@@killtheradio2999 I think it still depends on the area where the shoes are stored. New retros indeed last longer but the PU midsoles AJ3-6 are still very much vulnerable to temperature extremes and humidity. I live in the Philippines where it’s freaking hot and humid year-round, and my never-worn AJ6 UNC from 2018 is already starting to show some cracks and crumbling on the midsole, despite being in an airconditioned room. AJ1’s full-rubber sole and the phylon midsole on AJs 11 onwards are more resistant to crumbling so I focus on getting more of those instead.
Air Jordan only has aj1 soles that will not decompose. Aj11 will not decompose either but the soles will fall off. However, if the soles fall off, they can be fixed with special adhesive.
Imagine paying that much money for shoes just to not wear them bc they will end up looking like this. Ofc I also got shoes I really like and don't want them to wear down but if its that expensive it needs a much better quality and durability than 30$ shoes.
this doesnt happen nearly as fast as it did with 2010 and older jordans due to materials used but yeah use your shoes sporadically and clean them after use to keep them looking crisp for years to come.
Question. Why didn’t you reuse the old rubber outsoles and just swap the midsole? Now the bottom of them have the Jumpman rather than the Nike swoosh, which typically, most people are against for OG products.

Amazing transformation! I have to ask is this kind of thing worthwhile? I know nothing about these trainers but they looked totally wrecked. Also what happened to the original sole unit to cause it to disintegrate like that? Just curious.
The Jordan 4 released in 1989. There are people that still have those same sneakers because of their historical value and build quality. You can get re-releases of the same model today and a few other years between now and then but with every release the quality has crept downward in quality. Foam will disintegrate if it isn't exposed to air (like being stored wrapped in plastic in a box like some collectors do)
I have so much regret I got that one I gave brand new to a friend and He kept them in bad room they die before been use and he trashed them broke my heart
I don't understand some sneaker collectors. You can either wear them and enjoy them, or pay to have them restored every 10 - 15 years by keeping them in the box. The midsole technology used back in that era was terrible for making a viable collector item. Over time it just hardens and disintegrates as you see in the video. Restored items don't carry the same value as original, so it like shooting yourself in the foot and then looking around smiling at everyone. Don't get me wrong, I've got a few Boost collaborations when Reebok and Adidas got together and even some old school pumps like the OG Fury Roads and the OG Fury, but I won't touch retro Nikes for a multitude of reasons like terrible quality control and like you see in the video on top of the fact that they're still being produced. SB's, Dunks, AJ's, AF1's, etc...new colorways and the addition of some pom-poms or a sculpted outsole doesn't make a new shoe. I have 26 pairs of Adidas in my closet.... everything from Stella McCartney's, Marimekko's, Gazelles, Shell Top's, Forums and enough Boost to choke a herd of horses...but I wear every...single ....pair. Fellas, you spent good money on your kicks..wear em.
