In addition to the dancing and costuming, I love the close harmony chorus that comes in from nowhere as they continue to dance. We don’t really remember Danny Kaye as a dancer, more as a comic actor, but he’s up there with the best, elevated here, it course, by Vera-Ellen’s superlative dancing in her perfect pink dress.

This is a fabulous dance routine! I’m watching this on youtube 12/ 2022. It’s magical and elegant. Danny Kaye is gentle, the perfect lead,a gifted comedian, and all around great talent! Vera-Ellen, I’ll have to google her. She is so graceful, I keep studying her moves. Love the layers of chiffon and moment of the dress and Danny’s super snazzy grey shoes and socks. Who did the choreography for this number? The stars combine so many fantastic dance moves. Love the scenery, using the pole and hand glider for props. Brilliant!! Thank you for posting!! 🌹

Vera Ellen at this time had what would become a serious eating disorder. She was so thin that the costume department had to redesign all her costumes to cover her neck and arms. Watch the film and she's covered almost all the time - except for her legs. She was wonderful, but this was a problem. I love the way Danny Kaye is keeping up with her here! He wasn't really a dancer but he could move!!

    • @MinnesotaLG

Vera Ellen being anorexic has never been proven, and there are multiple sources out there that show her neck within a year before and a year after White Christmas came out in 1954, showing her neck to be perfectly fine, and not having been rapidly aged by anorexia. A close friend of Vera Ellen, Bill Dennington, who knew her for 20 years stated that he had seen her neck many times and it was lovely, and that most of her life she had worn something around her neck, it was her “trademark”. He had also stated that her neck was similar to that of Audrey Hepburns, he had even taken photos of Vera in the 60s and 70s and those also showed her neck being in a fine shape. A person with the level of anorexia that people believed Vera had would have quite low energy and would not be able to perform to the level that she did, she was a dancer and always was a dancer even up until her death at 61, she was also an avid swimmer. She even taught her niece, Ileana, how to swim. This niece also stated that she had no such disorder, and had always maintained her slim figure through being active with dance and swim.

      They look good together.
