    Great location to fly I bet no one bothers you there. 😄

      Every now & then a car passes by, slows down a bit... then comes to a complete stop 100ft down the road... watches for a bit, then drives off :)

      @@CJDavies Awesome. I have a good local spot only had about ten people give me hassle in fiveyears. Most of the hassle was since the Gatwick incident and the media started encouraging demonisation of hobbyists. One guy threatened to smash my drone if I didn't give up my hobby which he insisted should be banned. They have started construction of a compulsory purchase housing estate this month so will lose the spot completely soon.

      @@changeagent228 I feel your pain, one of my favourite & closest flying spots is now a housing development :( The spot in this video is great, but it's over an hour's drive both ways & with petrol prices skyrocketing I really miss having a 'local' spot!

      @@CJDavies Yeah having to drive can be a pain. My spot is only 1km away through an estate with no main roads to cross. Once it's gone my nearest spot will be over 10km away over bypasses and multiple main roads. I can't afford to run a car anymore so it's going to put a crimp on my hobby for sure. I learnt to fly at my current spot so it's sentimental too. Westminster are a bunch of gits, nobody here wants the new estate. We got told the gov has marked us a key growth area and will be quadrupling the population by 2026 to meet immigration influx. 🤯

    The sequence and music at 6:20 is so relaxing and chill. It's nice to see you back on the platform!
    Did the autotune work to a noticeable degree? I t looked a little more stable, but hard to tell.

    • @CJDavies
      @CJDavies  2 года назад

      The default settings in Arduplane are designed for something around this size, so it flew well enough before the autotune & I only noticed a bit less slop on the roll axis after. But with my other much smaller plane, the default settings are waaaaay too aggressive, to the point that stabilised flight didn't even work - I had to cut the defaults in half before I could even run autotune for that one, then it further reduced them another sizeable chunk. 'One size fits most.'

    Waking up to a new CJ vid and its a mini plane?? Today is going to be a grand day! :D
    I wonder if anyone makes weighted cute stickers to add to the tail to help with weight distribution?

      It would certainly look less ugly than the M6 bolt still electrical taped to the tail of my other plane 🙃

    Hi CJ, great flight! Love your cam setup :) How did you get the announcements to work e.g. when finished with Autotune etc? Do they come from Ardupilot?

    • @CJDavies
      @CJDavies  2 года назад

      Thanks! Those announcements are coming from the Yaapu telemetry script on my Taranis. I'm using a R9 MM receiver in the plane, which has a SmartPort telemetry connection to the flight controller. It's very limited compared to proper MAVLink, but it's convenient to have the basic information right there on the Taranis without needing any additional equipment. The Yaapu script is free as well, so it's well worth checking out!

      @@CJDavies Great! I also have a Taranis X9D with an R9 receiver, so that could work, just need to read into how to install this great gadget. Souds a little complicated to me, or is there a vid on how to set it up?

    • @CJDavies
      @CJDavies  2 года назад

      @@mikeb6836 The only complicated part is dealing with 'inverted' vs 'uninverted' SmartPort. By default, the SmartPort connection on FrSky receivers is 'inverted' & you have to 'uninvert' it for the flight controller to be able to talk to it. With F3 & F7 based flight controllers you can just connect the wire & tell the flight controller to invert the signal. However F4 based flight controllers can't do this. The R9 MM receiver I'm using comes with solder pads for both inverted & uninverted SmartPort, while for other receivers it is usually able to access the uninverted signal by soldering to the correct spot inside the receiver - though this is often a veeeery small contact!

    Some say you should keep autotune on after the 'finished' message for at least 10seconds after it finishes, did you ever notice difference with that?

    • @CJDavies
      @CJDavies  2 года назад

      If I remember correctly, autotune on Plane saves the updated PIDs every 10 seconds. I guess if the 'finished' message doesn't trigger an immediate save, you could potentially lose up to 10 seconds of autotuning if you switch it off straight away? That final 10 seconds shouldn't make much difference though, so it wouldn't be like with Copter where if you land without autotune still enabled it doesn't overwrite the original PIDs with the new ones.
