I wouldn't say that the second con is a problem for me. I am a bit introverted myself so I don't mind 😅

Really! An 8 month winter at -30 isn’t a con? Living in pure darkness for 6 months of the year is by far the biggest downside to living here. And the lack of resources. Last year we couldn’t get sugar for months. The year before it was produce. A few years ago there was a meat shortage. We have a housing shortage so good luck finding a place to live and if you do it’s going to be hella expensive. Tell the truth. Don’t just promote a place that is remote and hard to get to. People will end up coming a long way to be very disappointed.

Is it common or even possible for relatives who live in other provinces to send up "care packages" to family members living up north?

No not really. Minimum wage jobs are all full up by a flood of recent immigrants. Government jobs are becoming quite competitive but if you have a related degree and work experience, might be possible.

There are no resources. Say goodbye to shopping, restaurants, night life. This is an amazing place to live if you love winter sports. If you like to winter camp, ski, and fat bike in -30 it’s a great place to live. Otherwise, you will be miserable through 8 months of darkness and cold. Our winters are no joke. These immigrants who come from sunny countries don’t know what they’re in for. You’re talking about ultimate isolation. Good luck! :)
