It's why i stopped buying retros, i'm good with some 1s and 11s. What's the point of having expensive sneakers that you don't use regularly cuz it's not that comfy and rots in a while😩 unless they change the midsole to something that looks the same but doesn't crumble then many would go collecting again
@@nassiglutt6587 retros are built with different products now they won’t crumble. You’re good. It’s the older ones that would do this due to lack of wearing.
nike needs to sell shoe parts like pc and car manufacturers do for example. Say your sole got ruined, you can buy a blank one and paint to the color you need. Now you need to sacrifice one for the other.
if his are from 1989 he shouldn't wear them because they will fall apart as seen in the video and severely destroy the value. if the 2016 pair, yes they can be repaired. watch a few videos on it, it's relatively simple.
you had some issues with aligning sole to the upper, jordan changes the siluethe between evert retro so slightly that you need to do adjustments to make the newer retro donor sole fit perfectly to og vintage upper, but besides that really nice job, I've been following your videos for years now and I've seen a lot of progress great job!
Question. Why didn’t you reuse the old rubber outsoles and just swap the midsole? Now the bottom of them have the Jumpman rather than the Nike swoosh, which typically, most people are against for OG products.
You definitely could but it would probably never get the exact same look or feel and on top of that they would never be worth as much as the original shoes with original soles, probably wouldn’t be too hard to sell if they looked and felt good though.
WRONG! Even this pair after the swap wouldn't have the same feel as the OG midsoles because the polyurethane that's being used with today's pairs is a lot stiffer. And the issue one would have trying to replicate the midsoles would be with the air units...But with time and patience, anything is possible....
@@killtheradio2999 I think it still depends on the area where the shoes are stored. New retros indeed last longer but the PU midsoles AJ3-6 are still very much vulnerable to temperature extremes and humidity. I live in the Philippines where it’s freaking hot and humid year-round, and my never-worn AJ6 UNC from 2018 is already starting to show some cracks and crumbling on the midsole, despite being in an airconditioned room. AJ1’s full-rubber sole and the phylon midsole on AJs 11 onwards are more resistant to crumbling so I focus on getting more of those instead.
That,s why I'm reading these comments. Wonder if its the deglazer he used in the beginning? I was curious about his paint as well. Guess I Gotta do some research.
Amazing transformation! I have to ask is this kind of thing worthwhile? I know nothing about these trainers but they looked totally wrecked. Also what happened to the original sole unit to cause it to disintegrate like that? Just curious.
The Jordan 4 released in 1989. There are people that still have those same sneakers because of their historical value and build quality. You can get re-releases of the same model today and a few other years between now and then but with every release the quality has crept downward in quality. Foam will disintegrate if it isn't exposed to air (like being stored wrapped in plastic in a box like some collectors do)
I got 5 pair of Nike AirMax with different color ways that need repainting on the sole. I cleaned the color off over time. But, I'm not throwing them out.
