As an old guy from England, I can assure you that Air Max have always been associated with gangs and young crims. 95s, Tns, 97s especially when they came out respectively. Although, back in the '90s, AMs were more associated with Happy hardcore, hard trance, rave culture.
In London, Air Max's don’t really scream gang affiliation-everyone wears them here. It’s more about how you dress. Sure, a few people still associate them with that image, but the younger generation prefers a wider variety of trainer/sneaker models. As for the (illegitimate) money makers, they tend to go for luxury designer shoe brands.
Excellent video. However, as somebody living in Amsterdam; that is not a windmill on the back on the airmax 1 special edition for Amsterdam. It is a blue print of the cities canals!
I live just outside of London, and I have seen multiple people in my school rocking any type of air max, usually the 95s, and those people are the types of people who's brothers are drug dealers and so on, so it does kind of make sense, but reacts have seen a massive increase in popularity amongst the roadmen. Great video, which I find very relatable.
It was the new school year for 1988 and a kid had a pair and I've been a diehard Nike Air Max fan ever since. My personal all-time favorite shoe.Putting on a new pair is unlike anything else. You can rock these with anything and wear them all day every day.
Video is great but is missing a few key details. Air Max has been so popular in the UK doesn’t just come from grime culture but it comes from football. The same people who are wearing Adidas originals and going to games in for terrece attire grew up and had kids those kids so Adidas as an old man brand people didn’t really want to wear originals anymore because they associated with old men and around this time ,the 90s, Nike was making a decent splash football and the athlete signed of Nike would wear air maxes to team practices or anything that’s not on the pitch. as well because of how air maxes were built constructed they were a lot better for the grimey weather in the UK and were comfortable enough to walk the streets in and dance in a rave. This take is gonna be very controversial but Liverpool was the city to 1st embrace the am 95 and I feel like the association between crime and 110s comes from the fact the negative stigma people have towards scousers.
@ oh yeah i saw that part- i wrote my dictation about a sneaker culture for my bachelors degree so not only is it fresh in my mind but im finding ways to share my findings, the video was great man always
Very accurate video coming from a Londoner here🫡. The OG Air Max’s are a staple in inner city London / council estates aka “The ends”. Specifically the Air Max 90, 95, 97 and TNs. However, the Air Force 1 is also hugely popular. Nowadays the younger generation (Gen Z and below) are more on the retro Jordans and whatever is trendy.
Can't wait for the Big Bubble Neon 95s later this year (despite lacking the PSI marking on the bubble and the neon not looking close)! Making those my first 95s! Hoping the polyurethane midsole is ok on those for comfort!
as a european the air max was very popular in the late 90/early 2000 for example Classic BWs was soo big in Hardcore Music scene, the 97 were massive, and yes 95 in uk. Yes Tn’s are mostly used by small drug dealers in Italy and ofc all the young wannabe gangsta
@NachoAverageFinds How cool that I can be someone to share information about sneakers with you. That's a moment for me. I appreciate your videos they are by far the most talented in the game. Have a great 2025.
I don't get the appeal of these shoes. Made in China, mediocre to passable quality, cheap plastic and rubber, virtually no natural materials, they change the color of the swoosh and call it a ''special edition'' then jack up the price 3 times, for literally the same thing, its kinda silly. They are toy shoes. Each to their own...but there are so many lesser known brands making sneakers afar superior in terms of quality, materials and build, for the same price a s a pair of Jordans.
Air Max 90 , Air Max 95 , Air Max 97 , Air Max 98 Plus TN , Air Max 97 Plus TN , Air Max 270 Bowfin and Zoom Vomero Roam are the main ones , Adidas , Puma , New Balance and Under Armour are also quite common

Here in London if you see someone with TN Air's don't approach them LOL
Lmaoo
TNs are the go to for the lads here In Australia or the 'eshays' .. ASICS Kayano or ASICS quantum 360 are the other Aussie street shoe

Here in Buenos Aires. Nike Shox's are asociated with young criminals or "pibes chorros" as we call them.
I'd love to do a video about south america sneaker culture haha
Cortez: what up, ese!
TNs: what up, eshé!
Over here in new Zealand one of the most common shoes for the youth & gangs are th Nike Tuned airmaxs

Yessir. I hear they might be a Nike SB drop too
here in italy Nike TN are associated with street gangs
That’s not a wind mill at the back of the Amsterdam AM 1’s, but a map of the Amsterdam canals
as a european the air max was very popular in the late 90/early 2000 for example Classic BWs was soo big in Hardcore Music scene, the 97 were massive, and yes 95 in uk. Yes Tn’s are mostly used by small drug dealers in Italy and ofc all the young wannabe gangsta
Yes gabber culture was huge, seen a lot of air max classic bw's and air max 90's in west Germany and the Netherlands growing up.
Love my 110s bruv
Me too bro
@NachoAverageFinds you wearing my size 🔫
see this is what the shoe community is missing .. history lessons
I do love the design of the 95z, but I've had 2 pairs, and both made my heels bleed 😢
Mom. Nacho dropped ☔. Nacho what do you think about Surrender Dorothy?
Thanks bro! I didn’t know about them until you mentioned them. Just looked them up. They look dope

95s are a thug shoe, would still wear though
