    Hello everyone! I'm working on a few videos about generative music, and those require more work! So thought it would be a good idea to share this simple trick :) All the best!

      Nice one. Keep it up! This trick seems reminiscent of Jeremy at RMR suggesting separation of the triggers for rhythm and melody.

      Great stuff! I always learn something here... btw: of all people doing modular on yt i find you have a quite distinctive sound. Also: I am really looking forward for your module in collaboration with Addac, the Random Bezier Waves. It almost seems to me like "monontrail in a box", some very melodic sounding semi-random modulation- which i am in pursuit of like forever...

    there is a very common trick to gate a signal to an external sequencer. Its sometimes called "Trance gate" And it makes super cool patterns and stuff.
    Especially if you combine it with filters and stuff

    a few minutes into this video and I finally understood how to use envelopes to open filters.. after just now experimenting with that I am also testing envelopes that control pitch.. envelopes are the way.. thanks Professor for making this video you are a humanitarian..

    Envelope to filter, oscillator timbre, and amp, is the strongest reaction. For synthesis, things in parallel are the punch. Separate envelopes, to the filter and amp, is only as good as the amp envelope is open. Of course the filter is always the loose nut.

      Thank you! And agree, but that depends a bit on the time I have. Mostly the patches actually have to be made and recorded with illustrations and script included in about 15 min. Adding other elements greatly adds to the time :)

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  4 месяца назад +1

      Haha, no, each patch example to record! So that's often 15-20 patches in a video is about 5 hours. Then script for other parts, audio and voice editing, animation, video editing etc. In total a video costs me about 3 to 5 work days :)

    Do you need a filter with with multiple fm inputs to do this or is there a way to combine/sum then envelopes into one fm input on a filter? How does that work in modular?

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi there! If a filter only has 1 CV input, or only 1 input with attenuator you can use a CV mixer to combine signals. Most mixers in modular land can mix both audio and control voltages, but some are specifically designed for audio only.

    • @neonblack211
      @neonblack211 4 месяца назад

      @@MonotrailTechTalk thanks, can you give me an example of a utility module you would most likely use to do that? I have a four vca module that can send the 4 signals through mixed but ive never thought about using it to send different cv multiple trigger sources to the same input, and I’m guessing it’s not the ideal utility for that application?

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  4 месяца назад +2

      Quad VCAs are great to mix and control modulation depth! Once you're familiar with how awesome it is to mix CV signals, you'll start wondering how it would be control that mix with things like LFOs or envelopes, and a summing VCA can do that. A simple option are modules like the Intellijel quadratt, or my favorite the Happy Nerding 3xMIA. I did a video about utilities with the last one in case you haven't seen that. It's a bit older, but still useful: ruclips.net/video/MYtLmrVx4MY/видео.html

      @@MonotrailTechTalk excellent, thanks I will check that out, definitely need a module for offset and summing/mixing, to take weight off the vca’s I think, thanks again for your time

    For the first patch idea - using 2 envelopes to modulate the filter - are you using a mixer before going into the filter?

    • @monotronfan1
      @monotronfan1 4 месяца назад +1

      You could use a mixer but some filters have multiple voltage control cutoff inputs, many doepfers do

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes! A CV mixer is your friend if your filter only has a single CV input :)
