A buyer once made me a lowball offer and said last sale was this and it was like a month ago. Without checking I messaged him back and said no the last sale of the card was mine yesterday for 4x. He didn’t know that I had two of those cards and sold the same one yesterday for a lot more. Then shyly he was like oooh cool you had two of these! Later ended up just giving him a deal and later he still complained about my shipping. Some ppl are just like that
Interestingly enough I had a dealer at the same show try to convince to buy a card for 500 cash and gave me this whole story of how he doesn’t like doing eBay because he’s too lazy. Mentioned recent comps were around 800 then kinda double talked and admitted the market on said player had come down. Actual comps on exact card are around 370, so good advice to do your own research. Whether it’s unintentional or malicious, you are the only one who is going to look out for yourself.
Nice vlog JT. Highly enjoying these videos. In regards to the dealer being $400 over on the purple CJ, I would have told him the correct price it sold for, after double checking when he told you it sold for $800. Assuming he didn't understand the best offer feature, his reaction to that news might have made his intentions more clear. I've done that dance before with dealers at shows, most don't know and it's an accident or oversight on their part but of course there are also some that do and look to grift.
That would've been a good idea, Ed. I truly believe it was ignorance based on the rest of the conversation, but it's kinda sad if it was an attempt grift.
@@jcbuckeye There is a subsection of dealers who set up at shows (mostly smaller shows like mall ones) who don't do nothing with eBay and only sell in person. Most of these dealers are older and are old school. I've found from my experience that most of them either don't like using comps on eBay or don't understand the actual sold price if the best offer option is accepted.
@@WeskerGriff no way a card dealer don't know how eBay comps work. The biggest tool for pricing your inventory. If they say otherwise they are lying. All of them are shady. The whole "hobby" is shady honestly. Even if there is a decent one every now and again they won't survive
They are all like that. I had a guy value a josh allen donruss blue press proof at 180. So I got together a comparable package of cards. He wouldn't budge and i had 1 card that did comp at 150 but i added another gold crunch time/10 cant remember who it was. Most when i showed them comps they still wouldn't budge. That tells me that they plan on getting someone else on them
I'm sorry to hear that your experience was bad. There are good dealers out there who will work with you. Unfortunately, there are some bad apples though.
If a dealer wants 100 for 50 Dollar card, it just tells me he isn't doing biz with me. Don't be afraid to tell other collectors there and maybe he will get the idea to be fair (but I doubt that). he knows what he is doing:(

I was at a show a few months ago guy had a psa 10 rookie card i liked. He said comps were all at 150 so he'd cut me a deal at $120. I almost jumped on it but decided to look up comps first... they were $70-$75
Nice video :) what do you think about A. Richardson downtown? I would like to buy one but I don’t know if I should wait for the draft and maybe prices drop because new rookie QBs?
I don't know if there will necessarily be a good time to buy one. Maybe after Optic releases, assuming he has another Downtown in that, because there should in theory be a higher supply on the market.
Appreciate the kind words. Originally, I assumed it was a blatant lie. Upon looking into it further, I'm glad I could see where he was coming from. I think it's also important for me to remember that not everyone is as involved with sports cards as I am and thus, things that I might consider common knowledge may not be all that common. That's not meant in a boastful way, rather to highlight the differences in experience. Thank you for watching
This is why I don’t buy cards from dealers. Pain in the butt, I buy boxes rip them and sell them and any cards that may represent a championship year of my fav team, I keep, otherwise, I don’t want them
I really think you should be telling people out right that you're coming from a seller perspective, not a collector or fan.. and thats why you dont take risks, and your want to buy way below comps.. Resellers at shows are people I refuse to sell too... Period, I can smell your cheap pockets from a mile away. I didnt even hear you even make an offer on any cards...
I'm going to guess you didn't watch the full video, I make offers on several cards and ended up buying everything I made an offer on. In the first minute of the video, I state that I'm trying to restock from the previous show where I was set up and sold through most of what I had. I'm not looking to make offers "well below comps", but I'm also not trying to pay $800 on a card that I could've gone out on eBay and bought for $200 less without making an offer.

Thanks for checking out the video!
I thought the only thing that mall was good for was skating 😆
Lol
The lot with the Pujols was a nice group of cards. You are so right about veteran autos. Definitely great bargains on those. Wise words as well
Thanks!
I really like your analysis and thought process behind each deal. Nice job on the voice over work. Subbed!
Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for doing these vlogs. Really well done and informative. Keep up the good work on these. Look forward to the next.

I'm sure it was not intentional on the dealer's part, but a good story that goes with the point of the Stroud segment for sure. Have fun at the show!

Awesome video JT. I'm in north eastern Ohio and wish there was a card show close to me.
There are some good ones that I've heard of around the Cleveland area as well as Canton. Not sure how far those would be from you.
Great video JT! Really like the commentary mixed in with the live audio from the show. That Bryce Harper logoman is a sick card.
Appreciate it, my friend!
TJ, Sounds like a great show at Eastgate!
Appreciate it, Rick, but my name is JT lol

Yea , that guy probably really thought the CJ purple was sold for 800. I love how you are putting all this vital information out there.
I also liked how you pointed that out. That he may not have known that the line through the price doesn’t mean sold price

Thanks!
Love the show vlogs man! Glad you were able to grab that Pujols Sapphire

Great insight!
Thanks!
That guy with those Strouds has nice cards but he's always way over comps one everything
Yeah, it's unfortunate. I'd love to give a fair offer on some of those cards but don't even think I'd be able to get a foot in the door.
I agree the quality of the patch matters more than the out of number. Because most patch cards are different it could be said they are all 1/1.
That's a good way to look at it!

To each their own. I don't think this particular interaction is a reflection of all dealers, but I can see where you're coming from.
That's a fast way to turn 800 into 80....if you are lucky
Veteran and even HOF autos are super cheap imo.
