't blame anyone for paying a bit more for that one. As for the other 3, you can order those on Target's website for $15 now. And depending on what state you're in you can also order the black one. But for people who aren't in America... Amazon and Ebay seem to be their best bet so far.

      Broken BarbieTV: Yes it is the yellow top one. I didn't want to pay that much for her but, like you said, she's rather hard to come by. I did purchase the other three so when she arrives I'll have the complete set. Do you have a Target near you? Hopefully you'll be able to add her to your collection soon. :) I would have bought her from my nearest Target but my car is in for repairs and truth to tell didn't want to wait. LOL I didn't think the $39 was to awfully much. They also included free shipping.

    I like ur review ,but u don't understand these dolls are being sold for bodies and that is one of the main reasons this doll is sold with out shoes accessories or a decent outfit . They are expected to be sold and rebodied. They are also meant to look like they are practicing yoga to kinda go along with the made to move feel u know ...anyways like how in depth the review is thnx

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Sergio Serrano Hey there. I actually agree with everything you said in your comment.Maybe I didn't really convey that well in my speech. This is why i said i don't really think it's a "good deal" for $15 cuz you're really just paying for the bodies. The concept of the doll is sorta lacking, considering the usual glitz and glam associated with articulated play line barbies. Update: I found more of these at Toys R Us today at the retail price of #15, they had the three versions from the back of the box. I will be showing everyone what I purchased and hope to continue the discussion on these dolls. Maybe more will pop up in stores soon, including the ever elusive dark skinned one? Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Loki Jahnz why does everyone think she is an exclusive? i don't think anyone at mattel has labeled her as such. if she is exclusive, then the other 3 dolls would not appear on her box either. and she is the same price as the others in the line. And one of my viewers wrote Mattel about this doll. The person who responded did not indicate that this doll was exclusive, only that her release date was different from the others... which i think was a total lie. becuz I was able to purchase multiple units of the same doll, months before the "release" date.
      I'm not inclined to give Mattel a pass when it comes to these things, especially without concrete proof. They have a history of shad marketing strategies. i guess it's a matter of opinion. that's just my take on it. anyway, thank you for watching and commenting! ;)

    with other obitsu like bodies u don't get a robot feel I think it has to do with their sanding and where their rotation areas are, they should be closer to the double knee joints and elbow joints similar to obitsu, but for 14.99 amazing job because an obitsu goes for 20-30 dollars with extra hands, no head often and extra neck pieces. so for 14.99 amazing body for a cheap custom. I'd modify them a bit so their arms lay flat and sand those joins sticking out to much.

      +neyleen12 Interesting, i haven't heard that she's exclusive. Maybe exclusive to Target? IDK for sure... but I do know my local Target had her in stock already some weeks ago. Great review. Mattel will probably release the darker doll next year. Personally I prefer them releasing different colored dolls, NOT just the white Barbie. :) After all, this world is very colorful place and the Barbie line should reflect that. I have bought the three Made to Move dolls that are available and, like you, was disappointed that the darker doll wasn't available YET. So don't loose hope, I'm SURE Mattel will release her in 2016. I'd like them to release the Ken line using this type body, how cool would that be? :) And I do believe you are right, Mattel was mainly marketing the body. If they'd given the dolls extras they'd probably retail for more. Having said that, they could have at least given them a yoga mat. :) I am a bit older than you are and have waited a very long time for Mattel to release an articulated Barbie like these. I was quite excited when I found out about them and couldn't wait to add them to my collection. I like how articulated they are. As an artist, they'll come in handy when I want to sketch a female form in different poses. Up until now I've had to rely on an artists mannequin or an action figure. I think, as time goes on, and if Mattel continues with this body type, it might improve and maybe look a little less robotic. If you've ever seen an Obitsu doll or one of the articulated dolls from Japan they look a lot like this in the body and are very popular. I think as time goes on and if Mattel continues with this body type, we'll get used to looking at the joints in the knees and elbows without them being covered up by cloth. I'm just thrilled that they've finally made such a poseable Barbie.

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Nora Dennis Thanks for sharing your thoughts... all very good points. I do suspect they will release her to our general public next year, after all, these dolls are supposed to be 2015 releases so.. THEY BETTER! haha. But it's just disappointing to think they created a doll that they aren't marketing as heavily as the others in the line. The articulation is definitely amazing and since making this review vid, I've grown more accustomed to the body type. Now the joints don't bother me as much, even though they still look like robots, I think they are cute. Their limbs feel more thick and I like the weight to the bodies as well. These posable bodies have revived my love for actually playing with the dolls, not just styling them and posing them on a shelf. I do hope Mattel makes the genius move and uses these body types as the standard articulated bodies moving forward. And like you, I REALLY hope they upgrade our male dolls with MADE TO MOVE joints. That would be awesomeness!

    • @noradennis4361
      @noradennis4361 8 лет назад

      Broken BarbieTV I just received the last doll (Barbie) today in the mail. I'm so thrilled with her and hope they'll release the darker skinned one really, REALLY soon. I'm also going to get extra dolls for the bodies (I like to keep at least one set with the original heads) so I can the dolls. Mattel might not be marketing the heck out of this line to see how they go over, you know? If they get more negative feedback they might decide not to keep this body type, but I think they'll get a lot more positive than negative because there are so many doll aficionados out there that will like (if not love) the poseablity of this line. Oh, and you commented on one of the dolls arms not being close to her body, I had the same problem with two of my dolls, only one arm on each doll (with one it was the right arm, the other the left) would stick out from the body. So it's a flaw in the manufacturing of the doll that I hope they'll work out.

    I love these made to move dolls. I have all four (and a few extras), and I'm on the lookout for the red haired one and Nikki skin tone with blonde hair one. I hope they'll make some for the boys and for barbie's younger sisters and friends. Personally, I wish they should modify the made to move dolls so the the legs can be bend to the chest, because they can't. Also, I have yet to see Native American, Middle Eastern, Indian, and Pacific Islander dolls, for any of the barbie lines. Also, they should make more varieties of biracial dolls. Not just black/white, but also like black/asian for example.

    I'm disappointed in Mattel for the (lack) of marketing of the brown Asha mold. If anything ...I feel like she was the tester. I'd love to see a Nikki/Artsy complexion in the very near future. I saw in IG in a Barbie Style ad, the dark brown Goddess mold Fashionista on a Made to Move body. It must be nice that Mattel can whip up articulation for different skin tones for their ads but not the consumer.

      +afroindia42 WOW, really? Yeah, I wanna see these bodies in diff shades of brown tones too. We need them badly. I think Mattel KNOWS what high demand there is for these MTM dolls in brown tones. But the question is, do they care enough to meet the demand. Let's hope to see more of these in the near future and I really want mattel to make these bodies the new standard for articulation. Especially for males and teen dolls too.

      +Super Saiyan yeah, these bodies should be much easier to work with. Just gotta keep in mind their thighs and hips are a tiny bit bigger than average barbies.

    Why do you think they didn't articulate the waist. I would have appreciated a twist and turn type waist...I mean like a new one they could have invented...not the original twist and turn waist though bc the hips were way too wide.

    I don't know why, but I really like dolls arm can't stay flat with their bodies. And this Teresa is so pretty!!! And I kinda like the "muscular" rotate arm joints. Because I custom mine and she'll wear short sleeves so that's fine unless it's sleeveless. The Asha doll not on the box are a serious problem. If I'm a mom I'll love to have a doll that's match my kid's skin tone. I'm Taiwanese so Lea are too pale, or maybe she's supposed to be. And nice review!!!

      They can though. The clothing gets in the way though. The more cloths you put on your doll, the less flat they lay. We can la our arms flat becuase we are soft. barbies are hard plastic.

    In the UK the black one is included on the back of the box and is easy to find of sure for the US.

      +BarbieGirl Gaming WOW, it really shouldn't surprise me that they weren't marketed as poorly in the UK. But, it's nothing new... we black Americans are kinda used to them leaving us out when it comes to representation by mass media and marketing outlets. LOL. None-the-less, I always point it out when I see it cuz some folks are in denial about these things.

      Yeah, they're slowly poppin up here and there, only at Target so far. Which store is carrying the black one in the UK? I have some other viewers in the UK who wanna get her but don't know where to look. I just found 3 at my local store but had to travel an hour away!

    Oh hey, have you heard of the RUclipsr MyFroggyStuff?
    She is also black, but that's not why I brought her up, she also has a doll show and does doll reviews, tutorials, and customs.
    My daughter and I love watching her vids and I think you could be inspired.

      +Carrie Wright Froggy is an exceptional RUclipsr and crafter. She does have some really great material and I used to watch her Darbie Show with my kids too, seems like almost a year ago. Lately, I haven't been watching alot becuz I've been so busy cultivating my channel and the filming/editing process takes much longer than it seems when the finished product is on the channel. Also, I am making a series of craft videos and trying to do stuff that's difficult to find on youtube or not already done on youtube. So all these projects have been slowing me down from actually WATCHING RUclips! LOL. I'll have to take a weekend play catch up on her channel, one of these days.

    target has the black one on their website site

    • @BrokenDollyTV
      @BrokenDollyTV  8 лет назад

      +Natalie Matthews Yes. Target has the picture of her, as a place holder I believe BUT, Target also claims on their website she is only available in stores. Unless that classification has changed, she's physically unavailable at Target's in the United States. I'm sure Target WILL carry her at some point BUT, when Mattel?
