I hope that they reference that it’s Keanu voicing Shadow in the movie at some point. You can’t have Sonic practically quoting Keanu as part of his character arc/development in the first movie and NOT have him pick up on that in this one. EDIT 8/30: Should also be noted that Jim Carey coming back into the limelight and doing a threequel is absolutely unheard of. He’s made it a personal rule to only ever come back for one sequel if at all (Ace Ventura being the big example of why he made it a rule. He doesn’t want to do sequels that are just cash-grabs and redoing what the original movie did, and Ace Ventura 2 was just that. He didn’t even show up in Evan Almighty despite that being a sequel. Conversely, he’s said in interviews that the Sonic movies feel like they’ve been progressing, building off of the first one), and his role as Eggman in Sonic 2 was meant to be his last appearance in the series, thus the ending they gave him (his idea) even if it was left a little open ended with Stone’s last appearance. His grandkids are that big of Sonic fans that I bet they had some influence over him coming back and also playing Gerald, but I imagine having a really good script to work with also would help nudge him back in front of the cameras and convince him that this isn’t another rehash movie.
Those of you that think the Chao dolls appearing rule out the possibility of them ever appearing in the movies, remember this. Keanu appeared on Tom and Maddie's TV screen, and he now voices Shadow. So the dolls could literally be foreshadowing. In fact, it could be foreshadowing something in the fourth movie (if the movies keep going after Sonic 3).
I have a small theory/headcannon that Earth started to accept the existence of aliens (or whatever they're calling people of mobius in the film universe) and grew to know more about them after the events of the knuckle show. And someone visited Earth, probably because of Sonic, similar to tails, but had a choa with them and met people who thought of the idea for choa garden cafe leaving the door open for choas to still be real or appear in the films.

Hi guys I just watch the trailer for the new Sonic the hedgehog 3 movie and all I can say is OMG that was freaking awesome I can't wait to watch it in the cinema I hope you guys will too.
When I saw Eggman’s belly I thought he was pregnant 🫃, I mean look at him, He got very fat he doesn't exercise. No offense. I'm glad they released the trailer today. I’m so excited 😆
As hype as I am for this movie, I’m also a little confused about the end of the trailer. My dad called me about the trailer altogether earlier today, but when we got to when Eggman met Gerald, he thought they were father and son because Eggman called Gerald Papa, and that kinda threw me off. Because in the original canon, Gerald is Eggman’s grandfather, so my mind is thinking that part at the end is kinda vague and off putting.
I’ve called my dad’s dad pop pop my whole life. That’s not the concern. It’s whether Gerald is Eggman’s father or grandfather in the movie universe. And now I’m questioning whether Eggman called Gerald Papa or Pop pop.
I want an episode of ask the sonic heroes where sonic shadow and silver talked about how basically Silver in episode 8 literally and unintentionally predicted Keanu Reeves as shadow the hedgehog
