One of my first shows was the Vagrant Across America Tour. The order was the Anniversary, Dashboard Confessional (pre-band), Hot Rod Circuit, Saves the Day. to this day still one of my favorite shows. Saves the Day helped shape my music taste, my guitar playing, my song writing etc. Funny enough, I was introduced to Saves the Day through Max Bemis (in 2000). Through Being Cool changed my life and I connected with it on a level I never had with an artist before.
I jus found out about this album from the PUNK ROCK MBA channel and the host said it’s one of his favorite albums and I jus had to check it out . I love it front to back no skips it’s just great. On repeat for 2 days now
I stole this CD from my older brother in like 2003 and never stopped listening to it. I still have it in my car all these years later. One of the best of all time.
I bought the album based on the cover then realized there are no weak songs on the album which is rare, An iconic record of the era for sure. I got to see them open for H2o when they were promoting this record. They were in their prime then such a great band and such powerful songs.
Their 1st & 2nd album were my soundtracks back when they were came out. Soooooo happy i got introduced to them thru hardcore. What a gems those albums were. Always be a reminder what once was one of the happiest time of my life. It went downhill after that 😅
Chris, I'll never forget screaming into the mic during "Holly Hox" at Bogarts in Cincinnati during the Vagrant America Tour, 2001. Dashboard and Hot Rod Circuit opened (and maybe TGUK? I know they were on the tour at some point.) Still one of the best shows I've ever been to. My future wife was also at the show and remembers the fat, emo kid screaming "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE MR. HOX!" This album and Cant Slow Down are still in our top 10 albums ever. We saw you earlier this summer in Grand Rapids and it brought it all back. Thank you.
I still listen to this album all the fucking time. I bought it back in 2000. Holy Hox Forget Me Nots is still in my guitar practice regimen nearly 20 years later.
Saves The Day from 1997 to 2001 was C R I M I N A L L Y U N D E R R A T E D I just wish they went back to this era. Its crazy, cause the album "Stay what you are" was a bit more of a departure than "Through Being Cool" was but excellent. After that though it seemed like that something happened they kept on changing and changing and I kept buying the albums and getting disappointed. I dunno man. Still everything from that era was wild. That wasn't even stuff I would normally listen to. I was a complete meathead jock back then. LoL not your typical STD fan.
My friends and I would sing this album at the top of our lungs driving to shows in early 2000’s. Epic album and extremely nostalgic. Chilly nights and warmer thighs are all you need in life.
ziggy from the wire which is one of my favorite shows of all time is on the back cover of through being cool which is one of my favorite albums of all time wtffff
such a great album. still singing along every time I put it on in my car. Didn't lose any of its magic. That's really, really rare. I hope they will play a anniversary tour with all the songs from that album. Please come to Europe
This was a very great album. Stay What You Are was an album I wasn't sure at first that eventually grew on me. The band as a whole has been on quite a journey with their sound over the years.
Takes me back to 9th grade. I remember first hearing these guys in some sampler I ordered of a mag. (Can’t recall what mag..maybe a thrasher??) They were on it, Holly Hox was the song and still is my favorite song by them, with The get up kids were on it I believe ( 10 minutes from downtown I think it was) And alkaline trio (I believe with that maybe I’ll catch fire song). Anyways this album and the 4 minute mile still get a lot of playtime from me. Good times!!
Through Being Cool is hands down the most influential pop punk/emo album of all time. Also, cool to know my favourite STD song is the same as Chris' favourite.
@@altpress I agree fully. In all honestly it's the most impactful of my life and my #1 GOAT. The atmosphere, the guitar tone the lyrics all stunned me. One of those special moments when you hear something and its SO fresh your mind can't logically make sense of it (I used to call it Punk Rock Beatles). I remember asking Chris about In Reverie after a show once and his face lit up and told me what an important piece of work it was for him. Never will forget that. Thing is, for some reason there's little to no inside info on the album at all. With Under the Boards and Daybreak we got a documentary, now we have this video for TBC, but I'm so curious about that album so shrouded in mystery really. No anniversary tours etc. Now I'm rambling, but for real... damn thing is close to perfection.
Cj Williams So well said. When Chris came in to the office to shoot this, we were chatting about In Reverie and I told him that it was my favorite of his records and he also lit up quite a bit and that was so awesome. “Tomorrow Too Late” will be the first dance at my wedding and getting to tell him that and seeing that he was genuinely thrilled about it was such a special moment for me. Chris is one of the nicest guys in the world and really down to talk about whatever. It definitely is punk rock Beatles and the guitar work is so complex and pretty it’s unreal. Their new album is so catchy too. “29” is another STD masterpiece track. It’s 21 minutes and better than most other LPs that came out in 2018.
@@bjaanderson Its terrifyingly underrated. I feel like in 03 people were too "Punk Purist" to accept it. It was the BOLDEST album you could have made when stuff like Stay What You Are and bands like Brand New were what made the genre popular to begin with.
This album is classified as emo but I consider it a classic pop punk album as well. I'm so glad to hear Holly Hox is his favorite song, it's so catch and energetic and different. I'm confused as to which part of the song is the chorus.
Mike Parsons don't be offended by the term emo. The Get Up Kids are technically emo. It's been dumbed down to basically make fun of a band or song because it's about love or even a tad gothic. Kids didn't understand what emo was so they did what they do best, made fun. Emo music has a very rich history in Rock, and it's evolved to what people of our generation call pop punk but music is just so different it's hard to classify artists to such meaningless words. When kids started calling it "the scene" the scene just died. It became a fad and then a parody. And what's worse is that the kids stopped learning how to play instruments. It's sad. I really hope rock makes a come back.
Sam Ash rules! Yea, it's like guitar center, on steroids! I go to Sam ash if I want to waste the day away playing on everything, I go to guitar center if I just need strings because it's closer to my house.
I have this cd booklet autographed from 1999. I went to Pitt. Pitt played their last game nov 13 1999 at Pitt stadium and STD played at club laga with snapcase. STD slept in my dorm room and stole my roommates pillows
Yo ure telling me fuckin Ziggy has been on the back of one of my all time favorite records for all these years and I had no clue?!?!? Hahahaha that's so awesome
The last time I saw them was Warped 2014. The only classic song they played was “anywhere with you”. Then they jammed out with some other musicians for the last few minutes. I left

The Anniversary were on this tour too
