Thanks for this. Got a second hand laptop from a pawn shop for a super cheap price because it had a bios password block. Probably saved a good deal of money just because the pawn shop people didn't know how to get around it and didn't think to search online.

I somehow spaced the admin bios pw and was about to try and short the NV that the bios lives on. Mike.... (rant incoming). As someone who regularly browses RUclips for technology content I am constantly barraged by different tech channels that I normally don't frequent. Some laptops like my hp probook just lock bios after invalid password attemps without any message displayed. Following this video I locked my bios by myself and now will need to bring the laptop to service

you can try removing the CMOS battery to reset the CMOS and passwords

If it doesn't generate a code after the 3 attemps and says "authentication failed system locked" what then?
not sure, not seen that, maybe ask the software creators and see if they have seen that message and what to do about it
Hi, I'm trying to reset the BIOS password on a HP Probook 5320m. After powering on the device and attempting to enter in the password incorrectly 3 times, on the third try it goes to a screen containing an on screen keyboard, when i hit escape to exit this screen it displays the message: "Authentication Failed, System Locked, Press the power button to restart the system."(Each message is on a different line) and return no error code, this laptop is from around 2010 and im hoping to use it as a very basic and not very powerfull linux server. Upon completion of the installation of the different linux distro (i've tried multiple) and rebooting the system it returns the error "non system disk or disk error" i've tried multiple hard drives including the one i belive to be original to the system and nothing changes, some articles that ive read online suggested making sure the boot order is correct in the bios but i can only choose a boot device when the computer starts and not get into the bios because it's locked.
I will be trying bootable USB system repair solutions, If you see this message and have any advice i would greatly appreciate it and if you don't end up seeing this message i hope you know how usefull your video is even though it didn't resolve my issue it may help me in future situations.

I have 2016 Omen pc, even after giving invalid key three time, it asked for spareKey(which I don't have) no code was provided. I powered off the pc and it turned on in normal manner so back to square one. I wanted to turn on virtualization in bios

@@mikesunboxing I have. They're not very helpful either. One said to get bitkocker recovery key from Microsoft, it didn't work. Another said to contact my IT team, as if I didn't know that. They don't have the power-on-password either. They will contact the vendor who at this point are my last hope. If they don't come through, it seems changing the motherboard or BIOS chip is my only alternative. Apparently the CMOS battery restart option doesn't work on this pc

Select Main, and then select Reset Security to Factory Defaults.

I created an admin password and then generated password from serial number on the website. The generated password didn't work at all.

You could erase the data in the CMOS chip (including the password) and reset the machine to its factory settings by removing the CMOS battery and putting it back in.
that doesn't work for a lot of boards as the password is in a EPROM so discharging doesn't effect it
True but if it has a power on password this info is useless. The CMOS chip you refer to is actually the BIOS chip. Disconnecting the CMOS battery will only cause the BIOS to lose clock settings, boot drive sequence etc. you actually have to manually remove the power on password so say you bought a laptop with a BIOS password. You can remove that using the method in the video. If you have a power on password, you cannot even access the BIOS or anything as you are required to enter the password at power on, hence the name.

I bought a old secondhand computer 💻 which has a bios password, when I do this it shows no code, also a virtual keyboard opens
not sure what to suggest there, this is really focused around the model in the video, maybe try the support pages for your model of laptop and see where that goes

@@mikesunboxing Yes tried it a couple of times just get a locked message no code. I think I can bypass the boot menu and reinstall a new OS anyway so going to try that then panic if I brick it.

I tried this on my hp probook g8 240. Unfortunately it didn't work. My bios fw just asks me to turn off.
I can actually still get into Windows. Is it possible for me to download the bios fw you have to solve this problem?
Or is there another way which doesn't involve soldering?
yes there is a windows based bios update, it should be on the HP support site for that laptop

try the password reset and then run some antimalware and virus scans on it to be sure
